  1. Hassan check my thread here, http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=70741 ive got my vag com working, turns out the lead refuses to work with my thinkpads, its fine with my sisters toshiba
  2. the bush was definately missing, ive just tapped a new one in today. Once the starter was refitted the solenoid would click but would not turn the engine over. It sounded like the starter meshed with the flywheel but something was jammed and not allowing it to spin. after a few attempts the engine turned over and started so im pretty sure the old bush was in there somewhere, problems solved now starter turns the engine over perfectly with no noise funny noises :)
  3. Looking good Bally hopefully get to see it in the flesh soon
  4. i couldnt see it in the casing and then i tried to tap in a new one but that cracked so i have to get another tommorow,
  5. nice, every ones going 24v! i guess its the way forward 8)
  6. lol these things all happen at once just when i was looking forward to driving the car. I swear i heard what sounded like a starter motor bush rattle inside the casing. Will this cause any damage?
  7. I did take out the plugs, 1,3 and 5 looked normal, 2,4 and 6 were black. But Number 6 was excessively black with alot of build up on it. If it is the head gasket i will be somewhat relieved as i can get the car fixed next weekend. Its just random problems that i cant trace that i hate. If it is the head gasket looks i will be doing the chains aswell and might as well source another gearbox as mines crunching quite alot now. I can't start the car at the moment as im having an issue with the starter engaging, see my other thread. I should have that fixed in the morning so i can investigate further.
  8. As the title if you try to turn over an engine when the starter motor bush is missing what happens? I changed the starter motor on my vr6 a few days a go and yesterday when i was trying to turn the engine over it started making a grinding noise. Then after a few attempts the engine would not turn over at all, the solenoid would click but not engage or spin. I removed the starter motor today and i cannot see the bush inside the gearbox casing. Would the fact that its missing have caused the grinding noise? the flywheel or the teeth on the starter did not look damaged! If i fit a new bush should this resolve the problem?
  9. when the head gasket goes does the smoke coming from the exhaust smell of fuel? Is there anyway i can check its the head gasket without taking the head off?
  10. theres no mayo under the cap, didnt see any obvious signs of oil and water mixing. The car does use a bit of water though. If the head gasket was gone would it be possible for the car to run rough then run normally for a while before running rough again? As thats whats happened.
  11. A few weeks ago i was driving my car and it started misfiring, I was a little worried as it didnt seem like the misfiring i used to get when my coilpack was going, this time the car was struggling to idle and also rev up. It was also putting out a lot of smoke from the exhaust. But as i was using poor quality leads on it and they were prone to arching i put it down to that. When i pulled up at the side of the road i could clearly see atleast two of the ignition leads arching on to the head so i thought i had confirmed my suspicions. I stopped at a petrol station and wrapped the two leads that were arching in insulation tape and took it for a drive, it was still misfiring but a few minutes in to the drive it stopped and drove normally so i drove the car back home. The next day i had a similar issue that the car started misfiring and then it stopped. When i got home it started misfiring again and hasnt stopped since then. As it stands the engine starts and runs, the idle is lumpy and it struggles to rev up. It is also puting out loads of smoke that smells heavily of fuel. I have done the following so far: 1. I changed my ignition leads and the problem still remains. 2. pulled the ignition leads one at a time from the coilpack whilst the car is running and the engine note changed on each one so all cyclinders do seem to be sparking, 3. I could hear a hissing noise from the idle control pot near the throttlebody so i bypassed it and the problem was still there. 4. Ive pulled out the spark plugs on each of the cylinders, they all looked okay albiet a little black on numbers 2, 4 and 6, also no oil on number 6 to be seen 5. Last night i scanned the car for error codes and it advised the following, 01242 - Output Stages in Control Module 34-00 - No Malfunction Detected 01253 - Fuel Injector for Cylinder 5 (N83) 31-10 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent Tonight i will check the wiring for the injector but what is the other error code al about? Heres a video of the car smoking on idle and also when giving it some throttle. Anybody have any idea what is up with the engine?
  12. I think mine has the same problem, my cars overfueling and throwing loads of smoke out the exhaust. I had a look in the engine bay and i can hear a hissing noise from near the throttle body area.
  13. Leads are here, the depot was local so decided to collect them as i was getting impatient. I'm really happy with them! the quality is excellent as you can see in the pics below. Fitted them and they don't arc but the misfire is still there and the car is still smoking. I'll start a new thread as im a little confused now.
  14. Kev, indeed you did, but it was still cheaper to use usps than the next option up. I chased up parcelforce and paid the charges and rescheduled the delivery for tommorow. Still not bad considering i put the order in last Thursday,
  15. i think the amount of times ive got away with it i was due to pay some customs charges sooner or later, now i just want my leads, they're still sitting in the coventry international hub :brickwall:
  16. i managed to get through to HMRC at the parcel force international hub in coventry (tel 02476212860 if anyone needs it for future ref) and they kindly advised me that i have to pay £12.14 in vat and i have to pay parcelforces admin charge of £13.50. Vat i was expecting but i do not agree with parcelforces admin charge but theres nothing i can do so will have to pay to get the parcel delivered. Hopefully should be able to get hold of the leads for the weekend.
  17. you know what you're right, just tracked it with parcel force and its status is "AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGES" I'll chase them up in the morning and see if i can try to get it delivered asap
  18. The leads arrived in the uk on Sunday but have been with customs ever since. Hopefully i'm contacted soon as i could do with my car back on the road. Can't chase anyone as i dont know for sure who is handling the parcel on this side so its a bit of a waiting game :brickwall:
  19. nice car, thats exactly what i did to my car. a good detail can work wonders 8) have you installed hids in your headlamps?
  20. if you want/need the clearance go for the dunlops their 215/35/16 is a lower profile than 205/40/16's
  21. i can't remember if i had that problem when i removed my standard suspension but i may have had both sides on axle stands so wouldnt have had this issue.
  22. you could try and undo the anti roll bar droplink from the wishbone, this will free the wishbone up.
  23. dunlop sp9000 215/35/16 are perfect but are quite pricey and now difficult to get hold of. You could also go falken 205/40/16 which is what Ballys running on his 9x16's and they are also look good too and are cheaper. this mk2's running 215/35/16's sp9000's on the back this is bally's running 205/40/16's falkens all round
  24. I checked the prices for sending out with Fedex economy and it was working out $150, so I’ve stuck with usps as it still works out cheaper even if I get stung by the £35 charge. A few years ago I sourced a few old skool rockford amps from US ebay and I got the sellers to send out via usps, on this side they were delivered with dhl, maybe things have changed... I have to say I’m impressed with the customer service and professionalism i have experienced using schimmel , its a refreshing change. Thanks for the offer but they have managed to despatch the leads to me today so i should have them next week if all goes to plan
  25. Well im putting the order through Schimmel directly as they can ship using usps priority which should only take up to 5 days. I can wait for a decent set of leads as i tried a spare set of leads a mate had and although they were arching less, the car still had a misfire. Hopefully the new leads should fix this problem, Only thing I
