  1. not quite sure why you'd even need a full length scuttle cover anyway (apart from making it look pretty), the Corrado has no bonnet vents like the mk1 and mk2 golf and has seals at the windscreen and engine bay edges. Leaves would still get into the scuttle area even if you had a full length cover, as they enter at the sides and that's where you need ventillation so you can get air into the cabin through the blower. I've seen a couple of mk2 ones cut to fit the Corrado scuttle area, look OK, but they don't actually do anything.
  2. The 02J gearbox from the mk4 is essentially the same as the 02A so you should be able to transfer the cogs and bits into your VR bellhousing, probably even reusing the old shift tower, unless you want to convert to the mk4 shifter and gearlever at the same time.
  3. you sure all the wiring is OK, it gets very brittle as it's pretty exposed at the front of the engine where the switches are.

    camber

camber should only be adjusted by the two bolts that hold the susp leg to the hub, the bottom ball joint will probably affect camber, but is not the way to adjust camber. It's possible they have been replaced and not properly aligned in the end of the wishbone, or even that you have bent wishbones? would be good to see some pics of the camber/ball joints and ride height dodgy wishbone bushes or top mounts would also affect camber.
  5. so have you swapped in another set of clocks to prove that? Do any of the other gauges behave oddly, if so, perhaps it's an earth or voltage regulator problem in the clocks. The only time I've ever seen oil temp reading issues is with dodgy earths on the engine/head, even the senders are pretty reliable.
  6. touching up a red can be a PITA as it fades so badly making matching almost impossible. I'd try a spray can of the correct paint either from VW (if you can get it) or mixed to the VW colour, I've never had much luck with Halfords colours. Test a bit inside the boot to see how close it matches. Then mask the surrounding area 5 or 10mm away from the edge of the faded area, then spray several thin coats. It really needs a week or two to harden and then you can cut it back with fine wet and dry paper and T-cut and bring it to a nice shine.
  7. I don't think it will make much difference, I just got mine all aligned after dropping the frame, nothing seems to go back spot on with front end work.
  8. I thought Eric had a IR temp reader and Jim was going to try, or did try this on his engine? I really must try the one out my dads garage have, we used it once on the engine block when I was worried about oil temps and it confirmed my 16v MFA oil temp reading was pretty much bang on, out of interest I have an oil filter bracket from a SEAT on my car which came with another oil temp sender on the top, instead of the blank that 2L Corrados have, same sender as the one on the back of the 16v head but in the filter position it read a couple of degrees lower all the time. Next time I get the chance I'll take IR readings all around the engine bay and cooling system with/without the rad fan on, will be interesting to see how it varies, well, interesting in a dull sort of way
  9. mate, there's both items in that pic, aux air valve is the one lower down, circled, overrun cut off is the one with the elec connector and the vacuum pipe
  10. sorry, you've now reminded me that the old hose ends were pretty well bonded to the metal pipes, I think I used a stanley blade to split the hose all the way along to help removing it.
  11. cant please everyone....wheels will be changed soon... I don't think it's that vr6storm doesn't like the badge, it's that they were built at Karmann not Wolfsburg :)
  12. seriously, don't bother, they are crap plastic and don't fit very well, you can make one yourself that will look just as good, in fact probably better and without the round screw cap covers that are on the front, I bought mine about 10 years ago with all the proper fitting clips and brackets, it was a right bodge from VW.
  13. yep, that's it, but I did manage it OK at work in the car park in a few minutes, so can be done hanging over the front of the car.
  14. as soon as I read your first post I thought 'small straight hose' Mine did exactly the same about 6 years ago, turned the engine off and it popped, small split in the side of it, it's closest to the engine, so a bit like the top hose on the back of the VR it gets the most extremes of temperature and gets quite weak over the years. pain to do, but I did it in the work car park with a pair of water pump pliers for the spring clips and a lot of swearing and a scraped knuckle or two. It's actually very short, which is the problem, as there's little room to bend it to get both ends to fit, a silicone one from the samco set was even more of a pig as they're not as flexible as the rubber hoses.
  15. the KA handles OK but in all other respects is a pile of poo, they rot, the old 1.3 engines are from the stone age and don't do high miles at all well and they look like a fat bird from behind. I'm not recommending one, but a 3 cylinder corsa does a lot of mpg, another grim car to own though. How about a high miles passat TDI, nice and comfy compared to a 1L petrol tin can.
  16. shift tower swap is not really taking the box to bits it's just two 13mm bolts holding it in the top of the box and then depending on the build date of the box you might have to drain the oil and swap over the bearing cap that unbolts from the bottom of the box, again with 2 13mm bolts, doddle really.
  17. where are they then? I thought you usually went to stealth? be good if it finally sorts your temp issue, that's been going on for yonks
  18. the fixed column shaft from the early 16v/late 8v is exactly the same as the polo column (if you can find one) it's not a difficult job, you just need to buy the Corrado fixed column tube new from VW and then find a complete polo column to nick the shaft from rather than buying the shaft new. The worst bit is drilling the shear bolts out, and you'll have to do that even if you fit another adjustable Corrado one. Even if you have to drill out a hole in the steering lock to release the polo lock (if you want to keep your old Corrado ign key) it's still and easy job really
  19. to bring the torque curve down the rev range, as the 2L 9A red lines about 700rpm lower than the KR, this is partly because the 2L doesn't rev quite as keenly as the KR with it's bigger pistons but the same con rods, but also to make the 16v feel better to drive in lower revs with the relatively heavy Corrado body and then being a little restricted by having to have a cat (the catalysed 1.8 16v was only about 125 bhp)
  20. worth checking the track rods, inner and outer joints as well as the wishbone bushes and bottom (hub) ball joints if you put the car on full lock and rock the steering wheel a few cm, then if someone else holds the track rod a quite pronounced clunk will be felt/heard if the inner track rod joint it worn. a damaged rack will usually involve one or more of the valves/seals going inside it and power assistance will vary from side to side, feeling perhaps heavy one way and not the other, very unlikely that the rack and pinion itself is the damaged part.
  21. and if they do still become obselete, we know who to come to for trim bits :)
  22. yep, you don't want them dropping into the engine, the 'top-hats' aren't essential, they're a modification to the K-jet injector to provide a heat shield to the end of the injector, plenty of people on club GTI have bought brass mercedes ones like these (no top hat and seal) from e-bay and they work just fine. Of course you might have early mk2 8v GTI/mk1 injectors there, in which case they may not flow enough or open at the right pressure
  23. if you can weld, then cutting and shutting a gearlever relay plate to change the pivot point is a very cheap way to reduce throw, a passat plate is probably a better starting point than a Corrado one and then you can always swap back if you have any issues. A 25-30% reduction is about what you'll get, In any case more of a reduction than that and the change will become very notchy.
  24.                 we have a WINNER !!! Being a judge we all know he is telling the truth nah, supercharged has a mk4 dash that maxes out at 200mpg
