ISV needs cleaning...?
-
Red or black? New Mod Phil K and I tinted the top halfs of our lights red (he's not fitted his though) - if you do a search there's a wealth of info on how to do it! If you can't be arsed to trawl through all the results, PM me and if I'm feeling generous I'll write back with instructions... ;)

Hmmm, well if you can get some silver paint that's a really good match, you could sand it back a bit, use ally filler paste, then just blow over it with the spray - paint would have to be a damn good match though... That's if the centre caps are metal, which I'm assuming they are?

Right, have decided to simply replace the factory oil cooler with a new one, and stick in a Neuspeed stat to keep the coolant temp down (which hopefully will arrive today 'cos I'm doing the work tomorrow afternoon... So: any advice on changing the cooler? Is it just the hex key bolt on top of the mounting that holds it on, or is it secured differently? Oh, and anyone know where the coolant temp sender for the gauge is 'cos I'm replacing that as well... Ta muchly! :)

Need Name of Place selling German Style Plates at inters???
gradeAfailure replied to rado-steve's topic in Suppliers Forum
I got mine from Dubmeister, and did have to wait aaaaaaaaaaaaaaages for them but they now have their own pressing machine (as seen at Inters) so that should be a thing of the past... As for quality issues, I'm happy enough with mine, but if the ones from http://www.germanplates.com are less money for the same/better quality, then you'd be daft not to go for theirs! YPYM, YTYC! :) -

http://www.dubmeister.co.uk - that's "meister", not "weiser" btw... ;) -
All I can say is... At least she's running well now! Give 'em hell...
-
Yeah, my tool kit was missing a couple of things so I went to the scrappy and got a complete tool kit out of another Passat (look for an 88-92, and Passats are a good bet as they're generally owned by old farts who keep the tools with the car... ;)) for only a fiver! You should have: Jack + winding handle Wheel brace with double-ended screwdriver in one end Separate double-ended screwdriver Possibly a small spanner of some sort, but it's cold outside and I have beer so I'm not going to look now! All in a moulded plastic tray, with a rubber securing strap

I got bought some Connolly(sp) leather feed/wax, which I gave to the valeters when they did the car - seems to have softened the leather up nicely and I had that new-leather smell for a couple of weeks too! Not sure how expensive it is though... If the leather is fed and becomes more supple, then the indentation mark should kind of smooth out I reckon...
-
Yeah, I'm thinking it might well be the ISV too, but I don't know where they're located on the valvers, sorry! Though Jay has a point with the sudden-ness of it pointing to a vacuum pipe having come off...

Oooooooooooh, Dave like shiny! Heheh, my brakes next then? ;) Good Work Fella... -
Ah, right... :) :thumbleft:

So what's the deal with ditching the water/oil cooler then - as in, how to go about it? g-man said to use the MK1 GTi sandwich plate as it has the two oil lines coming off it to go to a air/oil cooler (Mocal or otherwise), but what to do about the coolant hoses that normally go to the factory oil cooler...?
-
Weeeelll, it don't matter cos you're gonna be bidding on them Borbet As in Deutschland soon, aren't you...? Only 7hrs to go though... ;)
-
That was actually my next thought...! Though I was speaking to g-man at No-Rice about fitting a MK1 Golf GTi sandwich plate and air-oil cooler, so this may have to be investigated, along with a Neuspeed stat to keep the water temp down a bit too...
-
Looking very good - what pen/paint did you use? And I'll own up to liking the yellow fogs!
-
Yeah, kinda look a bit like the Leon Cupra R wheels, me like...

Coolant ran out! What mixture of g12+ and water shoul i use?
gradeAfailure replied to khurrado's topic in Engine Bay
I generally use a 2:1 mixture of water to coolant - you shouldn't use more than a 1:1 mix as it'll lose its cooling efficiency... No idea about the cause of the leak though, but unless it's the head gasket you should be able to see white crystalline deposits where the coolant's escaping... -
Errr, mine has the 2E engine which is an 8V, so not sure if those stat numbers are correct... And the thermostatic switch I'm after is the one that screws into the lower right (as you look at the car) corner of the rad... Cheers for looking though! Edit: ah yes, part # 15 on that last drawing!
-
Hmmm, can't see the fan thermoswitch in the rad anywhere on those, but the stat itself is item # 12 on passat_pic4 Cheers!
-
Relating to my ongoing cooling issues, could some kind lovely person with ETKA please check for me if the part numbers for the thermostat and fan thermoswitch are the same for a '92 Passat 2.0 with aircon compared to one without...? I'll buy ya a beer for yr troubles as I really need to know this!

The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
gradeAfailure replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Got very irritated after draining, flushing, and refilling the coolant for a third time and still not getting the engine to run cool; very nearly put a lump hammer through the windscreen just to teach the damn thing a lesson... Grrr. -
Pretty damn sure - it's not ever made any untoward noises, and the hot coolant seems to be pretty evenly distributed through the engine bay - the fan starts blowing out warm air after about three mins or so... Having said that, is there any sure fire way of checking? Surely if it was dead then it's be the coolant temp that was waaay to high, not the oil temp?
-
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: I don't know any expletives strong enough for how I feel right now... Drained the cooling system - again. Flushed the system (rad, block, and matrix separately) - again. Checked thermostat in pan of water - again. Fitted it all back together and refilled the coolant (G12+ this time) - again. Filled the oil up to the max mark as well... Let her idle til she came up to temp - 85deg coolant/100deg oil Went for a drive.... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Exactly as it was before! 90deg constand coolant temp, when it was 80 before I started all this, and 128deg oil temp, when it was 118 before... What the hell is going on?! Mind you, when I got back and turned off the engine, at least this time the bottom rad hose was nearly as hot as the top hose. No airlocks either, as I'm getting good hot air from the heater. And the cooling fans Stage1 came on at 93deg coolant just like they should... Anyone want to buy a Passat? Think I saw a nice cheap Y-reg Polo for sale locally for £200...
