Just wanna gauge your thoughts on what I'm willing to do to get myself back into a VR. Would you do the same? Have you done the same? or are in a similier position financially as a consequence? I understand their may be some bias here as I'm on Corraddo appreciation forum  Stats: Need 6keuro to purchase, travel, pay duty & insure the new dream car. Have only 3k in bank for said car. Dilemma is thus, do I top up my already big'ish bank loan for the other 3k????

Hey Jords, as the guys above said, there's a general 'tell me about it' vibe with these stories. I had an 1999 S3, looked stunning (pic attached - i think!) real head turner blah blah, I got it back from local garage early this year and it was flying. Then two days later one of the rear wheels collapses inwards, knackering the axle, destroying the suspension arm, gear linkage etc etc. I hated it from that day on and couldn't wait to get rid. But it wasn't just the wheel problem, I never really liked it in the first place - I wasn't connected to it the way I was to my old green VR. Yeah, it had issue's, (que violins and me looking off into the distance!) but really only three majors probs. The first was coolant hose/ new radiator: common prob so fair play. 2nd was Heater Matrix: again common issue. And third was my own doing by buying the cheapest tyre/alloy package and not getting properly balanced and having to fork out on new tyres. Total damage over that year was 2k. I'd walk right up to the guy who bought off me and get her back but I've not a bean to spend, and I'm now driving a 1.2 1996 Clio :brickwall: So be thankful for that at least  Personally, I'd moth-ball it and come back to it later with some love

There's never a bad time to buy a Corrado  I hear ya though, some real peaches out there now for good money. That said, it is good to see the mint cars with low mileage and top condition still holding 4k figures. Call me crazy, but I'd still spend 4k on a VR if it was 10/10 across the board. As for smiles per miles, you mentioned an M3, i just got rid of a 1999 Audi S3 and it wasn't a patch on the VR in almost all departments, looks, handling, speed, feel etc.

where do I start mate  Love the car - praise the lowered :notworthy: The rear lamps I wasn't sure about, but look well cool on yours electric seats - 'nice action' as Alan Partridge would say Oh, and the kermit pic -

got tango'd at the light by a Porsche Jeep, can't ever spell it tight. And weren't the Turbo one either :brickwall: my excuse is pish poor clutch control leading to a strange jack-rabbit start I've never done before  I must've had the revs up quite high and dropped in the clutch late in 1st and the S3 just sort've shot forward. Must've looked weel stupid. First nothing, then loud revs and then ''POW'' were off! I was still 5 car lengths behind  :epicfail:

Here she is - having to sell now though due to credit munch :( Any Irish S3 lovers out there? Absolute steal and running like a dream. -
well there's my old one - stunning green VR6 on RS4's 17's in Cabinteely, Dublin. A mint blue Storm VR in Kilcoole, Wicklow area - I passed him in my S3 on Fri night and tried to follow ( :help: ) but he/she disappeared - ghost car stylee. Saw a Valver going along Dublin Quays last week. Not in good nick tbf There's actually two in Rathnew, Wicklow. One mint custom paint-job - followed him, a bit more successfully, last year near Druids Glen Golf Club. Damn he was fast! Oh, there's probably my mates old Blue VR in Newcastle, Wicklow. So in conclusion 6 I know of  Oh, and a Red VR belonging to a very helpful chap who loaned me his Haynes (?) manual last year. Let me know if there's a meet up in the pipe-line mate - nice to see some Irish vibes on the 'raddo front :salute:

Corrado 'not' spotting - it wasnt you of course
sprinterVR6 replied to fla's topic in General Car Chat
great thread :salute: I did not see a Corrado today. I very much doubt I will one tomorrow But if/when I do lose my job next month ( :confused4: ) I will see one. I will drive to the kindly old Doctor I sold mine too, who parks it inside the Surgery car-park. It's metel fenced in. so I except an Alan Partridge moment (''Help me Lynne, I've put my foot on a spiiiiiike) -
Similier experiance regarding Mr Plod. Was parked up in top level Tesco carpark taking some shots of the car prior to selling :brickwall: Needless to say it was gleaming and looking stunning :notworthy: Plod roll in as I'm bopping and diving round the car takes pictures ''Show me angry'' yeah Baby! ''lower your suspension a little'' oh that's it! your so hot tight now!! etc etc Plod winds window down, 'nice car that (me: um yeah, i like ot keep it clean :confused4: ) 'must be hard sticking to the speed limit'. coppers eh, Boom Boom

