To be honest it's coming along nicely mate, been a bit busy with the tax return though :( and work has been piling on the hours but can't complain, at least I've got work! Got the slam panel all built up today with new clips and stuff, and made a long list of more clips I need to order..... Also finished the mounting the washer bottle, and thought about fitting the dash, but then remembered I needed to fit the new matrix. Then I started looking for it and just ended up doing a big garage clearup. Then looked at all the dash area, with all the wires atc, and then looked at the piles spurious bits I have lying around, had a 'wtf does it all go' moment, turned the light out and went home :D

Doh  :( :(

Hey Pete, how's the M5 going?
-
I love everything you have done to the car except the badgeless grille, but that's just a personal thing. How much horsepower are you hoping for with the r32 motor? Presumably you are turbocharging it? Can't wait to see that 8) 8)
-
Filters the petrol fumes from the tank breather.
-
Yeah you're probably right about the car, 2wd DSG gearbox will come with it too 8) , but I think it still has the aukward Mk5 Style immobilizer.
-
Too right !!! I've just had the best fun drive home I've had in a years :D Thanks mate :D , yes templates have all been kept!! My personal preference is an Audi 2004 TT / 3.2 A3 engine. TT's in my view are less likely to be ragged than R32's as they are less focused drivers cars. According to Phat VR6 there are quite a few differences between the two engines, I couldn't tell you what though, but he seemed to think the Audi's were better, it does cost more to buy! Bit more powerful (negligible though). Audi ECU's cause less agro for the immobilizer defeat, although if I were doing this again, I'd consider using a standalone ECU, it's much less hassle. :D

I wondered if I put the crack pipe on wrong, but It's not bolted on tight anyway. Will do it once I'm certain Ive go the pipework setup correctly. The 12v crack pipe does differ to the 24v but again hope to use mainly 12v coolant layout. Thanks for pointing it out though Will need to source a part number and see if vw do a decent price. If im lucky may find a 2nd hand one Attatched to the front of the inlet manifold was a larger plastic box that looked like an air damper. Attatched to this were/are two little solenoid/valve thingies that must control the amount of vaccuum going to the variable inlet and the other goes to the egr controler iirc correctly. Olnly prob is i didnt pay attention when taking it all apart and now i dont know which controls the egr and which controls the inlet. Once i work out which is not needed can i cut it off or will it throw the car into a error mode? Will get some pics up to make it clearer Ill give kip a shout at some point, but currently the 12v coolant temp sensors have no plug attatched. Surely this will mean the dash or engine fan wont work correctly. Or does the 24v ecm only need one coolant temp input and has the relevent outputs for the dash gauge and fan control? 1. I think (long time ago now!) used the Audi alternator bracket, just took the air con off. 2. The solenoid furthest away from the alternator controls the Inlet manifold- diagrams on VAGCAT 3. I'll know exactly what goes on with the Audi ECU and fan controlling shortly, there are a few outputs which I'm not sure on. 5. Geeny brown temp sensor for the ECU. Can't remember which of the others do what anymore, I can never remember which is the right way round anyy more! VAGCAT will tell you!!

I'm not sure what silver it is! I think it's a bit too dark for Diamond silver, I'll have a look later...

The new daily :D :D 8v, 1 owner, always garaged, totally original except a tow bar, which will be the first thing to come off. He had one of those pointless little trailers hooked up to it :cuckoo: It has no mod cons at all except a sunroof so I'm going to put PAS onto it asap, along with some 15" nicer BBS, 16V rear lights, light smoked indicators etc. maybe a bee sting as I've just broken the wing mounted ariel. The Arosa did me proud, it cost me nothing to run in 2 years (40k) except oil and tyres, although it could now do with a good service, but I'll let the new owner do that! The brakes though still have loads of life in them, just goes to show that lightweight really has its benefits. 49hp did have its limits though  IMAG0372.jpg[/attachment:2hecolto]

on Sunday mate!

