Advice on rust treatment for my poor 205 Gti
tonedef replied to corrado_sunderland's topic in General Car Chat
Another vote for ACF50 here, after all a product developed to inhibit corrosion in aeroplanes must be half decent??? -
I've always struggled with the concept we own cars that are worth a lot less than a similar vintage Golf, and we've convinced ourselves for all that time that these values were realistic. There is after all little between the two models in real terms, neither is particularly more or less reliable than the other, neither performs significantly better than the other, the Corrado just cost a few grand too much when new and suffered from the resultant poor popularity, a popularity that never recovered before it was discontinued. For years we said that prices were too low and one day they would bottom out before increasing again. Well maybe they have done just what we always said they would and now we're saying people are asking too much. Will we ever be satisfied? I'm sure they'll never recover enough for me to get my money back but then I bought my VR in 2000 for best part of 14K. It is however probably of similar value to my 2007 Mk2 TT 3.2 now, and that cost a lot more than the Corrado when I bought it in 2010!

Yellow H reg on the road from Cuckney to Langwith this afternoon. Made me jealous!

Whats the weirdest thing you've carried in your 'rado?

Winner! :thumbleft: -
Between September 2000 and October 2008 we managed just short of 80K miles at a fairly regular 10K per year. October 2008 to today.........zero! This may however be the year it comes back!
-
Mine has a load of scuff marks on it but it's still there, I did grind a hole in the sump being a bit too enthusiastic through a dip though!
-
And therein lies another problem, passenger door scrapers were obsolete when I was buying all the new bits, I bought a full passenger door from eBay to get a seal that was better than the one I removed before paint. Not checked recently what other seals are still available.
-
I stripped mine down myself and did a lot of the prep work, paid 2K plus costs for glass removal / refit, new screen which cracked coming out and recovery truck from home to paint shop and back. Then start factoring new door, boot, sunroof seals and any badges, trim etc that might get broken and you'll spend 4K without even trying! And as Chris says, it takes ages, I've not been very committed to the cause at times but I'm around three years in since I got serious about getting mine back on the road, moving house in the middle didn't help my case though.

Still reeling from this announcement. After I spoke to you Stanford Hall a couple of years ago and promised to get my car back on the road I thought you'd always be there for me! Well I've missed again already this year, MJ Interiors can't get my seats in until end of April so I've failed.....I'll be there next year though!!! Good luck with whatever you do Jim, hope to see you around in the future.

I'll take a pair of these Jim, thanks! -
I've got some on mine but they're pretty old, my car's been off the road eight years. Think it was dinkus did them so could be coming ten years ago.........and the address is wrong now too! Maybe time to get some new ones made if anyone knows a sticker man, interior this time rather than exterior though.
-
I'm still on an offshore shutdown, been here a month. Should get off Wednesday morning so I'll check the garage then.
-
I might have a set in the garage but I'll not be home for another week or so. I'll have a look then and get you some photos.
-
White, lowered, K reg I think. Driving through Cuckney towards Langwith about 17£0 this evening. We were walking along the side of the road when you drove past.
-
Engine on and ABS light off at the same time, first time I've had that combination since about 2008!
-
Think I diagnosed the ABS problem, waiting for parts delivery...........one job closer to getting back own the road, only AC pipes and leather re-trim to go! Next year for sure, been saying that about five years though!
-
Nugget G60 registration EJT 663 at Welbeck farm shop / garden centre near Worksop, no owner spotted........next time eh!
-
16 years in September and 80,000 miles. It's been our third car for a while now though getting gradually rebuilt. Owned a valver the five years before that too.
-
I ended up buying a door off a breaker, not yet been brave enough to try removing the seal from it though!
-
Found one now, thanks hibberjo :thumbleft:
-
Cheers Jim, I thought as much. Guess that saves me digging in the garage for the broken one!
-
I'm looking to buy one, name your price if you have one to sell?
