That's very cool :D If you modelled the inlet manifold TO SCALE on a computer (finite element analysis?) and you knew the intake air velocities at certain rpms , I reckon you could work out which injector to put in each cylinder at a particular duty cycle to give a perfect AFR. Obviously, manufacturer's don't bother with this at the factory!

You should really take out the spindles and knife-edge them too, fluids prefer to flow down the middle of a pipe as opposed to the 'boundaries' along each side. Take the screws out aswell and flatten off those god-awful rounded heads, then it'll be awesome :thumb right:
-
The flow rate of fluid through a system is the same at all points if the density of the fluid remains constant. The fluid here is air, and although you could argue that the density changes as the air inlet temperature is slightly increased, this is negligible for modelling an engine inlet system as such a system. This is governed by (rho).A.c remaining constant, where Rho is the greek letter symbol for density, A is the area of the pipe the fluid is flowing through and c is it's mean velocity in m/s. :D

KR or 9A?

Think about it for a moment. If you hit something hard enough to create a gap large enough for oil to come out, then: The pan could well be bent, which you know - replacement pan. The bolts could be bent or sheared - replacement bolts, The bolts could have stripped the thread from the block into which they go.... oh dear - new block??? I'd get under it asap, whip the pan off and examine all those holes. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Keep us updated buddy, hope it gets fixed soon.

Gutted... bad incident on the roads tonight
boost monkey replied to Alexander's topic in General Car Chat
Oh dear, glad you're ok! Yeah I would say that if your car is behaving normally, 99% of the time it's fine. I mean, wishbones are solid metal and the pressed layers of subframes are very strong *(unless they're rotten like that other mateys was) You know those metal bollards that lie on the ground and can be locked up into a vertical position to stop people parking in places? I accidentally caight one of those with my sibframe when turning around once and I pulled it clean out of the ground! My frame was fine too. Subframe 1 - 0 Bollard. -

it just looks so good. I'm actually quite shocked that a relatively old car can have such stunning paintwork -
So, I finally pulled my finger out and have started my own thread, mainly due to nagging by CazzaVR  I will bear us both the embarassment and leave out the non-VAG wagons so the list is short. Early Mk2 16v Golf After eventually being able to afford it, I bought a mk2 16v golf off eBay without even going to see it first, mainly cos i'm mental and also cos it was only £500 with t&t (plus I liked the reg plate!): I am actually mad too, which helps I think? :drinking: I sold the 5-spokes ASAP for £50 and got some lovely black steels :D Also sold the badges and put Golf C badges on. Sleepers are so much fun, Junkie is right   So, I'm getting used to it and all, feels like a rocket ship after the car I had before! Engine had done 172k and I hadn't got round to servicing it or anything before I take it for an extreme blat up the M3 towards Winchester (I was living in Southampton at the time). So i'm giving it some beans and suddenly thought it would be a good idea to drop it into 4th at 90mph and see what it would do (for those who are local, it was up through the chalk hill before newbury turning, that massive incline bit?). So i did. Next thing I know, the buzzer comes on. Yes, that buzzer. Low oil pressure. Arse. I gaze over at the hole in the dash where someone ghetto rigged a Tim guage, and sure enough the needle was dropping pretty damn quick, and settled somewhere around 20psi. Arse. One small trouser accident later, and I'm pulled off the motorway a few junctions before newbury and I phone a good VW friend from a forum. He says it's prob ok, just limp it home, so I limp it ~10miles back to Southampton, the buzzer going on and off intermittently like some nervous blind man with a morse code machine. I get off the motorway and it's _really_ not happy, it does actually sound like a bad of bolts to coin a phrase! Keeps stalling out on me which makes the PAS lock up and i eventually get it back onto the drive after bouncing it off next door's fence post. God, what a night. I get up the following morning and start the car, wondering if maybe it had magically fixed itself. It let me know very quickly in no uncertain terms it was quite ill: It puked all over the floor. Not surprising, it had a rough night! mechanically hung over perhaps?? I tried to swap the oil pump out, but no. 4 bearing was literally silver fluid in the sump, that's how fine the dust from it was  Annoyed at my dead car (think i had it 4wks before it died) I sulked for a while then sourced an ex-show car engine on 10k (reportedly) and slung it in. I sold the old cylinder head to a tuner and dumped the block as it was the world's heaviest paperweight. I hired an engine crane for a day, labelled up EVERYTHING vaguely enginey and electrical and got cracking: A couple of phone calls to Dave(?) @ Storm and the engine was out. I literally called him up just to ask how to take it out. what a TOP bloke!! :thumb right: Reusing gearbox so popped it off in the garage... ...and onto the new engine. Hooray! A few hours later and it was back in the engine bay. Woo! I reckon I had the whole thing done in about 6hours including lunch. Probs one of the biggest things i've achieved so far! Had a few niggling issues with some sensors, plus the idle screw on the TB of new engine was all the way in, so it wouldn't idle. took me A G E S to work that one out! Also, the exhaust smoked for a while as I'd left some greasy hand prints on it which doesn't help. Ooops.. *about six months later* The exhaust middle box was blowing and I knew the manifold was iffy, so I decided to buy an Ashley 4-1 cos it was cheap and also a VW manifold back new system cos working with rusty exhaust joints is just hassle! Pile of bits Comparison between Ashley and old exhaust. Poles apart. This sounded awesome along with the K&N panel filter I acquired from eBay, but it was not long until The clutch died :( After much fiddling around with a golf which stayed on axle stands for about 3 weeks at Prodigal Son's house, I eventually finished it. Initially, I had done it quickly but not lined up the flywheel dowels correctly and as such the gearbox wouldn't go back on. I threw a 2-week hissy fit and stayed inside :( :( :( Stupid box :@ I built up the courage and finished it, and was rewarded by a clutch pedal with a bite point! Wow :D  Soon after that, it had it's MOT and I was told the back half was pretty rotten. So i patched it up enough to pass and then sold it to recoup the costs... It was a shame as I had big things planned... Still have this book, it's actually quite fun to read!

