LOL bet you been watching the clock since he first posted he would have it running by midnight  chris Nope, She's not running... I had a little accident... (not with the car!) I got the engine bolted into H-YYU as planned fairly early on Thursday night with just the coolant, intercooler system and driveshafts left to connect and was carrying a light bag back to my house through my garden when I tripped, fell, twisted my back pulling a muscle, dislocated my shoulder (again  ) and bruised my shoulder, hip, hand and thumb (which actually hurts more than all the rest!) The car's still in bits (although they're rather large bits which shouldn't take long to sort out 8) ) and I ache, but other than that I'm ok, the car's looking good and should be ready for this weekend, if not it'll definately be at GTI festival at Santapod the weekend after... 8)

Early burgandy 16V on the M56 into manchester at about 9:10 this morning... I was in the missus's Jeep (corrado still in bits) so you wouldn't have spotted me... Looked very nice... 8)

Ah! you see, that's what I was on about... your ENGINE has 168K, but the charger's only on 23ish-K... If you'd got 168K on your charger, then I'd be a bit more receptive of your comments against G60 chargers... ;) J-DUB's engine AND charger have done 250K+ miles in the 13years it's been around which, I think you'll agree, is pretty good going. Show me a charger like yours that has that kinda milage on it with only 4 rebuilds... ;) Conclusion: G60 superchargers unreliable? nope, not if they're looked after properly... 8)

kevhaywire, with ya there... although I ran -1.5 degrees on J-DUB for the ultimate in tyre eating cornering!  Again, my experience from opinion... ;)

Tempest, :P (black leather, dark grey car and parking on an exposed carpark in weather like this isn't much fun... :| :onfire: )
-
Blow me, your charger has 168000 miles on it??? You've been a busy boy then...  You'll find that the G60 engines are well upto doing silly high milage, but the supercharger was somewhat on the limit of available engineering production methods when it was built, so it's understandable that they need servicing every now and then... The charger on my 1940cc engine is the original one and has been rebuilt only 4 times in 250,000 miles that I know of and is still good... 8)

I saw you! * *may contain non-truth.... ;)

billinjahg60, sounds more like a bearing or UJ to me than the rack... :| If it was the rack, you'd just get float in the steering (free play on the steering wheel before the wheels actually do anything - drive a Landrover and you'll see what I mean! ;) )

dr_mat, I have one portable copy in the car, one in my home PC/jukebox and a copy on a shed load of DVDs which are stored at my parents house (including all of my photos and the like) just in case the worst ever happens... I'm not paranoid, I just don't like taking chances with things that are VERY difficult to replace... :)

task, swings and roundabouts really... I know a guy who ran a MKI with a G60 engine and a turbo and he was never really happy with it and had lots of problems getting it setup properly, but I've seen a couple that have been done with good results... I suppose it depends entirely on your budget and what you want to get out of the car... :|
-
well, at least the guys I got the drive from (http://www.scan.co.uk) are great at their aftersales too... got my nice new shiney 80GB drive this lunchtime with no quibbles or problems... Let's see how long this one lasts... ;) Now to put all the music back onto the thing... glad I have a mirrored copy on my home PC... 8)

task, sounds like the top bearings have seized and punched a hole in the outer casing... New charger time if that's the case... Saying that, 170,000 miles out of an none-rebuilt charger isn't exactly bad to be honest... Most people reccommend a rebuild every 40-60,000 miles so you've saved the cost of 3 rebuilds which should buy you a nice new charger! ;) :|

The only pipe that differs on the 1.8 16V from the early G60 systems is the front pipe and cat. Later G60s (and other models) had different hangers on the exhausts, so make sure that you get a system which has the correct hangers on it for your car (I can't remember if early ones were bar style hangers or hook ones... )

I'm aiming to get the new engine in and running before midnight... (otherwise I have no idea what it'll turn into! ;) ) Saturday's task is to fit the Brembos, the painted rear MKIV calipers, the newly refurbished 40mm offset Borbet Cs and the 4 new 11mm spacers/spiggots... Oh, and finally give it a clean ready for sunday...
-
yup, no RHD Corrado left the factory with Air con, it was always an aftermarket fit option...

Just been (13:45) followed by (then I followed) a G plate Black C on the M61 -> M60 -> M602... Looked nice and showed up how much I need to swap the engine in H-YYU 'cos it seemed WAY quicker than mine! Got a wave and a smile as we went our seperate ways... Anyone here?
-
well, tonights task is to take the engine and box out of H-YYU and fit J-DUB's engine/box in instead! :| Wish me luck! :cuckoo:
-
Stick a full years MOT on it and you'll get around £1300 for it if it's in nice condition... If not, you'll be lucky to get £900.... :|

deffo prefer it with the black surrounds matey.... Looking good as always... 8)

at the end of the day, it's still a nice looking classic BRITISH sports car... 8) (need some photos of it in this thread though! ;) )

chrishill, OK, how many exterior body panels does the Corrado share with the Golf? NONE... Look at the pics I just posted of the GT6 and the Spitfire and tell me that's the same for those! ;) Hell, even the official owners club is the "Spitfire AND GT6 owners club"...
