  1. I was doing a fair bit of reading so must have got confused with another thread i had read. Anyway its good to have the info on here for the people looking to put a kit together themselves.
  2. i posted that link to that topic in another thread, it has some really usefullinfo in it.
  3. how big are the evo 8 calipers? you also have to watch for clearance on the other side if the discs offset to far in. Good luck would be nice to see some big brakes behind them open spokes.
  4. heres a link to the thread i menioned earlier http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/202365.aspx
  5. James theres a thread on the uk mkiv's forum where a guy has used some redrilled alfa discs on his diy brembo conversion, from his research they proved to be perfect size and offset together with being reasonably cheap. They offered more clearance than the leon 323 discs due to the offset. Its like a 4 page thread or somesting and has a lot of useful info in it. I'll try and dig it out later if you cant find it.
  6. The finish of the overlays in the main is fine its just on the corners the overlay is to thick so it crumples together. Its only noticable if you look up close. Nice work on the 288's its a worthwhile upgrade and not sure if you suffered squeeking brakes ever? but you dont get them with the 288's due to a newer design on the anti rattle spring. Im sure ac is quite straight forward to fit if you can get the donor parts, Im just too busy to look in to it or to take on the work. If i had the time id love to do it.
  7. Thats right it was a dealer fit option only, maybe its me but i think i would use it a fair but in the summer. Maybe i should be happy with the spec i have  Hows the mk1? im looking for inspiration to get mine back on the road for the summer!
  8. The vr ones are overlays and only the reverse light is striped, i think i will swap them to savage tinted ones when the weather gets better as the finish is better. The moonlight 16v had pinstriped indicators and reverse lights and was tinted with savage spary. The finish was excellent imo but the tint used to fade with the sun. So im going to try and laquer over the tint when i do the ones for the vr.
  9. does you car have ac? Thats the one thing i would love on mine
  10. Red rears on moonlight blue look superb, heres a pic on my first corrado which was moonlight blue Just make sure you fit the led bulbs on the back so the indicators flash orange. Good call with the rs's thats exactly why mine are tucked away waiting for summer.
  11. i love the 4 spoke bbs wheels, have you got one you want to swap?
  12. The Standard vr wheel is nicer imo, its smaller diameter, has a thicker rim and also sits closer to the driver. Standard looking interiors suit me best :) Cheers Chris, im running KW variant 2's, given the ride height the ride quality is good. Its much better on my 17" rs's though as they are only 8j and are also much lighter than the ch's.
  13. Cheers Jim, i always wanted to get some rolling shots but never got round to it. The quiet roads on Xmas day were perfect
  14. Nice Car, seem you have some interesting plans for it.
  15. Cool i was getting worried for the wheels
  16. Heres a few interior pics i took, im going to refit the standard wheel. I think the bbs wheel looks out of place so its going back in my mk1
  17. cars looking great as usual, even better in the australian sunshine :D
  18. looks weet, are you running the wheels through winter?
  19. Congrats Rob, im sure the best part of the conversion will be the planning and the challenge in getting it fitted.
  20. Pete ive done it. In a nutsell I basically jacked the car up and supported it on axel stands. Placed a jack under the engine, undid the gearbox and front engine mount so i could tilt the engine and gearbox down to clear the chassis leg. To gain sufficient clearance to get the gearbox off you have to rotate the gearbox as you are removing it. I then removed the gearbox from under the car. I know thats a basic how to so if you need any more details let me know.
  21. nice pics, the car looks like its ready to do some damage parked on your driveway :D The cropping is annoying.
  22. thanks. The forums cropped my pics again!

  24. set the platforms to a set distance from the bottom of the threads, then when they have been fitted to the car you will have re adjust them again. A fixed position on of the platforms against the strut does not always relate to an even ride height once fitted to the car. When they have been fitted roughly adjust to your desired height, you can use the sill to the ground as a reference. Then drive the car a bit a re adjust as necessary. Ideally you want to measure the height when parked on level ground. Only once your happy with the height go and get your allignment done.
