  1. nice one!............so you picked it up i take it?
  2. your KONI's will swap right over.........as my KONI's are also applicable to both MK3 16v GTi and VR6's and as for offset can't remember off-hand  but its either ET 38 or 43
  3. cheers mate........i'm sure yer storm isn't as bad as what you think......mine as i've mentioned before is needing some paint to the front(bumper/wings/bonnet/mirrors....and of course my new kamei grille spoiler 8) ) so its not as good "up close and personal" as what the pics maybe looklike.....though there is no Photo-chop involved :D right the discs i have on mine at the front are Ate power grooves these are available from Euro-car-parts and are £27.50+vat ea and the Ate pads are only £15.25+vat and their glasgow branch normally has them in stock too..........Ate is an O/E supplier too so they are top quality and look a bit more expensive than original discs with their grooves....they also do seem to have a bit extra "bite" over the standard ones.....their only downside is your wheels get dirtier a bit quicker i had my alloys refurbished at Coattech Coatings in Carnoustie......they powder-coated them using a "silver-sparkle" effect finish to them and i'm very chuffed with the way they look especially in sunlight........cost per wheel was approx £40-ish......IMHO money well spent
  4. i would also take the water-temp guage's reading with a pinch of salt too...........my water temp guage reads upto 110 deg if idling in traffic quite a lot.....had me s****** myself for ages until i had ess_three hook up his VAG-COM and had the real temp values shown*........when my water guage was reading 110 deg it was actually only 97deg by VAG-COM when the fans cut in it took it down to 92 deg on VAG-COM which was just under 100 on the water guage......if you can get someone with VAG-COM to hook it up to your car you'll be able to see how accurate your water temp guage is..............*providing of course VAG-COM is accurate
  5. someone call me   dsdev,.............seriously A/C as far as i'm aware was only a dealer-fit option(that very few dealers actually offered) and not a factory-fit option from Karmann on RHD later cars at least.....also every Corrado is a Karmann edition........all of them should still have the "karmann" badge between the handbrake and G/knob except of course the "storm".........they were built there   leather was just an option on all Corrado's save for the "campaign" and "storm"which had leather as standard............ your idle sounds about right tbh......as the C VR6 idles at approx 650rpm +/-50 IIRC.....although its not the smoothest of idling engines at the same time it shouldn't feel like its about to stall....its maybe because you are not used to the engine's characteristics  anyway hth and welcome to the forum
  6. right here's a pic of what i believe to be a factory-equipped A/C US-spec Corrado......the reason i think this is factory is the "legend" on the HVAC panel looks to be using a VW-style font......and also i would imagine that all US-spec ones had A/C fitted as standard.....so it was either done at Karmann or the US importers though also if you have the Corrado owners manual i'm pretty sure it shows you the factory A/C controls
  7. Sh*t is it really that much over here :!: :?: :!: good job i got mine done in the states then! it cost about 20 dollars! had it done in Dubai when i first got the car in 98' too and that only cost me 4 quid!! sorry mate was just basing it on what i was quoted 8 years ago to recharge my A/C on my 944 turbo......its maybe come down a bit.....especially with the ammount of motors with A/C now
  8. check when he last had the A/C recharged.........if its not been done in the past 2(????) years or so.......then try and knock a couple of hundred off......as i think the going rate for a recharge is about £100-ish......and of course it might be leaking too.....also check BOTH heated seats work......otherwise you could be looking at replacing the heat-pads at approx £100 per side
  9. if i had to put it up for sale(which like others i have no intention of doing)i wouldn't take less than £7.5k for mine...........not that i'm saying £7.5k is the "market" or "book" value just what i would let my go for
  10. no.....nothing(other than badges) states its a storm the only real way(other than if it has the mystic blue colour code on the sticker) to tell if its a storm or not is to phone VW's customer care and quote the Vin/chassis number and they will confirm what it was sold as

    Extra MFA info.

i'll move this into common corrado questions..........not really a servicing issue
  12. in my porsche owning days, there was no porsche dealer up in aberdeen and the nearest official Porsche centre was in perth approx 80 miles away.........anyway every so often they would do a free 75-point health-check on your Porsche and while you were waiting they would take you out in their demo cars..........so one time when i was waiting this older guy approached me and we started chatting about Porsches i told him that i only had a 924S and that my favourite Porsche was the 928.....to which he said well i suppose we can let you have a drive of that brand spanking new 928 GTS sitting just outside 8) ......turned out that i had been speaking to the actual managing director of the Douglas Cameron Group which had the Porsche franchise.............anyway i couldn't believe my luck that here was i a mere 24 yo driving a £74k motor which i could never have afforded and getting to blat about like i had just bought it.........one of the best 30 min drives of my life...........though believe it or not.....its not the dearest motor i've driven......that goes to the brand new Volvo FL7 REL(rear-end loader)8 wheeler that i had to drive back to glasgow after my in-laws waste management company had finished hiring it........it was a mere £160k+ so come on whats the dearest set of wheels you've all driven?
