Bit harsh there Kev, everybody's entitled to their opinion. Personally I prefer my 1.8T Passat to the VR6 Vento that I had previously. It's a lot more economical, just as much power and "towability", it's probably going to be easier to maintain. Having tried out an A4 1.8T, I plumped for the Passat as it was a "lighter"/"Airier" car, cheaper to buy too :)

It's the A3 series and TTs that are basically golfs that have 5x100, all others (dunno about A2) have 5x112 (as has the Passats...)
-
The TT wheels are 5x100 PCD anyway...

No offence Neil, but as I was trying to point out, this was YOUR point of view only, and was a bit annoyed at it being "stickied" over and above the "proper" consensus view. FWIW imho the SuperSprint is a very difficult fit, BUT when done properly is a very good exhaust system. They have improved in quality control since I had mine fitted nearly 10 years ago. If the VW ones rust quickly, explain my one that was fitted 13 years ago and is still providing sterling service now? I can't comment on either Magnex or Milltek as I have no experience of either. [/coat!]

It's quite old that review though...

I know it's a bit late, but if anybody fancies doing a CD Swap bring 'em along to Midlands Meet tomorrow and I'll sort it out *wink*

Car: G60 Exhaust 1: SuperSprint Mega System, Cat back. Sturdy, appeared well made (albeit mild steel). VERY heavy system, which required about 3 hours fitting by specialist. However, very satisfying visually and orally. Went through rubbers like crazy though. Lasted approx 4 years/45,000 miles, then rotted through. Exhaust 2:Stainless Steel Scorpion, cat back. Looked okay off the body, but fit was worse than terrible. Rattled against rear bumper so badly that after about 2 months had melted the bumper around the surround. Took back to Scorpion and their excuse was that I had some "weird german body kit on the car" Like hell I did! Car: VR6 exhaust Standard VW still. Now consider this is now a 13 year old car, has done 70k miles and STILL has the original exhaust on... So, in conclusion, Heart says go for the SuperSprint, head says stick with the OE VW one. :)

I'm not saying that mine was typical of the bunch Kev, I'm sure they CAN last many more years, and if you notice I WAS actually thinking of buying another one... I think a lot of the problems with the SuperSprints is to do with the shear weight of the things. I needed special rubbers for them, and then the hangers just broke clean off... :( And even at £340, isn't that about half the price of a VW one?

Mixed feelings about this myself. I had a SuperSprint on the G60 for about 5 years, looked great and sounded great, but fell to pieces eventually after about 40k miles. So, on the whole not THAT good quality. It was eventually replaced with a Scorpion which was the biggest mistake ever! (CRAP!) I was later told that the SuperSprint should've had a 10 year warranty. However, I was thinking of when the time came to replace the Campaign's with a Supersprint, but ONLY when the time came that the original fell to bits. So either I buy a SuperSprint NOW and keep it in storage (maybe for it to rust from within before it's ever fitted) or I just eventually get a genuine replacement (a bit boring). :sigh:

TBH I think I'd prefer the old one anyway ;) -

Broadspeed are a VERY long established company. In the 60s they used to modify minis and Jags. I was gonna buy a Seat Inca van off them about 5 years ago for about £3,000 (irish spec) brand new, but they had run out of them by the time I got the order sorted out here :( -
I had a Spider called Boris living in my Land-Rover - used to scare the sh*t out the mrs when he popped down from the pop of the windscreen whilst we were driving along...
-
If I get it chipped, what sort of power can I get out of this lump ?
-
Cheers, I've always like them actually ever since I had a renter back in the early 90s, but this was the first of the B5s that I had tried out. Really wanted the 1.8t too as, although I know the TDi's are getting more desireable they cost about a grand more for the same car. Needless to say, I got a cracking deal on this one. :)

ANYTHING BUT BBSs ;) You know me... Looking for something unusual, some Zenders or Nothelles probably... As I say, biding my time really. Might lower it, and (re/de)badge it. Probably getting a chrome kit for it. Also, I have some rather nice S3 leather/alcantera seats sitting in the workshop at the moment that just MIGHT be making an appearance... at last!

During 1998 I did just under 27,000 miles in my C (had 1 major and two minor services) as I was driving to Sheffield and back from Leicester each day. This year, so far 147 miles :)

Well, finally got the Passat a few sample pics here, but a few more at AutoPoster Hope you likey... Details: 1.8t 20v SE, Green (not certain of exact colour - haven't checked yet), 100k miles, very clean, Climatronic, no Sunroof :( Mods so far are upgraded to new Sony CDX-MP80 headunit and changed gearknob. Looking for some nice wheels to go with it, but biding my time on these :)
-
Sony MP-80 can be had for about £120 off ebay and is wonderful unit!

You could try Leicester Car Radio on Abbey Lane - I've used them for years 0500 130 538 (just mention Jez when you ring ;) - It'll probably get you bugger all discount, but keeps me in touch with them.)
