to VR or not to VR...that is the question.....
chrishill replied to swfblade's topic in General Car Chat
never having driven a g60 I cant comment on which is better. What I can say is that the VR is nice and relaxed when you want it to be, but you can easily provoke it into a more exciting drive. I suppose since I was used to driving the 16v before the VR I was already driving high up the rev range, which is where you need to be in the VR to tap into the real power, although theres still bags low down, doing 40mph in 5th is fairly comfortable, although you sort of need to do that to keep petrol consumption down ;) s/c VR is a different beast again. I've driven chrisvr6 nos's too and its alot more lively lower down than a n/a VR, but the relaxed feel of the engine is still there for when you want it. -
raped it for parts :(

ah! yes, the 90bhp is the TDi, the 74bhp is the TD and the 64bhp is the D... phew!
-
actually theres conflicting info on the parkers site, at one point it says the tdi is 90bhp, and elsewhere it says 74bhp... unless they were revamped at a later date? what years yours blackcat?
-
what? those little whistle things? they'd be rubbish! ;)

a dongle is a copy protection device used with software which is either so vastly expensive that the makers dont want it ripping off, or so sensitive they dont want it to 'fall into the wrong hands'. generally they plug into the back of your computer and tell it you're not evil so it lets you run the program in question.

according to parkers tech info pages walesy, yeah, all non-turbot diesels are 64bhp of raw beast! still, thats about 1.4 polo power so its adiquate if not rip snortingly speedy.
-
a heady 64bhp Mr TAFKACW, congratulations! :D
-
could be the bracket for the ABS sensor thingy? is it plastic?
-
yeah the mk3 tdi's are about 90bhp, but then its not really about the performance with these cars is it.

its all a scam! according to this article Merc knew the system wouldnt work, but agree'd to 'simulate' the effects of the system using manual braking and a plank of wood... it went a bit wrong. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/11/29/mercedes_brake_test_fiasco/ -
ultimate diesel!? that sounds almost cool! ;) yeah, i think the sensible option would be the TDI, while it'd be nice to have bags of bhp to play with, a £950 GTI is going to be nowt but trouble where as a £1500 tdi should be fairly sound, plus the fuel savings. just got to wait for the insurance check to come and hope the mystic blue tdi i've seen is still for sale in a week or so's time. mystic blue... might stick a storm badge on it ;)
-
cool, thanks BC, didnt know about the more regular oil/filter changes. hmmm, now what to do... mk3 gti for £950 and insure for £1100 or mk3 tdi for £1500 and insure for £600. works out at the same price, but do I choose frugal and sensible or a bit more fun? :?

There really are some jelous tossers out there
chrishill replied to veeDuB_Rado's topic in General Car Chat
little twonks, i say if you know 100% it was them, no doubt in your mind what-so-ever, give them a 'stern talking to' and a few 'dirty looks' when you can get them on their own. BTW - stern talking to's in the kidneys and dirty looks along the hairline tend not to show bruses. ;) love-yoghurt in the battery compartment? -
sexy, but well over my budget, looking at about £1500 TBH, just want a cheapo runabout for a year or so! did the late mk3's not have the PD engine?