  13. so come all you out there lets here what cars you have nearly bought and then wisely rejected.....here's a list of some that i test-drove and thought about buying Opel Monza 3.0E........W-reg and i was a mere 19yo.....can you imagine the insurance let alone the fuel bills    Escort 1600i convertable............just months after buying my B-reg XR3i i spotted this A-reg beauty thought real long and hard about it too........but the fact that my insurance broker actually knew the car and warned me about potential problems helped save the day Sierra RS cosworth 3dr........just when the insurance was getting cheaper i spotted this beauty at a local citroen garage of all places.......it had under 60k miles too FSH and was pretty immaculate.....all for a bargain £5k!!!!.....BUT needed a new clutch, wasn't under any warranty and i was always hankering after a 944 turbo.......actually quite regret passing this one by as it would have still kept its money......insurance was working out to be the same as what i would be paying on a 944 turbo.....which i bought just 5 months later BMW 328i coupe(E-36)......took this for a test-drive on a wet and windy winter's evening.........so nice sideways action  and some in-gear performance too  would have bought if it was A) a sport and B) was getting more for my trade-in BMW MINI Cooper......just before i looked at my storm i test drove a MINI and was in 2 minds whether to go for something brand new or go for a C........main attraction was the fact it would have been the 1st batch in Aberdeen and the 5years TLC package but the spec i wanted meant £14k-£15k   and the cooper S was not that far away either......and like all New Niche fillers they would be common as muck within a year and i would yearn for more than 115bhp in the end i think ive made the right decision with the C
  14. a few others......apologies if someone has already mentioned *VR6's have distributors til approx 1993 then coil-packs which can cause problems *94> have the smaller front lip-spoiler *standard wheels are 15 inch with 6j-6.5j widths 1.8 16v's normally have sebring alloys.....BBS x-spokes were optional 1.8 G60's available with either sebring's or more commonly the BBS's 2.0 8v's come with a 5 spoke design........soft-spokes????? 2.0 16v's available with estorils and also later ones could be had with the same alloys as the 8v 2.9VR6's available with monte-carlo's(very early & campaign),speedlines(predominatly),solitudes(storm-only)and also optional BBS x-spokes(quite rare) *G60 only available as LHD til late 1990 H-plate onwards *G60 & VR6 SLC only models available in US both with auto transmission option thats all i can think of at the moment
  15. normally parks in talisman's car-park  btw golf colour concepts and golf vr6 highlines were also solitude equipped from new
  16. 1.8 16v - early body shape/interior 2.0 16v - late body shape/interior G60 - upto late 1991 - early body shape/interior G60 - from late 1991 - late body shape/early interior VR6 - late body shape/interior ? you can also get the 2.0 16v with the late body shape but early interior......as with very early VR6's including the "campaign"
  17. Ryk,its probably one of the "joys" of having a storm in that if you take the solitudes away from it (unless its mystic blue) then it more or less loses its identity as a storm......if i were you i would get the solitudes reconditioned and maybe do something very subtle with them......for example i have mine finished with a silver-sparkle effect which is pretty nice in sunlight(even if i do say so myself)........i've also seen them finished in an anthracite effect(so it hides brake dust) though i reckon that this effect is really best pulled off with a mystic blue stormat the end of the day reconditioning them will be a lot cheaper than buying new wheels...........the decision is up to you
  18. that'll be cheesy that you're after
  19. mk3 GTi's and above(16v and VR6)................original Mk3 GTi alloys are pretty cheap to come by too though you can't use 5-stud Passat wheels as they have a different PCD
  20. ok tom quite a informative topic you've got started there others i can think of in no order of importance are *all VR6's and 2.0 16v's should have abs and traction control as standard *although you mention it later on..........under the timing belts you should perhaps stress "exl VR6's" *All euro-spec and UK model VR6's should have the ABV engine-coded VR6 unit *pedal switch can also be an abs problem area *the thermal fuse remedy for the heater blowing only on setting 4 *storms only from April 1995 and classic green/beige leather and mystic blue/black leather only colour combos for a storm and UK market only *headlights for early models are £60+vat and £99+vat for later complete units *dusty mauve-campaign-only colour and mystic blue storm-only colour *all 4 cylinder(2.0 8v,1.8 16v,2.0 16v and 1.8 G60) models have 4-stud hubs and all VR6's have 5-stud hubs *both 16v's and 2.0 8v's have 256mm front discs(4 stud) *G60 and VR6 both have 280mm front discs(4/5 stud) thats all i can think of matey and good luck with it......looks like it'll be an essential guide to have
  21. how can you not like the Corrado mirrors??? afterall they're good enough for TVR and the Mclaren GT-R
  22. the cheapest i priced up an original VW front wing was £140+vat
  23. cool........better lock this up then
  24. please keep this to PM's.........the forum doesn't want to condone piracy
  25. Koni coil-overs on my wagon
