  1. I am expecting to be there. Looking forward to catching up with everybody..
  2. Good luck wih it, matey. I look forward to seeing you around in the South West and at meets down an around here. It would be good to get a collection of VRTs together. I note also that you've got a B5 S4. Snap. Another great car. Rgds Charlie
  3. I absolutely love my VRT. I've owned the car too long now to consider parting with it unless things get really bad...I hope they won't. I think the kids would go first!! But seriously, you don't drive it like a loon everywhere; you can't, just like you couldn't drive a Ferrari like a loon everywhere, and I certainly wouldn't thank you for one of them. Like so many comments here, it the exclusivity of ownership, the "I always wanted one of them" comments from passers by on a petrol station forecourt, the noise it makes and the friendship of fellow owners that makes me want to keep it. Going fast is great, but its going fast in a Corrado that I wanted. The VRT is, like Jim says, devastating. 40-100mph blows me away everytime: 4th gear is crazy, 3rd gear is insane; and it seldom troubles the traction (with a Peloquin) in the dry. Fuel consumption is not as bad as I expected - like Kev says, get somewhere around 28-30 in normal driving. Although I've just had a longer 5th gear fitted to help economy on the motorway. On a gentle cruise (70-80) before I would see 33-34. I now see 36 which is not bad for a VR of any description. And the roll-in power is more than adequate at that speed to offset the slight loss in acceleration at motorway speeds as a result, versus most cars you'll meet. I think frankly that if its time to move on from a Corrado, then its time and you shouldn't do it on the grounds of lacking performance alone; but if you still love the thing given (like me) how much money and love you've put to it, improving the performance of what y've already got is the way forward. Yes, you'll sink money into it that you won't get back, but think of the depreciation you'll suffer on any car that's going to rival the performance of a VRT. And ultimately, you'll be driving a pretty rare machine that'll hold its own against about 99% of all cars on the road.
  4. A good choice on an R32. I toyed with buying one of these a few months ago, but instead opted for a B5 S4 (RS4 spec). I've always liked the R32 and remember going to the dealers to find out about them before they were actually available to order. The Phirm look after quite a few of them including a couple of turbo cars and have done a number of Rotrex conversions on Mk4 R32s and on 2.8 4Mo's too. The consensus there seems to be that the Rotrex route is more straight forward and provides some quite astounding results for a relatively simple install, i.e. not messing around with custom downpipes etc. 500hp is relatively easily achievable and makes for a pretty astonishing road car. The 24v head and VVT really do make it a very tunable engine especially in FI mode.
  5. Lovely photos of that Rallye. I remember seeing it yers ago at Edition 38 and lusting after it. I tink it was just a V6 in the 'bay at the time, but it was the quaity of the paint and interior that impressed me. Back to the well-specced VRT vs R32 conversion Corrado discussion, I would have to say that the VRT will run rings around an R32 performance-wise, but I do love the noise of an R32 and would love to put one into my Mk3.
  6. I'll take your last 5 if you've still got 'em. PM me payment details. Thanks Charlie
  7. Mine didn't have a VSR plate on it either - it had 'Pierburg' written on it - they made the VSRs for VW. Its funny that I've seen more VSRs without the 'VSR' plate than I have with them. GLWS.
  8. pm sent with email address, matey.
  9. Trigger, Any chance of pics? How many miles have they done? Has yu car been garaged or left out whilst these have been fitted? Just trying to get a feel for their condition. Am very interested.. Thanks. Charlie
  10. Eric, I am sure my membership lapsed over the last year as I've been away. I want to register for a couple of these events, so grateful if you could drop me a pm as to wht you want me to do. I plan to be at the AGM for starters..Thanks. Charlie
  11. Numerous owners isn't a problem, so long as the servicing and service history are up to date and not skimped on. They all seem to have loads of owners who have kept them for a season then moved on to a sensible car when children or house purchases have caught up with them. The one thing about a 911 that puts me off, is that nearly everything is an engine out job or at the least take hours of labour to complete. Thus the simplest mechanical tasks (plugs, oil filter) cost a fortune. Also, they're not that quick; there's masses more out there that's quicker for the money - even a supercharged VR will keep up for a fraction of the cost. I agree that I'd have a 993 over any other shape (993 Turbo as a daily would be awesome, 993 RS for weekends) is the one to have and prices are only going one way now...up! So if you can afford one and importantly afford to look after it, then go for it. But keep the 'Rado if you've got space. Finally, absolutely definitely buy the best one you can afford...