Sweet Moses. is THAT Burgundy pearl???   I'm trying to work out which one to use as my desktop :shocked!: -
if you want a cheap one which does the job but has shoddy welds try the Ashey. Mine was £200 delivered i think. This would also be for a KR though, not 9A.

Swarfega ftw!!!! man, shampoo can't touch engine oil, it's too lame. I ended up using real soap. that cut through it nice! man, swarfega dispenser in the bathroom would be EEEleet. it was good effort by both yeah, if I wasnt running so low on blood-sugar, I think some of my suggestions wouldn't have been so lame. I'm glad you were too cold to laugh at me, was nice :D note to all: engine oil spillages on driveways - crumble up some washing tablets or use washing powder and scrub like mad. Comes up shineeeyyy!!

The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
boost monkey replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
those 17mm horizontal balljoint bolts i'm sure are some kind of steel/evil alloy. It was cos of excess fuel, but only cos the Lamb was telling the chip to pump more through. It wuld be interesting to see whether leaving a broken cat in an Emissions-OK car would actually increase the HC or CO content of the exhaust gas at the backbox... -
Who? who did that? :thumb right: Ha ha, it was a good joint effort :D 8) It was hard work but we got there in the end. I was also glad to have regained circulation to my lower extremities, and after my third shower the oil is out of my hair. WooT! Emissions are gonna get o w n e d. They can't stop the Bro-Team?!

woah, deja vu. twice.
-
Door seals. The big one-piece that goes between the door and shell. All my mk2s have leaked here.
-
has it been overfilled with oil? A golf I had ran fine until the oil pressure climbed due to me dropping a gear to overtake. All of a sudden, instant Nimbus maker :(

What is this Optiflex of which you speak? :?
-
Aha ok, that explains it! :D
-
Thinking about it for like 2 mins could it not be overfuelling? That would explain the smoke and the hesistancy to rev. Also, the boost pressure spiking so quickly makes me think that perhaps the charger isn't spinning freely: perhaps it's getting 'stuck' and then the load from the belt and pulley is causing it to kind of leap to boost, causing your guage to spike... I'm sorry this isn't a very technical explanation. ^^ if this was true, that would coincide with the car overfuelling to being with (due to charger not providing air at the stoich. ratio) and then do the whole spiking thing, balancing out the AFR. Of course I don't know the specifics of the G-lader and whether those things are entirely possible but it's always good to have more engineers working on something. :?

lol!! I saw this video earlier, that scooby guy cannot drive: he seems to change up really low, like idle speed or something silly. plus the obviously 4wd pwer loss the scooby is suffering is not helping at all on those rolling starts, and.... uh... nothing... *jumps back on Raddo bandwagon* ha ha ha....ha ha....ha..... :ignore:

Love the thread buddy! Always good to see some in progress pics on a project car. I just have to ask though... was there a reason to the black intake manifold?
-
it's up on vortex I think, somethink like 100kg together springs to mind, but i might be way out.

I swapped it for a 20p mix-up. I love cola bottles too much
