hard to know who to believe in these situations...

a nice wee purchase, always liked these too, they did a 5 cylinder 2.5 didn't they as well i think
-
yeh TSR aren't the cheapest, but you get what you pay for i guess, sure it'll be worth it
-
hey that's where that one went, was seriously tempted by it, you get it of pheads or ebay in the end.
nice understated approach to turboing a vr too :)
-
that my friend is a typical saab owner comment :D
-
you'll probably have to buy a complete second hand TB, they come up on here and ebay all the time, the 1.8 TB spring will do you just fine too
congrats on purchase too :D

i have a 1998 merc 250td automatic, 150pony's/ 200+lb.ft but its a heavy car so can feel sluggish when trying to get somewhere quickly, the turbo also generates some smoke when it gets kicked down but that's normal, besides that has done me proud for last few years and like Jim i've found there's a healthy supply chain for cheap servicing and bits, boot takes anything, had four boards, 3 buckets, towells and wetsuits as well as 3 guys all fitted nicely on sunday :D
am actually intending to change soon, looking at a4's mostly, but the 2.0T A3 'sportback' has got me thinking
-
I can't be the only one out there who thinks this when they see the new Mk6 Golf advert......haha i like that :D
-
they're called elcometer's, check out ebay link below for better value ones, i have one like it that works just fine - basically uses a magnet and a resistance guage
-
never seen one of then either
my monies on a bodged 'fix' at some point
-
use a dremel type thing with a flexi attachment
i have the cheapo argos version, cost me £20/£30 but has done me proud for about 5 years now, the bits from argos aren't the best, the bits from bandq are harder wearing
-
yeh there was a thread started about this a few weeks ago, stunning car that's been on PH for about five weeks now, he's just dropped price by £300.....
will still take a buyer in a thouand to take it for that price imo
-
a fair bit am afraid, £120+
some on ebay at mo http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Samco-blue-water- ... 62004r4540

yep as DW says ABF better again, a good idea to change tappets etc but not absolutely necessary
don't get into habit of assuming cam at 10bhp plus chip at 10bhp = 20bhp... unfortunately it doesn't work like that! more important to make sure your motor is sweet - easy points
opinion split on highflow filters versus standard, i like them others swear by standard - can't go wrong with k&n imo tho
i'm not sure about those powerchip claims, i personally wouldn't bother
-
you can get a type of pull on silver braid for the fuel lines, but they can look a bit rubbish if not done well, obviously jazzy red/ blue plug leads can be bought too
you can clean the metal fuel lines up with a small softish wire brush, then progressively sand them with wet and dry and you'll get a shiny finish which you can then use some halfords laquer on - won't take more than a couple of hours, makes them shiny and stops them going rusty
-
what bits can I make shinny whilst im working on my motor?probably your wallet
both bits of inlet manifold, cam cover, brush the head, samco's should give you a nicer bay for starters.
-
the exhaust studs unscrew, so if you tighten two nuts very tight on the same thread, you can try and unscrew the stud instead of the nut - this is only for the worn nut, and its a long shot
-
:gag:
sell them to someone who lives in liverpool.... not even a scally would want to nick them
-
welcome
cams yep, will make it perkier, induction kit on mechanical injection is a nono besides the waste of space pipercross kits - try the search, loads of info :D
-
exhaust bolts are notoriously difficult to get off, have you enough thread to double nut and unwind the bolt as opposed to unscrewing the nut?
i've had to attack rounded off nuts/ bolts with a grinder stone on a dremel before :D
have you soaked it in wd40 or similar?
ma rado.....new mods n pics
