  1. try a chap called martin at V-A-G parts on 01322 338833.....he should be able to help and he's normally quite a bit cheaper than VW dealers for proper VW parts
  2. i take it this "storm" had a private plate?.......otherwise it wouldn't be a storm......M-reg onwards you see
  3. funnily enough "hammond" said it was a 88(E-34) series 2............well as it was on a N-plate it couldn't have been an 88 could it  ...............really disapointed they didn't show either the original E-28 M5(85-88 ) which tbh was THE first mega performance BMW saloon or the even classier looking M635csi(aka M6) just wish they put more research into these things
  4. right the VR is not too much of a biggie service wise........but it does thrive on regular oil and filter changes........the VW interval is every 10k miles or 12months whichever is sooner...........i get my oil changed at least every 5k miles but spark plugs are meant to be changed every 20k miles using NGK's or 40k miles if you use the NGK platinums coolant is meant to be changed every 2 years (only use VW's own coolant G11 or now G12+) as is brake fluid(which is also your clutch fluid-hydraulic clutch etc) fuel-filter hasn't really got a service interval as such........but again i would have this changed every 2years air filter........get a K&N panel filter and clean/re-oil every 50k miles.....make sure its thoroughly dried before re-installing S-belt(or serpentine belt) is meant to be changed at 60k.......£25 for the belt alone but 30-45 mins tops labour and in case you are unaware........the VR6 has no timing belt just a timing chain which is meant to last the life of the car though people do replace if they get noisy or have the G/box off or are rebuilding the engine
  5. i'm a bit sceptical about this later mk3 Golf (apart from the LHD-only synchro)more than 174bhp power figure...........afterall why didn't VW broadcast it :?:
  6. its not going to be as refined round town as the standard set-up but its very refined on the open road and twisties

    G60 Water Pump

well not exactly  he did ask how "big a job" it was........which is also what most people ask garages etc when they are doing work on their motors so you can interpret it as both

    G60 Water Pump

My point was that changing the waterpump, although a longish job, is not technically a difficult one and does not require nearly as much expertise or equipment as playing around with the timing. fair doos  ......but as you'll notice in my first reply i did mention that "most competant garages" will be able to do this so wasn't really physically meaning that GUS would be doing it himself although it might have seemed i was advocating him to do so himself.............the joys of the internet i suppose can sometimes become a bit like chinese whispers

If there is no history or sign of the timing belt being replaced then this will need doing regardless of the condition of the waterpump. G60's can be a real b*****d to time up correctly. Even when the belt is replaced in the correct position, it often alters the timing slightly. The G60 timing proceedure is a real pain in the arse. i'm well aware of it being something to be done ASAP if there is no sign of it being done  regardless if you have to change a water-pump or not  .....what i was saying/meaning is that if you are going to be changing the waterpump then its perhaps a good time to change the timing belt as you will be working in the same vicinity
  10. mmmmmmm BMW 3.0 CSL 8)............and the M1 and M3(e-30) 8) 8) 8) 8)
  11. you'll be back.........mark my words  .............once you've been bitten by the Corrado virus.....you won't be able to last too long without one  anyway keep us posted on how you get on with the avant.....nice looker too btw

no no no......allow me
  13. looking good............if you have a look here http://corrado.atx-hosting.co.uk/viewto ... 8536#38536 you'll see how a classic green storm looks like sans 4x4 standard suspension......believe me its probably the best thing you can get done to it......mine has koni coilovers and handles a lot lot better than the standard set-up  as for the standard sony......its decent enough for the age but there are also different sound settings for it so maybe worth playing about with it......but as you say you'll be listening to the VR6's own soundtrack so who needs tunes i also had flaky wheels but i had them blasted and powder-coated with a silver-sparkle finish which is very subtle but IMHO looks damn nice 8) especialy when the sun is shining 8) 8) i had mine done by Coatech Coatings in Carnoustie.....which i imagine is a bit out of the way for you????

    G60 Water Pump

A real bummer of a job mate - alternator off & charger off just to get near it. No requirement to touch the timing belt though. i know there isn't a requirement to change the timing belt......but as you are working around that area you are as well getting the timing belt changed at the same time are you not????especially if there is no sign of it being replaced recently
  15. is it a 1.8 16v or a 2.0 16v????? as that might help people point you in the right direction
  16. yeah but as the standard VR6 is rated at 190bhp and 181lb/ft(can't remember the nm value)a turbo'd  VR would be quite a beast(ok a very expensive one)with an amazing soundtrack which i'm sure you'll be the first to admit the 20v T is exactly blessed with
  17. TBH.....i don't think milltek list any system for the 1.8 16v......and you'd be looking at quite a bit more than £300+ just for the manifold alone
  18. very good figures you got there................but Golf VR6's are rated at "only" 174bhp......though at the end of the day its all just a calculation and really is just a rough guide to the power you have or have not nevertheless your figures are pretty good for standard

........and here is the thermostat price too.....again from VW and VAT to be added thermostat All models excluding 2.9i VR6.......044121113......£7.00
  20. i think beetlebug is meaning cos he never had a cat fitted where will the system start from.......
  21. TBH unless you lie(which by the way i'm not condoning)there is very little hope of you getting it under £1k

    G60 Water Pump

going by the VW partsclub website(which is really on available to VWCCGB members)here is the part number and full retail price for the waterpump....+VAT of course as for fitting most competent garages should be able to do this no problem.........might be an idea to get the timing belt changed at the same time if it hasn't been done recently as they will be into that area of the engine.......i reckon approx 3 hours labour at the most.......maybe less  waterpump All models excluding 2.9i VR6.........037121010BX...........£28.30
  23. i'm afraid much as you want to get a Corrado........because of your DD conviction you'll be looking at seriously big quotes especially as you (AFAIK) have to tell the insurance company up to 10 years after the conviction too(i also think it stays on your license for as long)........in fact £1600 TPF&t doesn't seem too bad considering the the conviction and lack of no-claims.......by all means try EVERY company for insurance but don't expect miracles........anyway good luck
  24. its an early "later" facelift thing.......AFAIK they changed to the plain black plastic(non-corrado marked)sill trim in 93/94 edit so its possible to get an early interior 92> "vr6-bonnet" C with this as well as a later interior one but only to between 93/94
