  1. Just been to the scrappy today, so gonna resurrect this thread! Got a heater control panel off a Seat Toledo (with aircon too!) along with its cigarette lighter - bring on the beginning of the conversion to red illumination! And to think I thought that doing the heater controls would be the hardest bit!
  2. Haha, cheers dinkus! ;) I also have a sister who's a photography student (thanks, in part, to Phil K) who took that second shot, hence the result...!
  3. Welcome to the forum! From what I hear, Jim's G60 is a beaut, so hope you enjoy it! 8)
  4. OK, so here's me attempting to look cool whilst dj-ing at the pre-Reading Festival club night at the Rivermead last year...! And the one of me currently earning a 9.4 rating on HotOrNot  Damn there must be some really ugly people out there... ;)
  5. 3.5?! WTF? Bl00dy chav rude-boys, grrrrr.....
  6. You know, I think I've finally found the look I want for the Passat... ;)
  7. Yeah, cheers Neil - mine's the same (must be that VW dark metallic pink, eh mrbeige? ;)), so reckon I'll be giving that a go soon...
  8. Ha ha, yeah - I made the mistake of telling my MD that "that turbo-diesel Corsa van's not too bad if you keep it floored during gear changes to keep the turbo spinning"! I'll get me P45...
  9. Sen's there too now...! 8) http://www.ismycarhotornot.co.uk/16032.htm Nice to see the dubs getting proper scores...
  10. Welcome to the forum, car looks absolutely sweet...!
  11. My bad - have just been playing around with them and have noticed that the cathode elements have a wire running down the side of them which will be at a rather high voltage  so I don't think you'll be able to fit them behind the dash as they're a bit too bulky otherwise... Sorry! Kev, cheers for that, reckon I might get some to light my footwells! Green to match the illumination, or red to match the car?
  12. I'll try and get a pic over the weekend... The cathodes are probably a bit big to fit behind the dash (I was gonna use mine to light the footwells - too tacky?) but have just discovered that the light units come apart, and the cathode element itself is 110mm long and only 5mm in diameter, so it might well fit... I say just buy 'em anyway - they're not exactly gonna break the bank!
  13. I bought some of these in blue and in red for work - they are cheap and cheerful, but they aren't too flimsy and they do the job! The blues were brighter than the reds, but not sure how the purples will look... 8)
  14. Some one who reads FastCar doesn't deserve a 'Rado! (bit of a crass generalisation there, sorry!) Considering show season's coming up, I'd say take it to the shows and put it up for sale there - reckon you have more chance of selling it that way... It's always a shame to have to part with something that you've devoted not just money, but time to... Still, needs must when the devil drives, and all that... Good luck!
  15. That gauge that's been bodged into the clocks looks like it's out of an Uno Turbo... Not that I used to have one... or two...
  16. I think the general concensus is that if you're getting 99.9mpg then one of the vacuum pipes is blocked; and my own experience is that if you're seeing about 10-15mpg (and you know it's better than that!) then one of the vacuum pipes has come off the little swirl-chamber-thingy (technical term, obviously ;)) in the engine bay - mine had actually snapped off...
  17. I reckon if you go for the Cup 3's then they do really have to be the splits, and whilst they are the business, if you don't have the splits then that's all people will comment on... Cup 2's says I...! 8)
  18. Most of my cars have had names... The Passat is called Sen, after the main character in the film Spirited Away - amazing film, see it if you haven't...!
  19. Right, just thought I'd resurrect this thread as I may potentially have been offered a G60 engine with charger for not a lot of money - charger has no fan on it though, but would be speaking to Darren the man about this anyway... Question is - is an engine swap out of the reach of your average home mechanic? I used to work on Harriers for a living so am fairly mechanically clued up but don't have a huge range of tools etc... Quite at home with wiring looms and stuff, but not so sure about popping driveshafts out and that... I'd also want to overhaul the G60 engine whilst it was out of the car, and do all the suspension bushes whilst I was at it. Any ideas about what parts I'd be likely to need (apart from the obvious ECU and wiring loom), and how long I could expect the car to be off the road for...? Look at this as an 8V Corrado to G60 swap as it's pretty much the same thing...! Cheers guys! :D
  20. I think we should just cut the hands off all the pikey thieving scum... Problem solved!
  21. I seem to remember a guy in Revs magazine a while back who chucked a 3.5l Rover V8 in a MK1 and converted it to RWD, then swapped the block for a 4.2, then decided that wasn't enough so bolted on a pair of turbos as well! Mental...
  22. ET is the offset of the wheel; the distance from the centreline of the wheel to the mounting face, and is measured in mm. The higher the number, the more the wheels will be tucked under the arches; the lower the number, the further out the wheels will stick. Wheels with a very deep dish tend to have lower offsets to allow for the dish. Factory offset on VRs is ET43, and on valvers is ET37 IIRC... Hope that makes sense! :D
  23. Yeah, that's looking lovely - definitely looking forward to seeing how she progresses! 8)