Help! Rear wheel has collapsed in - Audi S3 '99
sprinterVR6 replied to sprinterVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Update: No Audi (st)Dealer over here will touch my S3 regarding recall on broken part. As it turned out I broke the rear suspension completely, took out one of the tracking arms and bust the gear linkage seal which explains the gear fluid everywhere  -
Whats involved buying a car from Isle of Man
sprinterVR6 replied to iow_corrado_g60's topic in General Car Chat
''why buy from IOM'' Well I was very close to going over last year for a mint MK3 Golf GTi 16v. It ticked every single box. Gleaming red w/tidy black trim (not faded), sunroof, RS4 Alloys, neat twin back box, the lot. And I was coming from Ireland  If it's the car for him, then go get'm Tiger! :salute: -
Help! Rear wheel has collapsed in - Audi S3 '99
sprinterVR6 replied to sprinterVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Well well: Official recall A3 Quattro and S3 25/9/2001: On cars built up to March 2000 the bottom rear hub carrier ball joint can corrode and seize, leading to the lower suspension arms snapping at the hub ends. Owners to call Audi Customer Services on 0800 699 888 -
Help! Rear wheel has collapsed in - Audi S3 '99
sprinterVR6 replied to sprinterVR6's topic in General Car Chat
thanks for reply. It didn't feel very different after fitting the tyres. Just the usual 'bedding' in feeling. That said, the roads round my way are shocking, and looking at the linkage that's come apart, it looks like a big crack on a pothole would unsettle it. Which doesn't bode very well to be fair. -
last night while reversing my 1999 S3 into drive way, heard load clunk! and got out to see by rear drivers side wheel had collapsed in under the arch about 3/4inch. On closer inspection - the 'tracking arm' (?) has popped out of the ball and socket type thingy  Also the brake lines obviously being cut as there fluid all over the place. My questions range from: How bad is this? What other structural damage has been done Anyone similier experiance - cost? Was there talk of a mass recall on this back in the day? Additional note: Just got car back from local type fitters after having 225/40/R18 Eagles F1 put on - could these two events be linked? Any help be very welcome :salute:

pretty much agree with all of the above. Maybe 'reliable' the only word I'd re-consider  but you do hear quite a few 'my c has never let me down' stories too which is good. A mint/tight 944 Turbo would be the only choice really unless lucky enough to afford the big daddy 911 :notworthy: Also keen on the Audi S2 coupe - another classic sleeper A few nice 911 (964's) available now for just over ten grand. For those of you in UK :bad-words: Check out the '99 996 for under 13k on autotrader - must be something up  All said and done, unless you need cash quick, or the car needs mega £k's spent or you've suddenly got £10k to spend - I just can't see past the VR6. ''CLINK''

check out the link below the narrative - ''More pictures of VW Corrado'' - never seem so many pics of the C. Some fruity custom jobs but alot of stunning examples - and even a Corrado Convertable in there too! A years worth of screensavers

Pirelli PZero Rosso's 225/40/R18 - Any good??
sprinterVR6 replied to sprinterVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Yeah, I saw that  But I love living in the past! Got my Old S3 with tape deck as standard. Playing me old 'Now that's what I call Music 3'! Driving round listen to Fred Durst 'Nookie' - that's track 9  -

While digging round found this handy Tyre Test including all the main names, Pirelli, Bridge, Goodyear. Happy to see the Eagle F1's shining through  Hope this linky works - Right, I've botched it - hope you can navigate through to it though  www.tirerack.com www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=69 -

Cracking work BILLCOR!! Found the site and the Eagle F1's are £98 a corner!! All in with Delivery to Dublin, Ireland works out at 110euro a corner, which is nuts for over here. Bought over here through money grapping st'ealers be about 170euro a pop :cuckoo: Thanks again, I can look forward to roundabouts again  -
Pirelli PZero Rosso's 225/40/R18 - Any good??
sprinterVR6 replied to sprinterVR6's topic in General Car Chat
That's good enough for me! A mate of mine swears by BF Goodrich whenever I bring tyres up. Not that I actually bring tyres up  That would be gross, or a neat party trick, but would put people off smoking i should think -
Just looking for feedback on these tyres for my 1999 Audi S3. Are they anygood? Better or worse then Goodyear Eagle F1's. Had then on the old VR6 and they were magic. Cheers Ps: Keeping the S3 now after it came back from pricey engine 'clean-up' + service and is driving much better

After 2 years away, I've just bought back my Corrado
sprinterVR6 replied to corradophil's topic in General Car Chat
nice one. Great story mate. ''their funny old cars''. Agree big time with that. This gets me thinking, I must check in on the Doctor I sold my green VR to back in Feb now I'm (fingers crossed) back on the look out :D I used to drive, quite literaly out've my way! to just grab a peek where he had it parked up during work. Ain't been by for months, and last time it was'nt there, Maybe it's gone :( Man, I miss not having a C! It's the silly little things isn't it? Like after start up watching the Temp. reading creep up to 84! as you cruise along slowly anticipating the first surge  and as your sat there letting everyone roll past , you see people checking it out! Wondering why the sporty looking car is going so slow...Just give it time.....82,83....84  Right, that's it!!! www.autotrader   -
total agreement with Pete_griff on this one. I can only assume that maybe while you love the C right down to your toes, your wanting something a bit more modern that will give you the smile factor?? I could be way off here! I had the same situation last summer. Sold the VR as was only way out've financial situ. Then once money picked up went shopping - 'cept insurance issue meant having to get smaller engine so now drive S3. It's no comparison. Will be back in a VR soon as possible. That said, if your throwing down 8, 9 maybe 10k on new car that ticks your boxs it is quite hard to see past a mint well maintained VR6. I'd never drive a M3/scooby/evo(too in ya face), modern GTi(their flip'n everywhere) or anything French(hate walking) so it's really very limiting
