  1. My ABS is completely dead, so no light comes on at ignition time, so it's failed the MOT. I need to get it fixed and it sounds like the ABS isn't getting any juice at all and I've tested it and it doesn't work (found a quiet road, jabbed the brakes, wheels locked up with no ABS judder). Fuse 4 is apparently the ABS fuse in the main fuse panel and looks good, but so do all the other fuses in there. The panel behind the glove box has: 2 fuses which are also good and 3 relays, which are all corrosion free, but don't know for sure if they work (how do I test them?). I've also got a spare ABS ECU, but swapping that didn't make any difference. So now I'm outta ideas... anybody got any suggestions? Are there any more fuses or relays I can check? Or is it chase the bastid wire time and see if there's anything wrong... hmm, I've had the fusebox a couple of times, so maybe the connection on the back of there has come loose...
  2. Despite their reputation, quite a few of the VAG dealers have good parts departments, know what they're talking about and will do you a discount. Otherwise if you've got a local VW Specialist garage you could ask if they'd order parts for you and sell them on to you at trade price. Either way, getting your hands on a copy of the electronic VAG parts catalogue (either in the form of ETKA or ETOS, doesn't matter which) will help you out no end.
  3. I reckon you should go find a nice bit of straight, flat (*cough* private) road and give it a try Kev... ;)
  4. No idea about the fronts, but the rear bearings are pressed into the brake disk - you can probably whack the old ones out ok, but wouldn't be too comfortable pressing new ones in. The rear bearings are about £15 a side I believe and easy for a garage to change for you. If you are doing it yourself, have a search on here for the correct torque setting - it's not very much and if you over-tighten them you'll damage the bearing and be replacing it again in a few months time. Similarly, you don't want to not do the hub nut up tight enough!
  5. Interesting reading about the fuelling - makes you realise just how complicated it is when you have to do it yourself :? My only comment is on tyres - I find the Rainsports a bit soggy compared to the Bridgie RE720s I used to have. The Rainsports have loads of grip (spooky how they just go through puddles like they're not there), but they just don't feel as sure-footed. I'm gonna try for something else next time with a slightly stiffer sidewall. God knows when that'll be tho cos I do very few miles now... And as you can't get RE720s any more, I've no idea how they stacked up against anything other than the Rainsports.
  6. I believe it was anything registered after 1st August 1992, so anything on a K plate or later needs a cat.
  7. Sorry - it is worth pointing out that our grand excursion was almost entirely on arrow-straight highways and the noise didn't get any worse at any point. It was also a rear wheel bearing, which is under a lot less load than the fronts. Even so, as the good doctor and scarlett have said - keep an eye on it. Or uh just move your service forward...?

    Which Seats??

How's about these Recaros from an Alfa? the Mk2 Recaros are very similar, but electric too for a bit of sexiness. But if you want vibrant, surely you should be looking at some pink leathers?
  9. I also have the luxury of a backup ABS ECU so I can swap that out and see if it makes any difference...
  10. Yeah, it wasn't exactly legal and the cop wasn't too impressed when he caught us doing double the limit...
  11. Yeah, was even better considering we did it in 12hrs
  12. Looks like my ABS is dead too - will have to have a rummage for relays and fuses tomorrow. If I find anything, I'll let you know :)
  13. When I went to Canada, we did a 1100 mile drive on a dodgy wheel bearing with no worries in chimo's car...
  14. I'd imagine that the pump's wearing out so can't supply the fuel quick enough when you're up at the top of the rev range and although it might be intermittant at the moment, it aint gonna get any better on it's own. If the pump does let go then it'll starve the engine of fuel and it'll stall, most likely when you've got your right foot buried in the carpet. It shouldn't do any damage to the engine, but it won't be pleasant, especially if you're on a motorway. I'm not sure what pump the valvers use (I think it's some strange dual-pump setup) but the 4-bar pump for the G60/VR is £70ish. You'll also need some fuel hose clips (like jubilee clips, but smooth on the inside so they don't cut the hose) and you may also need the sender unit too as some of them are different (again - have a search to find out for sure on that one).
  15. If you fancy taking some pics while you do it and putting together a write-up in a post on here when you're done it'd make a good wiki article :)
  16. Cool to know - I wonder what it's like with the 312s on :) If your rear brakes lock first I think that might be an MOT failure tho - it's certainlt an SVA failure :s
  17. If you could take some pics while you do it and fancy doing a write up, this would make an ace wiki article :)
  18. How long can you wait for the money? It got to the point with my insurers that they said "ok, this is as much as we're offering - take it or leave it". At which point I figured I'd accept
  19. I've got plans, but as duke_st says - looks like it'll be about £7k all in :(
  20. If you fancy taking some pics while you do it and compiling it all into one post - this would make a useful wiki article when you're done :)

  22. Looks like a nice setup, it's just a shame that nobody makes decent quality screens with VGA inputs - they all have composite inputs. Hmm, could probably get someone at work to lash me a circuit up tho  That's getting silly.
  23. The Celica is cool, but the Model A makes me smile :) Almost as impressive as building a car out of cake
  24. Hurrah for the Manfrotto limpet mount and the sexy bullet cam. Oh and there's a car attached to it too or something
