  1. Henny, I'm interested in having the leather seats and door cards at the full asking price. Sent you a PM.
  2. swiftkid, thanks for your answer. Mine is a 93 K plate with a dizzy. So I'm assuming all dizzy ones are the same?
  3. Quick question, does anyone know if the ECU's fitted to an OBD1 VR6 are all the same? I can't get mine off as my car is in storage and I need to know if the ECU's are all the same before I buy one off the forum. Cheers.
  4. Ref tracking and the length of the l/h track rod end, this seems to come up a lot here......as I've said before on several other threads, it makes absolutely no difference and does not need to be measured at all. This is the reason for it...... When the car is being assembled at the factory, to save time on the tracking many car manufacturers use a fixed track rod end on one side, ie, one that cannot be adjusted. The tracking is then done by locking the front fixed wheel with the rear wheel using an appropriate jig, and the tracking is then corrected by adjusting the adjustable track rod end only. Now, when a car is brand new everything is smack on tolerance and the above method can be used. However, with natural wear and tear later in a cars life you will eventually replace the none adjustable track rod end with an adjustable one. This is exactly what you do on the Golf mk2 Gti which starts it's life with a fixed track rod end on one side. To centralise the steering wheel and rack you just make sure that lock to lock is the same left to right. And you also make sure that the track rod ends are adjusted about the same on both sides. I have tracked many VW's (and other makes) and I have never had an issue and I have never measured the fixed arm. The steering is always straight and the car tracks straight and true.
  5. Jim, the blue cap is on my VR6, I swapped them over as the blue one looked nice and new LOL.
  6. If you take the CAT off, then I don't think your car will pass the MOT. Since the MOT system is now all computerised, as soon as they put your car reg into the system it will show the tester that a emissions test/CAT test is required. That's how I understand it anyway.
  7. I took the head off this morning and it was a good call by you guys as it has turned out to be a blown head gasket between cylinders 3 & 4. And it is definitely well blown! Surprisingly the cylinder bores have hardly any wear which is amazing for an engine that has done over 200k. Before the head gasket blew the engine ran very well with good power, and it did not leak any oil, use any excessive engine oil or blow out blue smoke from the exhaust, etc so I am wondering if the engine has been swapped at some point in the cars life. Seems internally to be in way too good a condition for a 200k plus engine. I was not going to bother to repair it, but as the engine seems to be in such good condition I've ordered a new head gasket and cylinder head bolts and I will put it all back together tomorrow. Fingers crossed........
  8. Always good to see one being restored and being made roadworthy again. It looks great.
  9. I have two, a VR6 which is for very occasional use, and a daily which is a 2.0 16v. Living in central Birmingham means that I can't and would not use the VR6 as a daily. Too many thieves, vandals and general scum bangs around and it would not stay intact for more than 5 minutes. They are getting rare, and the good standard ones are even rarer. Give it another 5 years and the good standard ones will be fetching good money again, and you'll also enjoy driving them more as they'll be a very rare sight and get plenty of admiring looks. Bit like me as I get older.....lol
  10. Refurbished a set of calipers myself a little while ago. The ones I bought from off this forum were in a sad state and I was never going to put them on the car in the condition I got them in. So I fully refurbed them with new seals, pistons and bleed nipples. I hope you're going to at least use new seals? Not worth putting them on your pride and joy only to discover that your brakes don't work when you need them to...... http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?65485-Finally-taken-some-pictures-of-my-VR6/page2
  11. Usually when one VW antifreeze is superseded by a later one you can mix them. That was the case with G12, G12+ and finally G12++. The newer antifreezes just have more protection additives and "green additives" so aren't going to do any harm. If in doubt about compatibility I would just ask the VW dealer parts person as they are usually pretty good with info like this as they will be asked all the time. Personally, I renew my coolant on my VR6 every two years, so it's never been an issue for me as I've always used the latest compatible antifreeze.
  12. I'm not trying to interfere with your sale, but having a crankshaft balanced by itself is meaningless. The crankshaft has to be balanced together with the pistons (with rings, pins & circlips), conrods (with shells), flywheel, clutch cover and the front pulley. Once all these components are then put back into the engine, it will then be a balanced engine. Putting a balanced crank into an engine without having the above components balanced with it, is a bit like balancing a wheel and putting on the tyre afterwards!! Like I said, good luck with the sale.
  13. Swampy, yes tried the wet test and it made no difference at all to the compression readings. tony_ack, I think it is the head/valves as when the engine is under load and the revs are building to above 2000rpm you get a clattering noise. Sticking valves may be?? From within the car it sounded like pinking, only much louder. The noise is coming from within the head. I'm going to take the cam cover off when I start to strip it down so hopefully I'll see something wrong straight away. At idle and low revs it is running on 2 cylinders as removing plug leads 3 & 4 makes no difference at all. When you get to high revs it does seem to "run" on 4 cylinders, but this is just because the momentum of the engine is building some compression and cylinders 3 & 4 start "working" a little better. You make a good point about the head gasket may be leaking between cylinders 3 & 4, although I don't think it is going to be as simple as that, as it never is!!! I've never opened up a VW 16 valve head before so are the tappets/valves hydraulic like on a 8v head??
  14. Bought a compression tester today and checked compression and there is very little compression in cylinders 3 & 4. Cylinders 1 & 2 are fine. I think it is the head/valves so I'm trying to get hold of another complete head. It doesn't sound like the bottom end. It's too cold to strip it in this weather so I will have to wait until it warms up a little.....
  15. 1/ Ferrari 288 GTO 2/ Jaguar E Type V12 Roadster 3/ MK1 Ford Escort RS1600 or Twin Cam 4/ MK2 Ford Escort RS2000 5/ MK1 Ford Lotus Cortina Needs to be a top 10 list as there are too many of them that I want!!!!!!!!!!
  16. I'm interested in the head. Sent you an email.
  17. Too many "racer types" on the roads who think they can drive, when they very obviously cannot. I see it all the time and I'll admit I do enjoy teaching them a thing or two.....
  18. Does anyone have experience of doing a compression test on a 2.0 16v 9a engine? I know the plug holes are recessed pretty deep in the head so my current compression tool does not reach. So I'm going to buy a new one. Any recommendations on which compression tool is suitable for this engine?? Thanks.
  19. Such a shame this is not black leather which is what I am after. If it had been black I would have had the lot off you for the full asking price. Good luck with selling it.
  20. No sorry I don't. Mine is a 93 VR6 and it has the better looking Karmann badge, the one with the little wheel emblem. Not sure what year the other one is off. Yours has the same one as my VR6 doesn't it??
  21. I like the look of them and think they look nice on an original period Corrado, especially if it is silver. I remember when Tiff Needell tested the first ever Corrado when it was launched. It was silver with Sebrings. Remember, if you want your car to be worth anything in the future then keep it original. What something is worth is dependent on the condition, and what somebody is willing to pay for it. Nothing else matters.
  22. Nino, I didn't get the chance to go to the post office today, been working all day. I will 100% go on Monday morning and let you know asap. Don't worry, the speakers are yours and are not going to anyone else as you have first refusal on them. I don't think postage will be more than a couple of pounds, but just want to be sure.
  23. I like the look at that POR15. Where do you get it from??
