  1. A sensor is put up the tail pipe which cant lie or be lenient. Though you maybe able to find a garage that may put the sensor up a different tail pipe. Its not a case of it failing if it doesnt have a cat, its a case that the emissions will be higher with out one and therefore could fail the MOT. You'll probably need a cat during MOT time, but nothing saying you cant put one on for MOT time ;) A sports cat is another option.
  2. it would be less?! wow i wouldnt have said it would have been any better than the VR but certainly not worse!
  3. Sorry mate, i'll try again, go to settings top right then on the left there's the option there. :)
  4. If you go to "my profile" at the top right of the page, you can add a signature there
  5. Odd the pay as you go insurance was £386. Same car on the 4 month insurance was £124.
  6. no worries. Im told there's anotehr part number for the whole unit.
  7. I did think the parts were different for the VR, but he gave them the VR part number and was told there's another part number based on the tyre width of 205 - all VRs came with 205 wide tyres so no idea why there's 2 part numbers for the VR
  8. Jet washed the car on saturday. Took it home and washed it again by hand. Then started to clay bar it - nearly finished and the rain realyl did fall. Didnt matter too much as i was clay barring it - but must have looked nuts squirting the car with the spray and rubbing it whilst its pishing it down. Will polish and wax it this weekend after another wash.
  9. By any chance do you have the part numbers?
  10. This is it, long term it maybe worth spending a little more on a car rather than, a couple of hundred and having to repair it more often (most likely). Something to mull over i guess. Oh and ive noted your last comment. That was another reason to get a different one each winter as i wouldnt have to worry about fixing anything on it - unless of course it stopped me using it for the winter.
  11. speak to Zerocool - he sells them ---------- Post added at 01:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:28 PM ---------- infact, see here :D http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?22727-vr6-plug-lead-removal-tools-for-sale-(metal-type)
  12. But then offset would also be a factor wouldnt it as the tyre may (in theory anyway) sit further in the arch or out thus changing where the center of the contact patch of the tyre would sit. Surely the track width in regards to the track rods would be from the hub to the centre of the car - the track rod will still fasten in the same place on the hub and steering rack regardless of tyre width.
  13. As above tax is same on the VR, also fuel consumption is comparable to the valvers too. Agree with checking for rattles, but the engine may rattle a little when first started. Take it for a drive and check for blue smoke out the back when off throttle when going down a hill - if there is it could be a sign of stem valve seals. Also maybe worth checking the spark plugs as they can tell you alot about an engine - pay particular attention to cylinders 1 and 6 (back left and front right cylinders) as if the plugs are choked up with black residue it could be burning oil = bore wear, which they are prone to. The rest is just usual stuff really.
  14. 4eyes- i did have a look at them and they do a 3 month policy too. - o got a dummy quote for a 1.4 1998 polo CL and it was £124 for the 3 months. Jim - id also considered that option too but you'd get charged for cancelling it, but then again im not sure exactly how much the penalty would be. Also im not sure whether to buy something a little better, id also considered a Mk4, or just get a banger for a couple of hundred quid and sell/scrap it at the end of the winter and get a different one each year - but thats extra hassle. ---------- Post added at 01:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:01 PM ---------- Also any recommendations on where to get a banger? Looked on Ebay, thats ok. But autotrader and piston heads are annoying, particularly autotrader as teh advert price may say 115, but when you click in the ad it says 1150. Obviously they put a cheap price to get the views, but its annoying.
  15. Hi all, Im rang my mechanic last week to get a pair of track rod arms. When he rang up to order them he was asked if they're standard width wheels on the car and told there's a different part number for the VR due to the wider tyres. Are the track rod arms slightly longer on the VRs to account for the wider track of the VR? What confused us is whats the width of the tyres got to do with anything. The track width will still be the same regardless?
  16. Hi all, Thinking about getting a sh1tter of a car for winter. Nothing special, i dont care if its rusting as long as it works and has tax and MOT to cover the winter. Can i get a temp car cover for like 3-4 months? Only want it third party.
  17. I got 4.5k and that was for a VR, told them about the new engine it had, coilovers, exhaust the usual stuff. Alloys. Didnt have a respray. IMO the 5k you've been offered seems a good deal. After all a standard car with leather would be fetching what, 3-3.5K? So depends what extra you've had done.
  18. My first aid kit in black and is a plastic box. Everything in german so no idea what something are.
  19. Now imagine what it would/is like when going to E38 which is a very clique-ie forum, who do gather in their groups. This forum is way friendlier. Though, ive never been to a CF meet or RR day, i cant fully appreciate whats been said. I do however plan to go to a meet or preferably a RR day, to finally get to meet you guys (ive been a member Waaay too long and not met peeps). I can be a shy kind of guy until i get to know people, but it does depend on the circumstances and how comfortable i am at the time. But i do feel if i made the effort to speak to others they'd respond in the same manner
  20. Classic signs of valve stem seals - especially if its on more than cylinders 1 and 6 Its bores 1 and 6 that suffer bore wear so id be expecting just those 2 plugs to be black if bore wear was the issue.
  21. HI Ryan,

sorry ive totally forgot about those pics you asked for. I'll get some of the laquer peel this weekend - gonna give the beast a wash and a clay bar and polish/wax.
