  1. hell of a lot easier than lifting the engine out as long as you don't snap one of the bumper bolts...
  2. dazzyvr6, you don't need a hoist, you just need a trolley on wheels... Have a look in my gallery for H-YYU and you'll see what I mean... ;) 8)
  3. for the cost of the head gasket and the fact that it's a doddle to do a head on an 8V gti, I'd just take the head off.... If you damage a ring with a trapped chipping then it's gonna cost you one hell of a lot more to sort it... :|
  4. MJ of the famed MJ Interiors... 8) CLICKY!
  5. DutchVR6, yup, Kev's triple layered most of his car... it's almost silent inside it now... 8)
  6. Henny

    G60 Driveshafts

one's hollow and the other's solid too... 8) Perfectly normal, nothing to see here, move along please... ;) Driver's side one should have a "balancing" weight on it too which normally come loose... if it has then this could be causing the rubbing... simply cut it off 'cos it doesn't do anything anyway... 8)
  7. A dead coolant temp sensor would throw it out by around this much too...
  8. locksville for this thread as all needed info has been provided... 8)
  9. if it wasn't earthed then it shouldn't have damaged anything... I take it you've now reconnected the earth and it still not working?
  10. either that or he's been at the pies again... ;) good to hear that your engine's sound Kev... It certainly felt good at Inters... 8)
  11. have a word with MJ... as he does quite a few re-trims, he may have some of the fabric you need kicking about... 8)
  12. 1940cc engine? Not heard of anyone else running one of them yet... 8)
  13. potatonet, they're off a Golf Rallye.... They can be made to fit a corrado, but they don't look quite right IMHO...
  14. Jim, it was an evening mate... ;) It was off the road for a week in the end 'cos I knackered up my shoulder so couldn't tighten the driveshafts or downpipe... :( I reckon it took about 10 hours in total... Although an hour and a bit of that was removing the bumper bolt which the head sheared off from right at the start of the job... Bally, they were custom made for me by a local engineering firm... 8)
  15. it's already gone and been swapped with a nice new black one from GPC when I was at inters just after those pics were taken... ;) 8)
  16. dinkus, yeah, shame it looks crap up close... She's in dire need of a respray... :( corradowales, it's the one off J-DUB... ;) phil_k, mine's had at least 3 blow overs on different parts... you can tell 'cos there's at least 4 different colours on her... dinkus, that's out the back of my garage... handy having a free 250 space carpark there to use for what ever I feel like at night! ;) I live next to the mayor of Congleton, and she said that it was OK, so who am I to argue?!? ;) Custom made spacers/spiggot rings anyone? £25 each... 8)
  17. OK, pics... 8) (taken at Inters)
  18. that's only DOT5 'cos it was silicone based which would eat the rubber seals DOT5.1 is fully compatible with DOT 3 and DOT 4 brake fluid and won't eat your seals... (but will still eat your paint, so be careful! ;) ) linky! *edit* BETTER LINKY!
  19. you can happily mix DOT4 with DOT5.1... the odds are that the newer fluid will be somewhat clearer than the old stuff, or you could just keep on pumping until you've emptied (and topped up!) the reservoir a couple of times so you know that you've got it all out... If you have ABS, the general consensus now is that you DON'T empty the ABS pump of fluid/allow the reservoir to become completely empty as bleeding the ABS pump is "a bit of a git..." :|
  20. that's none to shabby considering you won't need to change it again for another 5 years or so compared with the 2 years you're supposed to replace DOT4 after... ;)
  21. they're the silvered ones ben16v, ;) Nice page link though... 8) They have the offset pin fitment that the holders which take the amber bulbs already have... (note: they won't fit into standard bulb holders without removing one of the pins... ;) )
  22. A ripple in the roof means that even if it's decided to put it back on the road, the car will never drive properly again.... :(
