  1. I just popped out to the garage and measured the arches, measurements are from the ground to the centre of the wheel arch running through the centre cap to ensure it was the middle Front: 554mm Rear: 575mm note on the rs's i ran the platforms on the coils 6mm lower than on the ch's but i dont think that translates to a 6mm higher ride height as the beam had swung forward slightly....
  2. From a different angle i like my engines to look factory in the bay and all the vr6 turbos ive seen look messy in the bay where as you can maKe an r32 look like this. Admitedly its in a smoothed mk2 golf bay but it does look amazing 8)
  3. The manifold, rocker cover etc were degreased and pressure washed then wiped down with meths. I sprayed them with matt black heat resistant paint. I didnt rub the metal down as i wanted to keep the grain so it looked oem, the paint was sprayed in thin coats to let this show through. heres some pics
  4. They did the CH 006's which were 8.5 x 17 et35 5 x 100 which would be a direct fit but i've never seen any for sale? Mines are CH 003's which are 8.5 x 17 et35 5 x 112 fitment, ive got double drilled hubs and discs so run both 5 x 100 and 5 x 112 pcd so they bolt straight on.
  5. Thanks for the comments guys, pics were taken on a point an shoot camera and came out quite nicely 8) Thanks, i'll measure them up and post later this evening, i actually raised the back 6mm on the coilover threads from when i was running the rs's as it looked like it had reverse rake with the ch's Front end has been resprayed but the rest of the paint is original, its just had a good detail from my brother whos handy with a rotary. Suits me fine as if i ever had a respray i would be scared to drive the car :) no problem
  6. Does the forum crop pics? I've posted them at 800 x 600 and now they appear cropped?
  7. Here's some pics from West Londons current favoured location for photo shoots  Matt Black engine...
  8. Great feed back, ive thought about this route before but was off put as i like my steering wheel in the lowest position. After further thought i think i could get away with spacing a fixed column down to get it to sit at a height i like. Reading your experiance is making me move this further up my list of things to do....
  9. no idea on the residue on your piston crowns but congrats on doing the work yourself.
  10. nice, coincidentally i have also been doing work in the same area, i ordered a leather handbrake handle the other day from vw, apparently it was the last one....
  11. Worn vale guides wont be responsible for the tappety noise but if your are going to take the head off and do the guides and tappets then i would change them. On higher mileage engines the guides can wear causing higher oil consumption so woul de worthwhile replacing to save taking the head of to do the job at a later date, A complete set of 12 guides is about £70 from GSF and depending how competant you are they can be replaced using a drift. If not you can get an engineering firm to press them in.
  12. cheeky  I havent put aero wipers on so far as i don't like the look of them, they stand out too much. But now my standard wipers are getting worse and worse im planning on making the switch. Just have to do some reearch as to what to go for and where to buy 8) Thanks Hersites, knowing me they will be for sale before Christmas
  13. they are not that powerful price of crude has still dropped despite their decision to reduce output
  14. where did you get an enamel based clearcoat? i've searched on ebay but cannot find anything, do you have any links?
  15. Thaks Hassan i'll give it a go before i try new bottles :)
  16. Thanks i just wanted a nice set of one piece wheels to run that i dont have to worry about cleaning. Heres pics of my bay, i have a few more things to do to bring it up to scratch, especially after seeing Leons over the weekend I plan to wrap up the exposed parts of the loom, clean or change the bottles and i need to bring my hoses up to scratch.
  17. my old k reg valver had the red 16v front badge on a 3 slat grille...
  18. the rs's are a factory 8 x 17" et32 so slighty different to regular rs301's. Mine taper in as you get towards the mounting face on the inside so i think running 312's would have given me more clearance because he carrier and pad would have been further out and also because 312's have a slightly higher offset and alow for more clearance.
  19. have you done a compression test on it? That will identify if any of the cylinders are losing pressure!
  20. Just a quick update, i still have to write up my engine swap shenanigans which i will do at the weekend  Now the car is running and since i missed summer and i'm using the car on the daily ive taken the rs's off for the moment. New wheels are bbs CH 003's in 8.5x17 running 215/35/17 tyres. I fitted them on Sunday but not had a chance to adjust the height as the car is sitting funny. It was an interesting fitting session as at et35 they just clear the struts but i had to make 100% sure before i started driving it. All was good and they have gone on without any spacers which means they sit quite nicely within the arch. Just the ride hide to adjust to finish but i plan to do that this weekend. Heres the pics, wheels in my garage nice profile on the 215/35/17's A quick pic of the car,its not been washed for weeks :gag: I'll take a few more pics when i get a chance but the caliper clearance is huge! Especially compared to my rs's that could not even take the 288mm setup without slight modification to the calipers and carriers. This means im tempted to take advantage and fit a nice brake setup untill i put the rs's back on. Anyhow i'm not sure on the wheels, i need to adjust the height and then decide how much i like them.
  21. 5 stud hubs require m14 wheel bolts where as the 4 stud hubs use m12 bolts.
  22. its amazing how quickly those pics have spread after the car parked up on bond street
  23. nice one, must have been cool trying out the suspension geometry on the ring 8) How did the car feel?
  24. you could always drill out the dish to accept the larger valves.
  25. the £40 doesnt include the all important 312mm carriers
