I reckon Golfs are slightly more chuckable, well mine is with the coilies and uprated arbs, plus i don't care that much about it as its a bag of sh1te and my track car. The C gets a caning but seeing it's to low at the back, it scrubs so I am wincing everytime i hit a bump hard.

The Rado would have been fine for that, no problem, they would have been able to drive it home.

£1500 would have bought a reasonable 16v to do the job they wanted. at the end of th day they buy nails and a G reg 16v would have beaten all those motors. Would have been good for 130mph and would have been reliable enough to beat the Jag and BM. Having said that would front wheel drive been any good for the final race?

How about NOS, that could be fitted with the initial 25 bhp jets for in the region of £1k. If that works you just buy them in stages of 50 bhp, 75 bhp etc.

how to change charger timing belt and rsr outlet
Rustynuts replied to billinjah's topic in Engine Bay
They are screws that hold the two halves together, however the bottom two are right gits to get to, so could do what i do and take a hammer to the box and break it up to get to the mounting bolt. -
Mate runs it in his Rallye, one of the best ways of cooling charge and runs well in G60's. Def considering this route as i can switch on the extra power just when i need it. 200 bhp is enough for general day to day driving.

Also bear in mind that your remote oil cooler is cooled by air flow, so when sitting in traffic its going to run warmer.

Highest Millage in one Calender Year
Rustynuts replied to CorradoWannabe's topic in General Car Chat
Hmm well i try to keep the long distance stuff to the 1.8 8v Gti that my gf now drives. Keeping the C miles to a minimum seeing its a thirsty old girl and also the other Golf is limited to 4500 miles a year on classic insurance. I bought said Gti with 110000 miles on the clock in Jan 2001, now its approaching 190,000 miles and on its 3rd engine. None of the previous engines were changed due to major engine destruction. I think my record was 24,000 miles in a year when i was doing 50 miles a day to work and the gf lived in london. -
My car ran really well with the lambda sensor disconnected on my G force chip, on my SNS chip it ran badly below 3000 revs (my SNS chip is old and its not really set up for my car). Now i have changed the sensor it does not run so well with the G force chip and SNS chip is still bad. Only problem with running without the lambda is that it will overfuel.

I don't see how this is easily possible. You would be better off going the tried and tested route of the 4 cylinder 1.8T route that is both newer and capable of good power. Fair play for thinking of something different though.

I went for the weekend, drove down fri and we stayed in some lodges which are tops and better than camping. I only went saturday and agree that the show on the whole was a bit pants. Quite happy i got some German Plates done and also picked up a couple of other bits and pieces. Saw 16v G60 as stated above too, i wish i could have worked out who John was as I would have stopped for a chat. Met IHIG60 whose Corrado was the turbo'd one in the Jabba tent. Very impressed with that conversion and it has got me thinking for sure.

On the A14 coming away from Inters, a burgundy/ wine red VR N reg i think with large wheels, could have been Audi Wheels. I was in my black Mk2 8v. I overtook this car and then had to stop for fuel so caught up again and as i followed the A14 this car went off northbound following signs for the A1

Simple job really, the changing of a Lambda sensor on a G60. So when i get under the car i find that the thing moved slightly but not a lot. The car has a Cat bypass by the way. So decide that if i undo the 3 bolts connecting to the downpipe i would get better access by dropping the pipe down a bit. Still won't budge!! Thinking that i might remove the decat pipe, i try removing it but it does not want to budge from the rest of the exhaust. So i have left the car up in the air tonight as i have had enough of it. My next plan is to angle grind the top of the sensor off so i can then get a 22mm socket over it and use the breaker bar on it. Only problem is that the sensor is obviously cross threaded and whether i am going to get another one in there afterwards.

Thats a bit like my 1.9 8v Golf with its silly tall box, 100 mph @ 4k revs anyone? Returns about 32mpg.
-
If you calculate your MPG according to your avatar i am not surprised, i suggest starting your engine for real figures and not pushing the bugger ;) Not got round to fitting my new lambda sensor yet but have found not having one of the rear brakes binding does tend to help fuel consumption

It makes you realise that having a good local VW specialist is important. I use http://www.vwrescue.co.uk, if your a midlands person and need somebody reliable and knowlegable as well as an enthusiast (ask him about what he is doing to a Golf synchro!) you can't go wrong. -
All good info, reckon i will just order one from the above site.
-
Getting the discount could be a problem. My local VW specialist can get them for about £70 plus VAT from VAG

Are you sure its not the bearings going on the alternator pulley?
-
Can you use a generic one on a G60 as they are not that expensive. Or shall i bite the bullet and buy one off here. The one for the Corrado G60 looks wrong as mine is a 4 plug, however there is one for the Golf G60 that has a 4 plug so its prob this one that i need.

Takes 2 mins to pull this off and measure it, would just check this first before you worry about other things
