would you consider a corrado a classic turned away at car show
James. replied to ross k's topic in Off-topic Chat
And what was his interpetation of a classic ? Personally I think the term "Classic" is banded about too often, when "Old car" would suffice. An alleggro is an old car but is it a classic ? Personally not, though I'm sure those at practical classics would disagree. I'd be keen to hear from the organisers regarding entrance criteria. If for nothing more than curiosity. -
VW All Types North Wales 19th - 20th May

Last I heard, a lad in Bristol had it. What year did you own it ? -
Lovely MK2 and fair play for sticking with the price on the Corrado.

Alright as a weekend thing, but as a daily they do tend get too dirty from the natural oils on your hands very quickly.
-
There's always about six at the NEC classic car show, and yes they are seldom seen on the road. But as mentioned before, so are Corrados. Great looking car all the same.

Add to the fact that most people (unless wanting OE levels of originality) would go for the far superior "Climatronic" install. I think £80-90 is about right. Why not bung it on ebay and see what bites.

If nothing else, you could identify whether it is the heater matrix by by-passing it. Plus it is summer, so wouldn't have thought you'd need much heat at this time of the year.

Aghhh, beat me to it.

Congrats on the purchase, and double congrats on giving the old girl a cosmetic rewind. Always pleases my eyes when originality gets splashed about. Looks in fair fettle and all those little jobs are on here in the search. Welcome aboard.

As far as I can remember, the sunroof cassette is only available as a complete unit. So may be worthwhile buying a complete unit, refurbing it, replacing the one you have and keeping the original one for spares. ---------- Post added at 11:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:18 PM ---------- Remove the motor from the mechanism (but not the power supply) and check that if runs freely. If it doesn't, then it's the motor. If it does, then it's the sunroof cassette.

Even if you buy a second hand unit, you could be in the same position in twelve months time. Take the opportunity to strip down the unit and re-grease the runners/cables. I clean mine with petrol. Wash it all down with hot water and fairy liquid. Then finish it off with a buttering of lithium based grease. Done three like this now and they work ten times better than before. Allow yourself a full day to do this.

No problem Tom. Many thanks for your effort. I'll swerve the ashpan holder as it was a tag on purchase for the seals. Thanks once again, James.

I used to get some dogs in the back of my car ( back in my salad days ). But none of them moulted like that. Is everything a straight swap on a conversion like this ?

I'm hearing you. I await your next update with keen interest. Thanks, James

Just spotted there's a vintage/retro fair on in the Hall on the day as well. So there really is something for everyone. There was some great stalls at the one last year. The local Ford Mexico owners club (six of them) even lined up outside for a brief photo shoot. https://www.facebook.com/wiganvintagecraftfair Weather wise, the BBC says 16deg and clear in the afternoon.

Crumbs. Didn't realise you were on here Buster (Gonad).

Same again on the crank sensor.

Let me know how you get on with the wiper seals. Thanks James.
-
Don't forget the for sale ads on the BM owners club forums. Better condition cars/higher prices etc etc. Hope it all works out.

Please may I have: Drivers door outer window wiper seal. Passenger door outer window wiper seal. Console ashtray mounting ( the ashtray slides into this part). Obviously subject to condition and price (posted). Many thanks, James

Not going to push the boat out far enough for parts cover but you've confirmed what I already thought. Thanks for the concise replies everyone.

Planning a couple of big (for me that is) trips in the coming months. Staying within the UK though. Any advice on who to go with ? AA seems the best bet from here. Or am I missing something ? Thanks, James

They were available last year. £38 each if I remember. At that price I gave them a swerve. But as said before, they do pop up from time to time.
