Hmmm mine was a slightly *ahem* "bespoke" fitting as the tabs had been removed so I'm not sure what the correct way of doing it would be mate sorry. I had to remove the ashtray and the lighter ( I took the light feed from the lighter) for the wiring anyway so I would say yes you need to remove them. Good luck with it if you need any other advice give us a shout and I'll do my best to point you in the right direction :)

What's everyone's favorite brand of hand tools?

Teng - had most of mine twenty odd years and only broken one item and that was down to misuse. Only heard good things about Halfords Pro range too so well worth a look. -

So this thread is 2 1/2 years old, without trawling back through can I just ask if any of the items suggested have ever come to fruition? -
I've was getting quotes of around £1300 - £1500 for a full retrim including doorcards so £700 sounds like a bargain. One thing to bear in mind though is there's leather and there's leather. Some of the hides I was looking at were just under £400 each.

The bit that's bolted to the doors fine and the actual bit the glass is fixed to is solid, it's the plastic housing that's loose and rattling. It still folds in and out fine but when it's out its loose. Gonna have to take it off and have a look at the weekend I think. Thanks for your replies gents :)

Just got my car out the garage, unfolded the mirror and the housing is all loose - is it like likely to be broken or is there something internally I can tighten up? The actual arm seems fine it's just the housing thats rattling...

Yes good man Ron - you know it makes sense :)

I'm with Kev - what do you mean by "again" Portent?

This sounds just like the Liftmaster one I'm looking at. Was reading a thread on E38 by someone who's in the jack manufacturing industry and said all the cheap jacks are made in the same factory in China so whether you have a Halfords, Clarke, Liftmaster or whatever they're pretty much all the same.
-
Yeah have the hole.
-
Been looking at the cheaper SGS ones and was pretty impressed with the reviews but they're the same as the Halfords low entry ones which don't quite go under my car. The liftmaster one I'm looking at is 10mm lower so should go under fine. Been doing a bit of reading up on them and as with most internet reviews, for every good one there's a bad one... :D

Does yours have the LEDs and sockets with it Carrots? Will probably never use either but just thought they'd be handy... Are you happy with it?
-
Haha no problem mate. Probably dreamt it
-
No don't have one at all mate

How effective are the boot poppers? Is it enough to lift the tailgate? I'm just about to fit a solenoid and was thinking about one of these. Is the hole already on the tailgate or does it need drilling? Sorry for all the questions ;)

Was that not the OEM oil/volt gauges Wesley?

My trusty Halfords trolley jack has finally given up the ghost - I've only had it 32 years! So I'm on the look out for another budget low entry jack. Don't use them that often so not after anything too amazing. This is the one I'm looking at http://www.lftauto.co.uk/epages/BT3814.mobile/?ObjectPath=/Shops/BT3814/Products/004&Locale=en_GB Anyone any experience of these?

Hahaha obviously a figure of my imagination then

Don't use T-Cut!!! Try Meg's Plastic-X or toothpaste but try it in a small inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn't marr the plastic

You should be able to get that superglue off with nail varnish remover. Try it on a small inconspicuous part first to make sure it doesn't attack the paint.
