  1. That would be the wife too Sean! Her idea, so I'll hopefully be a happy boy! Although there is a nice little blackberry just popped up. May be a bit out of my budget though!
  2. Wtf Chris! I didn't see that coming! :(
  3. Not really about my car, although still going perfectly with the exception of the coolant warning light having come on today, even though the level is perfect. That's a brand new genuine expansion tank too. Anyway, back to the reason for posting. My missus has just got a new client who she visits at home once a month. Her first visit on Friday, and there was a sherry pearl sat on axle stands in the garden! Did a drive by last night, and it's obviously been there a while. No idea what flavour or year it is as it has a reiger grill, and weeds had grown up so high they were obscuring the number plate. Missus reckons the bodywork is actually very straight though and seemed to be in decent nick, but it's obvious it's been sat quite a while. Next time she is there she's going to enquire as to whether it's for sale, so I may have a new addition!
  4. I'll have the handbrake cover posted please! Pm me your details and how much for postage and I'll get it over to you straight away. Cheers bud!
  5. Cheers for replies so far guys. Rog, you make a very good point actually, and it's something we have spoken about. We tend to get bored after about a year, and she won't take care of it properly guaranteed! We had a mk5 Gt Tdi about 4 years ago which we loved at the time. It was a late 2005 and we bought it for 7k trade, then Sold it 18 months later for £6700 private which has probably been the best value depreciation wise I've ever owned. Not sure if it would feel like a bit of a step back, but definitely worth considering. We are viewing the Bimmer on Monday now so will see what she thinks after a test drive anyway. Thanks again all! :thumbleft:
  6. Good stuff Sean. Lots of little extras on this now, and all make it that little bit more special. Keep it up mate, always a good read on this thread and adds that little extra to think about. :thumbleft:
  7. As above. Looking for a new daily as the Saab is on its last legs. Bearing in mind the wife will be the main driver, and she had her heart set on the Golf. That is, until I pulled her over to look at the Bimmer. She's now in a mood as I've complicated things! Both are around the 11k mark, and she's found pros and cons with both. The only issue I have is that it'll obviously be used to ferry the kids too, and having never driven a RWD car in the rain, is it really an issue unless your giving it beans? (Obviously she wouldn't be doing that with the kids in though). She prefers the fact the Golf has touchscreen dab radio with the ultrasonic parking screen, but prefers the interior trim and class of the BMW, although visibility isn't great. She's undecided on which she prefers on the exterior, but thinks the "sporty look of the BMW makes it look a bit like a blokes car". Anyone got any experience of both, Or either would be good. General opinions welcome too. I just think the Golf looks a bit well, boring................... Cheers all!!
  8. Uhhh, they won't take that! You may get an assistant that takes pity on you, but last time I tried, I had to find the last remaining Internet cafe in the country to print one off! Hope you all enjoy yourself though. Bit gutted I won't be there now. Off to look at mk6 Golf's for a new daily today now.:(
  9. Sold! Oh yeah, will you take a clapped out Saab with a duff alternator in part ex???
  10. Guys I'm gonna have to give this a miss now I'm afraid. Been looking at the met office weather predictions, and it gives rain most of the day for Avonmouth (Bit closer than Bristol City Centre), although my mum says they have amber storm warnings for tomorrow on itv weather for Bristol anyway. The missus' car is playing up again too, alternator problems again so we are off to look at new cars tomorrow now.
  11. So wish I had LMs :luvlove:............... I too was looking for reps, but finding a set in 17" that people weren't asking similar prices to genuine ones put paid to that.
  12. I got mine from Vw spares (avs). Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive. So far so good, although only a few weeks and about 500 miles in.
  13. Not with the cover, but yeah easy to remove. Half a dozen metal teeth at the back need to be bent up to free off the material, then it all just folds forward and the plastic bracket unclips from the metal strip along the bottom.
  14. Haha, missus was pretty ****ed off with that photo, "I look terrible" Women Cheers fella, you too. (The car I mean) :camp: This time next year I'm hoping to have a damn good un as well.
  15. Yawn! Fuzz is the drummer of an old rock band called Pop will eat itself. Good bloke, alot like Edd China, and Tim Shaw is a bit of a tool, alot like Mike Brewer in many respects..............
  16. I used the evo-stick stuff. I sprayed it on both surfaces, let it go tacky before pressing both together, clamped them together along the edge with a load of welding clamps, and left them overnight. Held up for about another day, then sagged again just above the door pull.
  17. They've just finished series 2. Been on Discovery or one of the others. Got both on the HDD.
  18. Uh oh. I won't be making the journey if it's ****ing down. I'll check the weather Friday but I don't fancy making a 2 hour journey and the possibility of having the kids in tow if it's gonna be raining.
  19. https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/Default.aspx Gives MOT and Tax due dates which helps confirm possible purchases.
  20. Depending on which part of the States your in (Climate), all you'll really need to think about are upgrade headlight loom and either audi tt, or VW Lupo wiper arms and blades. Dependant on climate again, ac is probably a must. If this is correct, then your in warm climes, and rust probably isn't a major issue. Remember, these are around 20 years old now, so it'll never be as refined as a newer car. That said, lots of people the world over still use them as daily drivers, so there are no major things that need to be done. Within your budget, buy the best you can afford, and don't jump at the first you see. Do your research, and as said, have a little aside for replacement of common failure parts. The key here is that preventative maintenance is better than corrective maintenance. :thumbleft: Edit: just seen your last post, I think you should be ok as far as rust goes! I only paid £1200 for my car (less than $2000). Mines not strictly a daily, although I use it quite often, but my car has never failed mechanically. It was pretty rough on the interior, and the paintwork needed a lot of attention, but a rattle can and a good machine polish made it a lot more respectable. There are bargains about, but you need to be prepared to travel a little.
  21. Check you've not left your indicator on. It's supposed to do that.
  22. Look amazing, congrats and hope you had a great day. Thumbs up to DudeVR6 for sorting you out too! :thumbleft:
  23. No Rob. You not coming up Saturday and camping so you have plenty of time to prep for show and shine?...........
  24. Think they're coming south from Gloucester Rog. I'll be leaving about dinner time so I'll give the barbie a miss this time. May have the kids in tow too which means I'd have to leave earlier still.
  25. Sorry to hear this Rob, hope its all sorted for the weekend mate.
