I've smoothed and tinted lots of tail lights over the past few years and whilst doing them I often wondered how a set would look if they were just smoothed and polished ......... an OEM look but minus all the surface markings. I had a good set of spare lights so I gave them a go with the results as shown below. The lights were totally smoothed using a variety of pads from 320 to 3000 grit on a D/A sander. They were then polished with G3 and G10 compound on a buff. I must say I quite like the subtle result, much cleaner and brighter than standard lights. It might be a while before the all reds find their way in again.

  11. The presence of silicone sealer would ring alarm bells in my mind, I'd say some-one has tried to bodge a repair and that's most likely the problem.

  13. Here we have an immaculate 1993 Mk3 Golf VR6 ABS ECU which was in perfect working order when removed. This unit would normally be found under the rear seat of the Golf. Part number is 1H0 907 379C and this unit may well be compatible with certain Corrado VR6 models ........ check the part number! Asking price is £25 including postage. Collection from Bangor, N.Ireland is welcome at £20
  14. Bring the power cable through the bulkhead in the area behind the glove box and then underneath the carpet along the sill and into the boot. Run the RCA lead and remote wire underneath the carpet along the centre tunnel and then into the boot. Keep the power cable well away from the RCA lead to avoid possible interference. You may be able to pass the power cable through an existing grommet in the bulkhead, if not simply drill a hole in the bulkhead to accommodate the cable but be sure to fit a grommet to avoid the possibility of the cable chaffing through and short circuiting. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_723215_langId_-1_categoryId_265888
  15. To do this properly you should run a power supply directly to the amp from the battery and it should have an in line fuse approx. 6-9 inches from the battery. This is purely for protection should the power lead accidently short out. An 8 gauge power cable should suffice for a simple two channel amp but a 4 gauge power lead would be better as it allows for future upgrades. The amp should be earthed with a short cable to a suitable earth point in the boot ( possibly a seat belt anchor bolt). The amp will require a signal input from the head unit and this can be achieved by plugging one end of an RCA lead into the rear of the head unit and the other end into the amp. To switch the amp on when the radio is switched on you simply run a wire from the 'remote on' wire on the back of the head unit ( a blue wire) to the 'remote' terminal on the amp. You then simply run two speaker wires from the amp to the two 6x9s. The easiest way to source all these bits is to buy an 8 or 4 gauge amp wiring kit from somewhere like Halfords. The kit will contain everything you need inc. the various terminals etc. Under no circumstances wire the amp onto any existing component, if you are going to do it ......... do it properly. Give me a shout should you need any further help.

    G60 Wiper Arm

    The two arms are slightly different lengths although the blades are the same. I can do you both arms and a set of nearly new blades for £20 posted as I've upgraded to Lupo arms and blades. The arms are in good condition, no rust although they are slightly marked where the blades go on.......... nothing a quick squirt of satin black aerosol wouldn't cure. Photos below.
  17. Pic. below of early door-pods on a late door. All you need to do is open a hole to take the switch. I actually used Mk3 Golf switches ........ much neater imo.
  18. As already mentioned, have the ABS system scanned on a diagnostic computer which will pinpoint the problem. The diagnostic port is directly in front of the gear lever, underneath the leather gear lever gaiter. A faulty wheel sensor is the most common problem.
  19. Maybe an obvious question, but why did you sell the green one if it had all the toys and was everything you wanted in a Corrado? Could it just be a case of looking back with your rose tinted glasses on? I seem to remember that when OSV bought back his silver car that it was no time until it was gone again.
  20. It certainly is possible to polish out very fine scratches on glass but the general rule of thumb is that if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail then it's too deep to polish out. I could give you a contact in N.Ireland OK, but I doubt if that would be of any help to you. If you have a body shop nearby it might be worth enquiring if they could point you in the right direction, that's how I got my contact. Failing that, there are lots of glass polishing kits available on e-bay if you fancy having a go yourself.

    Mist in dials!

    My Corrado lives on the drive all year round and I've found that a couple of large de-humidifier bags, one on the dash and one on the rear shelf, keep it condensation free. Just do a search on e-bay for 'de-humidifier bags' and take your pick. Bring them inside and set them on a radiator or pop them in the oven to dry out every couple of weeks.......... job done.
  22. The wires running to the indicators and side repeaters all terminate in plugs. It should be as simple as finding the relevant plugs and plugging them back in. The indicator plugs will be somewhere behind the bumper and the side repeater plugs will be behind the wings. You would probably have to remove the splash guards under the arches to retrieve them.