  12. I am runnng IE rods in my VR turbo build. Remember thinking they are genuinely lovely pieces of kit when I was helping to fit them.
  13. I have always loved this wheel. Very similar to the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1s I have been running for the last 3 yrs. As Karl says, they do look good with a big set of Brembos or Tarox sitting behind them. Very motorsport...GLWS.
  14. Registering my interest for this setup. I know so little about audio/ICE but value a decent sound. I'd like to replace my (original) front speakers...
  15. Updated this with a new price... Its FREE to a good home, so let me know... Otherwise, it'll be going to the tip. We need the space.
  16. Coilovers sold and collected. Many thanks, Paul. Hope they work well on your project. Sounds like a good one. Charlie ---------- Post added at 2:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 2:48 PM ---------- Locked.
  17. Had one of Dave's short shifters fitted (without cutting up the car), had the full beam massively improved and fitted my new set of wheels. Delighted with all the updates. The short throw and a little fettling to the mechanism has made it beautifully tight and like a rifle bolt. Highly recommended. The improved full beam was essential because the dipped beam - with the HIDs - is so good. The Phirm did their usual oustanding job, and Tim wired in essentially an uprated loom. The difference is night and day. Finally, the new wheels are ace. Compomotives 1780 in 17x8 ET35 made up to order wearing Yoko Parada Spec2s. While the wheels were off, I wasted time cleaning up the arches. Luckily the roads were much drier for the journey home, although the whole car needs a good wash after seeing some use recently. In other news, I've got a new daily which I'm settling in with. I love my Mk3 but feel that this is a step up. Needs a few little touches but I'm reassured I've bought a good one. A couple of pics from yesterday:
  18. Bill, I'm sorry to put you off, matey. And its very decent of you to understand my current circumstances. I guess its just bad timing and difficult because of the distance you live away. I hope you find another set soon. Paul - PM sent re payment and pick up. Rgds Charlie
  19. Bill, I'm really short of time at the moment (second child just arrived) to prep these for a courier. Happy for you to arrange someone to courier for you but I'd need to know what packing requirements they expect, not least to ensure they don't get damaged. Get back to me when you have the info. Paul - If it turns out to be too difficult/demanding to courier, I'll let you know. I hope all think that's fair.. Charlie
  20. For Sale: Koni Coilover Suspension – Mk3 VR6 Golf, Corrado, Vento Top Adjustable for Bound (damping). Just been completely refurbed by the UK Koni approved refurbisher. Not been fitted to a vehicle since refurb. All new damper internals - including valves, oil. Rebound side uprated to give a little more control and improve the handling. But specc’d for a road car (they were going to go on my VR6 Corrado), so not rock hard. New threads on both rear damper bodies. All collars are free and easy to rotate. Brand new Koni adjusters. Some light rust on the springs but nothing to worry about and there is no cracking to the plasticoating on any of the springs. I was about to run these as they are. Genuine reason for sale: Selling the Golf VR6. Koni used to make the dampers for companies like KW - that's how good these are. These coilovers are equivalent to somethng like the KW V2 coilovers, which retail for over £1000. This set of coilovers is to all intents now as good as new. Located in Wiltshire. Collection only. £600 ovno
  21. Right, decided I just want to move this on now, so its actually free to a good home. You've just got to come and collect. Removed from a 1995 VR6 Corrado. Only the driver's seat available, the remainder of the interior has gone. Ready to slot into a car. Seat belt restraint fitted. Heated seat wiring in place ready to connect up. Minor ageing to bolster as per photo. Used as a spare seat by me when I sold my original interior. Now no longer required. Located in Wiltshire. Collection only or courier by your arrangement. £ Free to a good home..
  22. Hi Dave, Received my short shifter tomorrow. Ihope to get some time over the weekend to fit it, but in any case, will return my shifter to you asap. Charlie
  23. Glad you're still around, Ben. Good to know there are stil a couple of VRT owners around here.. Good luck getting the car back on the road. I've just got mine MOT'd and running again after months tucked away. Its just had a sports cat fitted into the 3in system too, so I no longer have to go through the decat on and off malarky come MOT time. Got a few other little tweaks in the pipeline too. Rgds Charlie
