  1. if you're going to the hasstle of an engine swap you might as well go the whole hog and fit a 1.8t, its more tunable than the g60 anyway. I think the going rate is somewhere close to 2.5k for the labour then the cost of the engine on top of that. a slightly cheaper option would be to turbo the engine you have, but i'd suggest getting it rebuilt first so you know its going to hold up to the power.
  2. yeah but it had a square steering wheel...SQUARE!
  3. aye, it had a big chrome (probably just painted silver) grille on it and faux-wood trim inside, i thought it was a rollsroyce. ahhh nostalgia!
  4. :offtopic1: heh, my mum had a sunbeam (although not the lotus incarnation) followed by an allergo vandem plas, then a mustard/brown saab 96 which looked like a big steel poo. she got class my mum. edit - for the sake of completion, heres a titanium-turd look a like.
  5. I had simular problems, swapped the ECU relay and its fine now, changed the fuel pump relay first but it still stalled. Nothing to say both the ecu and fuel pump relay hadn't got problems i suppose.
  6. i dunno, but against my dads old Talbot Solara you'd have NO chance.
  7. @ that escort behind your car!
  8. theres a sticky somewhere about the differences, they're subtle. Came about when the VR6 was launched (1992?), which replaced the g60, so as far as i know, all g60s have the early style body/interior (could be wrong!) valver is always going to be more economical than the g60, thou i dont think its by much.
  9. your budget would get you a nice 1.8 or 2.0 16v, or a 'fair' g60 which may need a little work. performance wise theres very little in it between the 1.8 and the 2.0, the 1.8 has no cat where as the later 2.0 does, and the larger capacity compensates for the power it saps. the 2.0 will have the later style body/interior which I think is a little nicer than the early style, though theres not much difference. g60 rules the roost in terms of tuing potential, 200+ bhp is do-able, but as I say i think your budget would get you one that needs work. best of luck finding the one you want! :D
  10. looks like b6 passat crammed onto a mk5 golf chassis to try and make a coupe type thing! me no likey!
  11. mine does the same, i think it may be a 'feature' :?
  12. well TBH thats the route I would have taken too for fear of getting myself in deeper do-do, hopfully they wont be too hard on you. I had a mate who had a smash in her mgtf, had it fixed and was going a bit mad on the drive back from the bodyshop since she was chuffed to be back in it and free of the corsa she'd had for best part of a month. anyway, she got snapped doing around 80 in a 30, I thought she'd get banned for sure but she got a 3 pointer due to the speed limit on the road she was driving on being under review... lucky fecker.
  13. not that i'm aware of, if your policy says you can drive other cars 3rd party, then as far as i know you can just hop in anyones car (with their permission!) and away you go. I suppose they might require proof that the person who says they were driving has that option on their policy, but thats probably about all.
  14. 140 and he got points+fine?! i thought anything above the ton was an instant ban?
  15. they could have had 3rd party cover on their policys to allow them to drive it? could they not?
  16. sorry to hear style dynamix arent working out for you leavon, nothing but helpful when I used them 6 months ago. :(
  17. taxi for Mr Glitter! :D where you from white_vw_corrado? I remember a white valver in sunderland when I worked on the business park down there, not you is it?
  18. shame the plod dont use higher resolution cameras really, it'd make a lovely action-shot!
  19. odd... i thought I replied to this earlier! yeah like david said, they're closely related to the mk2 but handle better! supercharging a 16v is a tricky route to take, most opt for turbos instead.