I don't really get the time, have you seen when this thread started!!!
-
I must have missed that pic, stopped loking after a couple of pages though! I'm not too keen on all the stance crap, but must admit I do like the BBS splits that everyone else seems to like too.... cheers mate, not far for me now, glad you're carrying on with your car, best red C about bar none. :)

That's exactly how I intend it to look! 8) 8) 8) It'll be nice to be back in a golf again, it's been a few years since i had one, but it'll be my 7th I think :D I'll get the part no. for you pal, but yes it was from an ibiza, the Golf one was the same except the ports come out at opposite ends, rather than at 90 degrees to each other. When I turned the bottle round I had to go back to using the ibiza one as the port exited heading into the rad. where did you get that pic from??
-
I don't quite have it yet!!! I've put a deposit on it though!
-
Cheers mate, it's a 91 Mk2 Gti, totally standard. Not sure if it's a wise daily, but I've always wanted a Mk2 in Silver. Maybe when it's finished!!!
-
Ok some pics of some small progress, just for my reference really as they aren't very interesting! Oddly stuff just seemed to work for me tonight, even the brackets that I made actually fitted, usually when I make stuff for the first time it won't quite fit :D I have to drop a clanger soon! More on Saturday I should think.

Don't think they particularly need to be samco's unless I'm missing something?

I can highly reccomend gearlink services near me (Salisbury), they've reconditioned two gearboxes for me now, both times they let me inspect the box when it was stripped and showed me where any wear was etc, they are just really pleasant and professional people. They charged me £380 for my Corrado box, five years ago though which I thought was very reasonable.

Thanks mate, I'm a design engineer which helps! The seats are giving me grief at the moment, I can't get the rotary dampers to work properly, I thought they would be the easiest bit, but they seem to be the hardest part of the whole seats, I think I'll end up making my own rather than trying to graft existing ones to fit. Hi Chris mate how are you doing? Well I always take ten times longer than estimated but now i can get to the car when I want to, it should be much faster progress, today I've finished all the cooling side of things, including all the hoses which involved a fair bit of mix and matching hoses between the two engines. On the 3.2 engine the aux pump is in a different position (front of the block), I wanted to keep in in this position which meant lots of the 12V hoses didn't fit the engine and the 3.2 hoses didn't suit the car layout. In the end it all turned out a lot better than I thought it would, with all the hoses looking like they were meant to be there. I did however ruin my bottom rad hose if anyone has one for sale? I've also finished a new PAS bottle bracket, brake servo vacuum hose, a card template of a bracket to hold the airbox, and generally put lots of little clips and brackets back into the engine bay. I'm going to be spending a couple of evenings and Saturdays on it until it's finished, but i'm getting a new daily next weekend to replace my Arosa 1.0, which is doing my head in on my 150 mile round trip each day despite its good mpg.. so I won't be doing much next weekend! Cheers Jay, you're right, it's soo nice when you can find something off the shelf to fit but that's a rare find! I really hope the car is a usable daily (even if it does drink a bit) as that's the proof of the pudding for me really. A few of the other car's i've done have been great as a weekend car, but sucked as daily's. I can't say I didn't use your thread as reference when I was planning it all though :D I've decided not to cut the bottom off it, as I'm going to use the Audi inlet duct (which needs the bottom on the airbox really) and cut a hole in the inner wing to give it a cold air supply, I thought I could get ducting round the back of the battery to the back of the headlight but it seems it's not so easy to get the x-sectional area I need so it seems better to get it from inside the wing, even though it's not a high pressure area like the original headlight position. I quite like the Audi engine badge, I think it looks nicer than the VW one, I'd prefer it if it was VW, but I'm not bothered enough to change it! :D

Chris Langdon's Moonlight Blue VR6 thread!!!
KipVR replied to Chris Langdon's topic in Members Gallery
Yeah he bought a widebody, and you're right, he was a nice guy! :D
