  2. Ant, that's gotta suck... I feel for ya mate, yr about due some good luck about now i reckon!
  3. kill kill kill them all... harsh? no, fair...
  4. Man, that sucks... It's never the big things, but the little niggles that eventually wear you down... Persevere though mate, it's what sets us apart from the chav Saxo brigade that throw tantrums until Daddy fixes it...! [/crass generalisations] ;)
  5. Am gonna be contacting the council/housing association to see about renting a garage for a month or so, so hopefully that'll pan out...! When/what's the Harewood show...?
  6. Hmmm, I'd err on the side of caution - you really don't want to risk your 'rado going the same way that US Mk4 Golf did!
  7. Cheers for the responses guys - Gavin, I was hoping you'd be one of them! My Passat does have aircon, and I'd want to keep it too, so it's a good thing I've been offered the aircon compressor, pipes and (importantly) bracketry from a G60 that had the aircon removed... My immediate problem is that it looks like I will have nowhere to store the G60 whilst breaking it :( , and nowhere to keep the engine til I can do the swap... Which pretty much sucks, but hey, if it's meant to be then it'll be; if not, then life will just carry on anyway!
  8. Well, it looks like I may potentially be in a position to do a G60 swap into the Passat, but I need to realistically weigh up the situation as I don't want to get myself into a situation that I can't afford to get out of... I'd be sourcing myself the complete contents of a Corrado G60 engine bay, but really need to know if this is going to be as plug-n-play as everyone says it is, as I really can't afford for the car to be off the road for very long at all... I know the engine mounts will be exactly the same, and that the driveshafts will pop straight in, but my main concern is the wiring issue. Obviously the only G60 Passats ever made were LHD, so I can't get the loom from one of them as the fusebox will be on the wrong side - but will the Corrado's looms a)be the right dimensions, and b)simply plug into the fusebox in place of the standard loom? And does anyone know if the coolant hose connctions on the 2.0 8V engines are the same as the PG engine? What sort of timeframe would I be looking at to do the swap, and is it actually within my capabilities, as previous to this, I've not done anything more than basic servicing (brakes, exhausts, cooling system ;), that sort of stuff)? I just want to make sure I'm not going to be making an expensive mistake by starting something that I have to pay someone else to finish as I just don't have the money for that! Cheers guys!
  9. Nope, the K&N part number you need is 33-2032 :)
  10. I know the VR stat is slightly different to the 4-cyl ones, but dunno if it's more expensive... Get a genuine VAG one though, should only be about £15 or so... EDIT: VAG part number for a VR stat is 075 121 113 D, if that helps...
  11. Man, that sucks... I got utterly stressed at a minor cooling problem on mine so I can't even begin to imagine how gutted you are... I'm not going to say don't break it, like everyone else will, cause only you know how you feel about the car... At the end of the day, you can feel proud of what you've achieved thus far - you've done more to your car than most of us ever will! Can you not portion part of the blame onto VW and try and reclaim some of the cost of a new VC from them?
  12. See, now that looks great... Always bear in mind that you have a car that 99% of people on here would utterly love to own, and I think you can be proud of all the hard work... Still going gold on the RS's?
  13. If the top rad hose is boiling hot yet the bottom one's cold then that would point to a duff stat... If the VR stat is at the bottom of the engine like all the others, that is...!
  14. Man, that's gotta suck... Hope you manage to get it sorted without too much hassle...
  15. Well, at the RR day, I did notice that the offside front weel was wobbling slightly - though when I had them balanced, the garage said they weren't out of true, so I'm hoping it's just the fact that when the wheels were refurbed, they sprayed the mounting face... Gonna take the paint off when I get a chance, and see if that improves matters...
  16. Cheers for the suggestions, will pop over to the motor factors nr my work today and see what they have...!
  17. Hmmm, according to a list I found: LD8V = dark brown metallic ?????
  18. Errrrr, I think if you look on p1, JT said his real-world budget was around £5k tops, so that rules out most of those!
  19. IIRC, Hella never made any aftermarket rear lights for the Corrado - otherwise most people on here would probably be using them!

    new hoses

If you can get someone in the States to buy this and ship it over as a "gift" (to avoid the import duty!), then Bahn Brenner Motorsport do a really nice metal charger hose kit - Click here Anywhere in the UK that deals with G60s like g-werks or Pitstop Developments should be able to source you a Samco or similar coolant hose kit for the G60... Et voila, instant loveliness under the bonnet!
  21. Nobody? Hmmm, might just have to go ask my friendly local bodyshop then! :)

    new hoses

No idea about the hoses, but as for the engine bay... Have a look in Yellow Pages and ring round a few car valeters to see if any of them do engine bay steam cleaning - one of the best £15 I've spent on the Passat! If they do it properly, they'll cover the alternator and alarm when they do the steam clean, and they should dress all the plastic and hoses afterwards too... Then pop down to your local diy store and get some green-top Nitromors, a metal brush drill attachment, and some fine wire wool, take the rocker cover off, get the paint off it with the Nitromors, and polish it up with the drill attachment, then the wire wool, and finish up with a good polish with Autosol. Makes the world of difference, trust me!
