i've had a cable snap and needed to release both pins manually - now theres a task and a half!!!!! for the offside, as kev says, jack up and you can reach up and release that one. the hard one is the nearside cos you can't get it from below!!! the only way i found to do this was 1. remove the grill - not the easiest operation in itself with the bonnet shut and i think i snapped a couple of the top clips. 2. cut the plastic shroud on the radiator nearside to allow access toward the bonnet pin. 3. using newly created access route having cut the shroud, use a tie wrap or similar to loop around the spring metal retaining bar that retains the bonnet pin and pull, thus simulating the pull the cable would normally perform. A bit destructive but i can't really see any other way of doing this and its better than jemmying the bonnet !!!!

i have some 2.9 conrods lying around and someone locally is repairing or potentially repairing a 2.8 golf vr - are the conrods the same - as far as i'm aware, they are the same stroke etc aren't they?
-
have you got a H2O kit now kev? I'll have to sort one me thinks...
-
you can use scales on each corner or use a gauge like wots i have :) its in the background pic on the charger pic i posted - which i can't find at the mo - but its the same arrangement as this AHA!!!! Found it!!!!
-
for coilovers generally - people stick them on for cosmetic reasons generally not appreciating that the differing heights can seriously effect handling ie. the height effecting the weight on each wheel and therefore potential imbalance - hence, i've got coilovers and a cornerweight gauge to weigh the weight on each corner
-
go-on chris - i'll have to put you on commission :)
-
!!!??? i've got a cornerweight gauge but i'm too far away from you - i wouldn't agree with what you've been told mind - i'm sure theres a reasonable compromise to be had - get a fat arsed bint in the passenger seat and dual petrol tanks :)
-
just 99.9% eh, chris? :)
-
my daughter bought me some with the vw logo on - they;re on the rear belts where she sits but look quite tasteful - she tell me so....
-

-
why not?- are they all hairdressers cos i ain't come across one that'll play yet - isn't there a forum we can go to and do a bit of goading!!! :) Surely by now someone must have found a non-hairdresser mk5 driver (I'm doing my best here to get this thread linked into a mk5 forum ;) )
-

the position is totally relevant - the point was found roughly as you say but the point at which we drilled had a double skin or overlap and was totally relevant as i've drilled other bonnets - bear in mind i've had a few vr's - and if you get it wrong, theres insufficient thickness of metal to take a tap and the bonnet ball mount just flaps around and drops out - -
my mother has va+l in her name but she doesn't phone up vauxhall either :) - that statement has my head spinning - totally off the wall - which is where your coming from i spose. - anyway, when you going to fit that multi to your motor so we can vid and demo these kits, chris?
-
theres a lot of things well priced in that list.....
-
nice motor - bet it looks great in the sunshine - i can only imagine its hard to keep cars in good nick out there - from my time travelling around, i always fund the sorst places for bumps and dinks and scratches were italu/spain - some of the cleanest unmarked cars were in helsinki - constantly icy and slippy :)
-
the full setup came brand new-ish looked like they'd done delivery miles so i just chucked th std pads in that came with it - i know its far from ideal but i was excpecting better even with std!!?? maybe my cars just going too fast at the mo and i don't realise how quick i'm stopping :)

i can't remember having any bolt problems??!! Must have had some in the garage already........found it very straight forward, just want to get rid of the spongyness etc.....
