    Headlining cleaning?

Was that, "the carpet you can afford from Cyril Lord" ? Best wishes RB Oh dear, the old boys reminiscing  Sorry chaps. I find the best is Vanish spray or Ace bleach (non chlorine as per FurkiG60, ) Spray on lightly and give a gentle rub with a microfibre cloth. When its dry you can raise teh knap slighty by hoovering. Alternatively use a carpet shampoo spray that you can pick up from Lidl or Tescos. Hoover lightly afterwards to get the best finish. You'll find it also removes smells too.
  2. A40 into London, by Greenford flyover, black C at about 9.45 am? You were too quick so i couldnt see whether you were a VR or not. K-plate I think. sounded damn good as you blasted past.

    Spraying bumpers

    khurrado, pm sent bud
  4. Yep I use back to black on the tyres and some of the internal black trim. I woulkdnt use the ArmourAll as I beleive it doesnt contain any UV block hence your plastics will fade even faster. Theres another Turlte wax cream (black in a flash IIRC) which dyes teh fabric pretty damn quick but doesnt seem to stick very well on outside plastics. Good for the cabin trims though.
  5. randal_24, are you doing the manifold etc in situ or removed from the block? Will you also do the alternator etc (i guess you could get a fair finish on that by removing the airbox and using the drill?

Well RW1, its not running at the moment (not for the past several months in fact), but as I'm planning a gearbox swop in the summer I just want to change the tranny fluid and bring it to as normal a state as possible. Also if i can identify that the problem is only this strip I'll either do it or point it out to the person that buys the tranny. Its only done 50k miles so will prob be more useful to someone else. TBH I couldnt make much sense of the birdsnest by the tcm so decided to leave it alone - electrics are not my favourite area! In fact electrics and gearboxes!
  8. Did you stamp it out daves16v, or do it by hand? I guess the latter would be almost impossible to make absolutely straight and smooth, especially on the corners.
  9. I'm still stuck on something similar - VAGCOM hasnt picked up anything so I'l be calling an auto electrician to have a little look and hopefully diagnose the problem. Either that or get it towed to my local VW garage (NOT the dealer I hasten to add!)

    More dynamat fun

Kev, reallysuperb mate. I too am one for whom the quietness and refinement of the car is important. Where did you put the dynamat apart from teh sunroof? I think there was another thread about an alternative soundproofing which is pretty cheap and since I have the carpet out its probably a good time to have a go at it. I've also used a lot of felt around the plastic trims especially on the dash components but I am always listening out for the next rattle. Surprsingly cables that knock against panels make a racket so they need foam around them. Mines only got the normal stuff under the carpets and nothing else. I was thinking of using normal carpet underlay as I've still got loads left over. Any thoughts, advice there?

RW1, thanks very much for the details and i must sya very comprehensive judging by the time you posted it 1.19am! OK, i've got a few questions on these pints: 1. where is the ? Does this refer to the long black connector sitting on top of the gearbox next to the round diagnostics port? 2. How do i go through "Basic Settings" on the tranny? Is this where you turn the ignition to on without firing the engine, press and hold the throttle on the floor for about 20secs and then release and start the engine? I mentioned in a previous thread about the slight wheeze as it shifts from 3rd to 4th, so maybe this can be resolved by the Basic Settings procedure? Again, many thanks for the assistance.
  13. Mmmm nice. Nice lights too - FKs?

RW1, The codes were: 00518 - Throttle Position Sensor (G69) 16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent 00638 - Engine/Transmission Electrical Connection 2 03-10 - No Signal - Intermittent 00300 - Transmission Fluid Temp. Sensor (G93) 34-10 - No Elaboration Available - Intermittent I dont think theres anything the matter with the TPS - just fitted recently and run the car about 50 miles with it (mainly because its been off the road for several months as I havent had the time to have a better look at it). But that 00638 is a real pain and I'm not sure how to proceed with it. I'll be changing the tranny fluid next week hopefully although its only done 50k. TIA
  15. Aaah, so THAT'S what the new shape Corrado looks like.

RW1, thanks bud, will have a little look tonight see if i can find that damn loose connection "short to ground". Have you had this some up at all in a scan? If so what did you do? I'm gonna check the earths from the battery to the g/box and engine bulkhead, maybe give them a clean and then remove and clean the TCM connector. Would welcome any other advice.

Chaps Just need to know the position of the TCM for the C - its not under the back seats as I had them out to remove teh carpet. I believe its under the dash? What does it look like (pic would be useful, but a description would also suffice) as I need to check it for loose connections. Its a 94 VR (Mike VR6 can you remember anything about this?) TIA

    CAR THEFT

Same here. That's terrible mate. Some people dont want to work thwey want to ride on the effort of others. and what for? for laughs i guess. Pathetic kids who probably werent given the attention they should have by their parents (bloody hell sound like that Supernanny Jo Frost!) Hope something turns up soon bud and as was mentioned earlier all forum members will likely have their eyes peeled for you. On Ebay, a giveaway would be someone with a low trading record (low transactions indicating new name) selling corrado parts. Mine too! Wish you best of luck with a quick result.
  22. Kev, good idea - having said that whilst the 840 is pricey to run you can pick one up for about 8k. May be worth hanging on to (even tho you get about 12mpg) for a few years and reselling. You could also pop in one of their 3.0diesels into it. Its a big beasty but the diesel shouldnt be too hard to tune up. I do like the idea of the 540 tho, especially as the Missus doesnt like 2 door motors.
  23. Tricky one, been thinking about a BM 840Ci, 328i E36, or Alfa 156 2.0. Very different cars but each has its own appeal. 328 are quite cheap but sadly a bit common and with a somewhat negative reputation for association. Still love em tho - my dad has a 318i (E36) which i still find fantastic (and his is totally immaculate)

    Gearbox painting

Is it feasible to clean it up with a wire brush attachment in a drill and then simply degrease and spray? Can you also get a laquer that may also be gunk-proof?
  25. Would it also be possible to remove the calipers without removing the hose for refurb, thus avoiding bleeding of the brakes - reason i ask is i want to refurb my calipers too (clean and paint)? Sorry to hijack this slightly DEL VR6, !
