Or keep an eye on : http://www.suprnova.org/ It usually appears within a few days.

PhatVR6, are you still able to get schrick gasket sets? If so how much?
-
It does sound feasible that it could be a mix of airlocks and some residual oil still in the sytem. I know when the head had been off my 16v the level needed topped up a few times.
-
The passat manual that covers the 9A was discontinued and replaced with one that also includes newer passats. What were the reasons for getting the headgasket changed in the first place? Was it just oil in the water?
-
Its something along the lines of this in the right size ill use, as phatvr6 mentioned: http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=14590 Screws into spark plug hole, plug in air hose, valves now held in place by air pressure for a decent price.

I was going to try and get a hold of the fitting as I have a decent sized compressor in work. The head on my car has had a slight skim in the past when it was rebuilt 20k ago, would this be ok with the mk4 headgasket or would that bump up the compression a bit much / be a bit tight for clearance?

Cams are now on there way. :D Im pretty confident about swapping them over myself, but not sure on changing the springs. Will I need to replace any other parts or is it a case of rocker cover and inlet gaskets then everything else swaps over?
-
Hmm, just tried clicking it and it didnt work, seems ok if you right click and save target as to your hard drive first though.

Its an Adobe Acrobat file, you can install the reader for free here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Heres the fitting guide with some pics.

I reckon ill get the springs, with 4 trackdays this year and hopefully a lot more next I dont want to take any chances. I got a price on them from germany before and im sure it was nearer £75.
-
Just checked the schrick catalogue and they only list 1 set of 268 cams for the 12v vr6, so looks like im on to a winner. Did you go for the uprated valve springs when you got yours fitted Kev?

Are they the same betweem obd1 and obd2 engines? The same as in they fit between either, not profile.

That statement made me panic, I've a set waiting to go on, from a Mk4. Etka states Mk3 and 4 are the same carrier; as well as passat, and a range of Audi's. I am reading ETKA the wrong way? As a few have mentioned, my mistake, sorry. Calipers and carriers are the same, just the disks that are different.
-
The golf (gti,16v,vr6) brakes were upgraded in '96 just as production of the corrado stopped. The disks are slightly bigger and thicker, but the caliper is a lot bigger and houses pads of about double the size. The calipers are still used on vag cars with the 288mm setup today. The carriers and disks have to come from the mk3 due to the offset on them, pads calipers and hoses from any 288 setup. They are a vast improvement over standard, more bite and much more fade resistant. After 3 and a 1/2 hours at Knockhill, my pedal was softer, but I could still get the abs kicking in.

Id say remove it yourself and send it to Darren at G-Werks, afaik the vw places in Scotland send the chargers to Jabba, or they used to. Not sure now though.

Lachs silver I beleive its called. 8)

The first graph shows 175.5@12degrees C Last one shows 161@26degrees C Now its been pretty cold today, probably less than 12 degrees, if the rollers had been set too 12 or less then there wouldnt be as high a correction factor added as there was, giving a lower figure. Basically what im trying to say is the temps today were probably similar or less than when you had the first run done and you had 175.5, today it was probably a bit less than 160, so it doesnt sound to me like its a temperature issue causing the lower readings.
-
More bad news then, if the temp was set too high then the rollers will be overreading.

If there like SPECS cameras in that they measure the average speed between 2 or more of them then the calibration wont be an issue.

am i doing the right thing selling my vr6
Joe M replied to jedi-knight83's topic in General Car Chat
I think you should sell it. You clearly want a change, I was in the same position a few months ago, car up for sale, people interested. I decided to keep it and spent more on coilovers and arb's, was happy for a while and am now thinking I want to sell again. -

Timo., John Mitchell (16vg60) also does a kit for mounting either in front of the rad or in the same place the g60 has the intercooler. Not sure on price but it may be slightly cheaper than Stealth. Im gonnae order one when hes got the solid front engine mounts ready.

The bracket can be removed from the car, 2 bolts. I done this, cut the metal bit the rubber goes round off, then put a bolt through it.
