yeh its good, reminds me of the northern exposure stuff by digweed
-
for the melodic/ progressive trancers deadmau5 'random album title'
good stuff
-
serious bit of work you got going on here! nice one :D
-
got the cylinder head chambers in the head smooth and shiny, moved onto gasflowing and smoothing the inlet runners :dorky:
-
impressive pictures :D from safety perspective i'd say it's designed to stay tight though
-
vr6 aint my area mate, but if your idling high and it's difficult to start a leaky vacuum pipe/ manifold maybe cause.
have you tried the search function?
sure one those 6 banger boys will be along shortly

you'd have a hard time telling it was anything other than a 2cv in your rear view mirror, until it roared past at 180 that is :D
great - but pretty much pointless
-
we're expecting our first in December :D but i never realised what a minefield pram/ buggy/ car seat selection is!
this thread is therefore v useful, keep those comments/ recommendations coming..

... and the engine is???!
:D

it's possible to make one, check out this link http://tech.mirage-performance.com/teflon-insulating-gasket.html i'm actually toying with the idea of making one at the moment to see if the various bhp claims have any foundation, i actually have a 5mm sheet of teflon ready as photo attached... that piece was like £5 off fleabay
these spacers will definitely keep your inlet manifold cool to the touch as they insulate the manifold from heat conduction from the head, the big question is does this really *prevent* heat soak to the inlet charge and avoid loss of power.... i've done some basic calcs based upon the overbored capacity of my block and the volume of air within the inlet manifold, this gives an indication of how much air is being drawn through the manifold for every revolution, and thus the time the air spends in moving through the manifold..... in the case of my 16v block at 1000rpm the air in the manifold is replaced in much less than a second, which makes me question how much heat can actually conduct from the manifold surface to the air - not much is my suspicion!
for simplicity my calcs ignore the ram effect, but also worth bearing in mind that air is a very good insulator, and conduction will also be prevented to some degree by the slower moving boundary layer
that's my tuppence

agree with rado-steve, bottom line is there is risk with any purchase you make, so long as you can establish a regular service record and the major maintenance items have been dealt with then that would be good enough for most.
seems a tad expensive imo, but good luck wth it.
-
also you could always look for somewhere in the yellow pages, chrome electroplaters could be place to start there.
-
if you mean externally then there's a listing on ebay that does it, search under 16v manifold or similar, i've come accross it a few times now
if you mean internally then your shed

hey john, welcome to the forum
those temps do sound rather high. assuming engine idles fine then cams shouldn't affect temps, worth investigating exaclty what else was done for that extra power though.
best establish cause rather than try to manage the effect, see how you get on after a thorough flush tomorrow, maybe check the thermostat whilst your at it too - it's in a plastic housing on the bottom of the water pump.
if things no better then this is the right place to get the advice :salute:

hey great to see guys from europe on here, nice cars you have/ had there
hope you were not in the first car when that happened  if you were hope you were ok!
-
nah mate i mean curious (ie sceptical) about the pipercross jobby and any better throttle response over a K&N
tbh i personally wouldn't drill an airbox again either - sounds nice granted :D
-
nice, paint looks well, always makes you look twice that flip stuff
-
hey dave, interested in the warm air feed/ mpg issue, is this only used on warm up then?
i don't have an engine to check at minute so can't recall, does the vacuum line run to the ecu or to some other valve?
& pumbaa - try it out i'm curious
cheers

dunno anything about pressed plates, but what's riduculous about this is the fact the rozzers deliberately waited for you, a coincidental encounter then 'fair cop' (!) but to arrange their crime fighting day around nabbing you for such a minor offence is :cuckoo:
-
hey first time ive seen this thread - really good job and its looking sweet, don't lose the urge now man, especially as you're nearly there :salute:
i have all this to look forward to :)
-
yeh i like the matt black look, there's a guy in the republic somewhere that has a matt green one - the same paint the british army use on tanks - looks pretty cool
what you gonna do with it then?
-
not got as far as i'd hoped recently, but quick progress update
Manifolds
now cleaned and gasflowed, decided not to remove the cast marks all the way along length as it would have left a slight depression which i wasn't happy to do, i have removed some restrictions around the plenum, dont expect these will make any difference tbh!
also painted the manifolds and have put high temp reflective tape on the underside of the upper manifold.... i understand about boundary layers and the speed at which air will flow through the manifold so realise this is largely gimmicky - had the tape so did it anyway :dorky: also bought a 5mm sheet of white teflon, again a bit gimmicky but the teflon spacer will stop heat conducting from the head into the inlet.
Inlet Cam
modded an old exhaust cam for use as an inlet, just chopped of the end and scored a new timing mark, you can see the profile difference in the end on shot. may ultimately use shricks instead, not made mind up yet.
Cylinder Head
started smoothing the chambers, but only the surface imperfections as i don't want to remove too much material, photo comparrison shows where i've removed material from around the inlet & exhaust ports, moving onto runners next, busted knuckles time :D
last photo is of a TB/ manifold i bodged together years ago... this uses two large intake butterflys as opposed to one big and one small, it tries to emulate the very large single butterfly of the webber firebreath, the welding on that version deformed the TB to the point where i couldn't maintain idle so had to throw it, tempted to have another go at this...

best bit by far the quip from the ex F1 racer on overtaking May.... (french accent) 'wat is diz sh*t box?.... morriss? pah'
-
1.8 16v's don't have cat convertors!
if ur looking performance gains either gasflow the stock exhaust manifold and get a full stainless system, or my preference get a four branch manifold and full system.
How Much?

agree with the 'all depends on the buyer on the day' jist, but target i'd say early £2k's for an absolute minter, and would have to be someone who wants the 2ltr over any others which is difficult when vr's are soooo temptingly cheap at the moment.
