  1. Brilliant conversion, unbelieveable time to completion! Really impressive pal.
  2. Really? I'll have a look! Thanks pal. No updates really as I've been busy with accounts to try and get another mortgage, which I managed to get but only just, lending is really tight at the moment if you are self employed! It's a complete restoration job we're buying so I'll have my summer work cut out...but I get to build myself a nice garage with a lift etc!!! Can't wait.. I did MOT it the other day, feels really quick! I thought I'd put it back together really solid but there are a few rattles in the dash and a few other places I need to sort out. Oh and all the wheels need to be pointed in the right directions!
  3. I wanted to install a auto dimming mirror, the BMW ones are the best imo, and happened to come with an alarm led on the bottom of them, so I thought kill two birds with one stone...such an easy mod I don't see the big deal.
  4. Is the gearshift loose? If it isn't then I wouldn't bother! As David says headlight loom makes a big difference, not quite as much as a Corrado but the power still runs through the headlight switch as standard.
  5. Get a scredriver and hit the mounting lug sideways across the screen, it'll come off, then glue on the bmw one.
  6. It's the check strap bolt loose, if it's loose then it allows the bolt to hit the side of the hole it's in when the spring snaps open, making a cracking sound. Unfortunately the more it happens the worse it gets and you can't really fix it easily, only by drilling the hole it's in to a bigger size and sleeving the bolt.
  7. Hope you're enjoying Mk2 ownership, I've done 40k in mine over a year and a bit, and it's been absolutely brilliant, 42mpg on the motorway cruise and so simple to look after. Mine takes about 4-5 mins (new stat) to get up to temperature in the winter, I haven't looked since we've had warmer weather though. I would just do your cambelt out of course buddy, only takes a hour and half at a steady cup of tea pace, and seeing as you've got the bonnet up to do the thermostat....well you might be under the car actually! Best mod I did to mine though was fit power steering along with Mk3 alternator and pulley setup.

One passed me on the motorway today, I too thought it was quite ugly from the back. Girl driving!
  9. lots of these kits.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12V-Automatic-Car-Van-Truck-Headlight-Light-Sensor-Kit_W0QQitemZ120648195411QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=226173457351&rvr_id=226173457351&cguid=3bd66a4612f0a0aa131142d1ff42d22b you can set the light threshold very low.
  10. Talking of starting threads, when are we going to see your dirty diesel?
  11. The vaccum system on the front of the inlet is for the variable inlet manifold, down't remove it unless you are going turbo! Blank off the bit by the throttle body. Not sure on the tensioner, use VAGCAT.com
  12. Great restoration, don't know how I missed this. Did you do any work to the engine? The bores looked a little shiny..
  13. how come you are selling the wheels Gareth? I liked them :-(
  14. Wow!! your work is so fast! Putting the better wire in the light loom and using relays inside the fusebox makes lots of good sence. I used the same cloth tape to wrap my loom, it's good stuff isn't it. Well done so far mate, top work.
  15. I like them a lot more now too, they fit in with the overall look of the car i'm trying to get to. I've been busy on a few other details which I think will turn out nice, piccies to follow shortly...
  16. I've been really busy the last few months doing other stuff so I haven't had much time to get on with the Corrado, but I have got a few things sorted that needed doing, like taking the fusebox out and wrapping the individual looms in a vain attempt to make it less messy. It was a small improvement but not worth the effort! I've also done a few bits of paintwork, to be perfect the paint needs stripping and a complete respray, but I'm not that fussed so maybe next winter. I'm going to have to make a new downpipe/cat section, as the current one is just too wide for the tunnel and knocks a little bit. Pic of the wheels resprayed and on the car. Much better me thinks :-) Not sure on the centres sticking out though, may look at sinking those somehow.
  17. I took my bonnet off, stood it up on one side on top of a a tarpaulin, and scraped off the majority with a paint scraper, it comes off in big strips really easily. Then I was just left with the glue surface. So put some old bits of foam down and lie the bonnet flat. Get a pot of thinners or petrol and pour a bit onto the glue. You'll see the glue absorb the liquid, I did it in the sections and you have to kind of balance the bonnet to steer the flow of liquid, it's easy. Wait for about a minute, and then get the paint scraper out again and scrape the remainder of the glue off, again it comes off really easily in tidy strips which bunch up onto the scraper which you can then flick in the bin.
  18. Hi Tom, I'm really interested in this conversion, I'm so glad you're doing it! What do you do about driveshafts and fuel pump? Can you use a G60 intercooler?
  19. The company I'm working for at the moment make mine blast protection seating amongst other things and we get the seat foams made by a company called Automotive Trim Development (google it) whom we deal with on a regular basis and I've got to know the MD quite well. I talked to him a while ago about making new bolsters for my Corrado seats and he was more than happy to do it. I got all the bits together to give to him but then bought some recaros and lost interest...It's easy for him to make a resin pattern from the existing foams, from which he can then make small numbers of new foams . If you guys still want new foams than I'm more than happy to give the bolsters to him for him to quote on. Or I'm happy to stay out of it and let you guys deal with it how you like either way..

Can you still do that?
  21. A game of dizzy dummies getting out of that car....
  22. Seems very cheap to me, especially when you think a new performace car can easily cost £30k, with servicing costs over 1k each year...
  23. I think he's talking about the latch pins?
  24. Good to see another Corrado coming back to life! You might already know this but you must cover up the primer with a top coat, as it's porus and won't stop any rust from coming back.
