Hello all, Have got a nice new set of Koni TA's and some H&R springs to replace my FK coilovers as I find them to harsh. As the H&R's are aprrox 30mm lower than standard springs I figure you have to take that much off the bump stops front and rear to give you full damper travel or there is going to be lots of dull thuds from the suspension. Question is where do you lost 30mm from the stops? The rears are not to bad as the lower section is not too formed and they are more of a uniform cyclinder. The fronts on the other hand are tapered at the bottom, my best guess would be to take 30mm from the top of the stop below the the taper and bond the top section back on to the chopped down stop.

Phoned stealth reference a clutch and they recommended using a VR one instead so going to do that. How much did you lighten your flywheel by VEEDUBBED?
-
Using an early digifant ecu. Looked at some of the more sophiscated managment systems but its just too much money right now and I would rather spend it on 'box mods when I do get it. A whole third lighter! sounds good to me. What if I get the crank balanced with the clutch cover and flywheel and leave the clutch out?

Hello all, Am building a 16v G60 and would like to lighten the flywheel as well as having it balanced. Don't want to advance the idle above 900rpm to keep the engine idling so I would like to know a ball park figure for how much lighter to make the flywheel, my random guess is 10% but not sure what effect the charger load is going to have at idle. Specs of build are below: Standard charger Ported and flowed KR head Merc sprinter intercooler Balanced con-rods, crankshaft (with clutch and flywheel fitted), oil input shaft and cams. Gasket ported Audi RS2 intake manifold Audi RS2 conrods Ported throttle body Gasket ported KR exhaust manifold JMR downpipe onto miltek system 325cc injectors Rising rate FPR

Legal justice and social justice are poles apart. There is something to be said for the Saudi system of justice (Ahem) when it comes to these sorts of crimes.

Nightmare, aside from having your car nicked this is the next worse thing. Good to look on the positive side though, do some project work on the motor. Coppers just arn't too helpful when it comes to this sort of thing and nine times out of ten they could narrow the suspects down to about 10 little to$$ers in the local area - the only problem now is that they can't go round and rough the little feckers up anymore.

This topic really grips my sh1t. For starters the fecking transport secretary (Darling) can't even drive!! :bad-words: If they wanted a fair way to tax road users then abolish road tax and stick all the duty on fuel - then you pay for your road use. I don't know exactly what the figures are but I think that motorists paid around £28 billion in road tax and fuel tax (Not including VAT on fuel) and the government spent around £7 billion of that on the road network. I think those figures are about 3 years old and petrol has skyrocketed since then which will inflate the VAT revenue as it goes. As for investing in public transport its a joke if you live outside of a major city, I used to work 21 miles from home 30 mins in the car or 2 hours and a change by bus and that was only during the day no good for shift workers! If they want to reduce road usage tax the school run - I always walked to school when I was younger but how many kids do you see walking now?? As for the GPS tracking they would use it to enforce speed limits as this would pull in more revenue for the thieving gets under the dubious 'safety banner' *Gets off box and puts down megaphone*

I am half expecting a case to crop up were one of these to**ers breaks into a car, injures themselves ripping the stereo out and then sues because the radio cage had sharp edges and they got an infection from it. Its all wrong, as far as I am concerned if you make a concious decision to break the law then you should lose all rights to protection within the law. Hope you get it sorted soon.

 Posted: Fri Jun 03, 2005 12:02 am -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- umm, just taking it all apart, where do those pipes end bulk head side!!!?? looks rather more involved than i first thought!!!!!????? Now that is hard core .. :salute: :thumbleft: :notworthy:

Greeny, as Jim said you can fix all of this with about days good work. You could try e-bay for a set of stalks or have a look and see who is breaking a car in the sales section and pm them. It does seem you have been quite unlucky and had all of the C's niggly faults occur at once, without wishing to jinx you is your spoiler still working?

Thats the one!

Don't know either but that Jag is having some serious HP drain! As a guess it would probably be a bit more than the drain of running aircon.. *Circling awaiting being shot down*

Guy you don't work for Castrol do you? :) Going to stick with the recommend oil as listed by VW, until I start having to top the oil up there is little point in putting a thicker grade in.
-
Wasn't there a vid of this guy having an accident on the same time around a while ago? Not sure whats crazier - the spectators right next to the track or the fact the car is 5 up!
-
The controller for the alternators needs to be replaced if you have lost a phase. The garage is most likely going to fit a new one and send the old 'new' one back for repair.
-
Sounds to me like you have lost a phase from the alternator.

Supercharged are you talking about the brown colour? If you are it looks like an anti-corrosion treatment to me. We use a chemical called allo-chrome on aircraft that dries that colour - it is designed for aluminium and is a spray on wipe off process. It also resists all sorts of nasty chemicals including jet fuel (Diesel with some extra additives!)

Off the top of my head you tighten the rear stub axle nut up until you can no longer move the thrust washer around using a screwdriver blade sat against the washer and a finger on the shaft of the screwdriver. I just drifted my rear bearings in using a large socket and a hammer - just make sure you keep it square in the hole. Think you will need about an 35mm socket to do this. Easiest way if you don't have one would be to take out the old bearing and go to Halfrauds and get one that is just a little bit smaller than the outer race. If you just swap the bearing over and not the discs and pads then as Phil said then you will need to drift out the old bearings as well - a large flat blade screwdriver will do just fine. Depending where you get your bearing from you will need some grease too! Make sure you use rubber gloves to handle the bearing as contact with skin can cause corrosion to occur and hence new bearing required.

Flowing involves blowing air into the component to see where there are swirls or turbulence that can be reduced/removed by removing casting marks, poor design etc. Smoke is added to the air so that your eye can see where turbulence is occuring. Its all fluid dynamics stuff, air is a fluid, and is percieved as a bit of a black art. The effect of having all that done is that as the air flows more efficiently is results in an increase in power, and in the case of a TB response of the engine. (If you go to WOT with a un-flowed and un-ported TB the suck in of the engine has to overcome the turbulence created by imperfections caused by manufacture this creates a bit of lag and reduces power) I think thats about right if not I am sure someone will correct it!
-
Well that is encouraging, glad I am spending time with a flapper wheel grinding the thing out then! Did you get the side of the TB that mates with the manifold gasket ported as well Dan?
