  1. Kept the old battery on for now as think it might be ok. Got the new alternator fitted and car is still misfiring. Didn't even need to warm up this time was doing it straight away. Swapped the maf for a spare i had and it made no difference. Wonsering whether to try some redex through it, maybe an injector a bit blocked?
  2. I put the original battery on the charger and it tests it and charges it up, all went ok. Charged up to 12.4-12.5v, left it on the side for 3 days and it now reads 12.1v (not been connected up to anything) Is that a sign the battery is a bit duff? Can't get hold of the people that sent me to new battery to return it, but for the amount it'll cost to post i may as well sell it to someone for £15 less than i bought it. The people that did my alternator seemed to know a lot about batteries and might get one from them, Says you can fit an AGM battery instead of a flooded one to a non-start-stop car with no issues, but not vice-versa
  3. Hi Virdee Nah, i haven't rung stealth back yet, been spending money on other bits at the moment and been in middle of buying/looking at new cars to replace the daily. I do still want some though.
  4. That new engine i bought, (Meant to have come from VW), had no gasket on the sump, just quite a thick layer of white sealant.
  5. I couldn't see much difference in them. I think it depends on the part whether i choose genuine parts or not. As its just a shaped bit of metal and also uses a gasket with lots of bolts, i went with the topran. Bought a cheap power steering pump and ended up replacing it with a proper vw one after not many miles.
  6. Vagcom would be a good idea, might give a suggestion of where to look.
  7. I think i bought one and fitted it to mine, seemed to be the same quality as an original. Just checked and it was this one i bought https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161566373453?ViewItem=&item=161566373453

    VR6 cams

Schimmel 263's are the ones to get. Could be worth seeing what Vince says. Last time i enquired he said he would order some if there was demand, but i've no idea how long that might take, Could imagine it taking into the new year.
  9. Rang Stealth about the schimmels and they didn't have them in stock, told me to ring back 3 months later. I was going to ring them but doubt they will have them, and then i will have to wait for them to order from US and then arrive here. So tempted to just get the autotech cams.
  10. what about them little dust cover bits on the rear stub axles, can't buy them any where, not the black shield but the little round collar with a lip on it
  11. Got the battery and comparing it to the one in car. Original = 60ah and 540cca, new one = 52ah and 520cca. New one is also quite a bit smaller in size. Does the higher ah make much difference?
  12. It does seem never ending Rob, no matter how much you spend/replace there's always another issue just around the bend. Got the alternator to an electrical place, the guy said when he took the plastic cover off it was very rusty, and mentioned some problems with it, so needs work, he actually mentioned that as it got hotter the problem would get worse. Which is what was happening, so hopefully this is the issue. Should get it back next week. Costing me £90 Might not have needed a new battery but don't mind having one anyway.
  13. I went for this one https://www.battery2u.co.uk/type-063-varta-car-batteries-c6-silver.aspx
  14. Cheers for your help, think i'll take alternator off this weekend. Seems the best place to start
  15. Ordered a new battery now, the one i have is around 5yrs old and did sit about for 2yrs while i did work on the car, (i did charge it every few months) I measured the voltage at battery not too long ago and i get Engine running with fans on = 12.85v and slowly falls, without the fans on i got 13.75v. Starting to think its alternator, which is a shame as thats not too old and cost me about £300 (might take it off and take that to the place i bought it from, hoping they can rebuild it) Do you think this could be causing the misfiring etc
  16. I fitted a new cam pickup wheel, which aren't that easy to find these days. Am hoping the fogs are an unrelated thing, will check the wiring inside the fog lights, i suspect its shorted out and blown a fuse. Got this from vagcom lastnight Where is says battery voltage at 12.58v, should that be higher with engine runing? or does that reading not account for the alternator charging it?
  17. Also i pulled the spark plugs out and from looking at them guides they seemed to have carbon deposits. Which fit with the symptoms
  18. Cheers for the reply, i did have a can sensor issue in the past and turned out to be the pick wheel on the cam sprocket was damaged, so hoping that's all ok now. Nothing showed up on vagcom. Just an abs pump issue which gives me something else to worry about. Also the foglights front and rear stopped working while i was turning them on, so that's another thing to worry about  I have been having a weird idle where it surges with electrics being turned on, like headlights or engine fans coming on. With the hazard lights on you can feel engine pulsing in time with the flashes. Considered buying a new battery.
  19. Tried the water misting and couldn't see any sparks. Have had that in the past and couldn't see it this time. Just changed the spark plugs and the coilpack and it's still doing it. Going to eat dinner and give it a scan with vagcom. Pulled the maf wire out while engine was running and hardly noticed any change in the revs etc. Is that a sign of something
  20. I felt like i had paid £105 to have it cleaned, not sure if they just received it, tested it and because it was working maybe they thought it didn't need anything.
  21. Mine was my clutch master so wasn't like i had no brakes. I couldn't be bothered to chase it up with them, just ended up buying a new one. I was impressed when it came back looking great, but not when it broke,
  22. I wasn't impressed with past parts, i sent off mine to be done, was working fine but after 220,000miles i'd thought i'd get it done as a precautionary measure. Came back looking great, i fitted it, and after about 2000miles it popped and was leaking fluid all onto my foot/footwell. Opened it up myself and it was full of rusty fluid and didn't look like they had done anything on the internals. Seal was all old and perished.
  23. I just use photobucket, seems to work now, its better on the mobile app i've found, the desktop site is full of pop-ups and ads
  24. I have seen them on there but don't want to spend £60+
