I tried to watch fifth gear last week and got bored, tiff's reviewing style hasnt moved on much since that g60 review, its all matter of fact monologue drivel. Like you paul, i rate plato, for saying he started out as a racing driver hes a better presenter than alot of other people on TV, its just a shame hes stuck on c5. Did anyone ever watch 'A car is born' or any of the other 'a xxxx is born' shows? very home-made style show but massivly interesting. In the first series the guy built an AC cobra replica in a little garage using an old ford as a donar car and took you through the process step by step, then he restored a e-type jag in a bigger garage with more of a budget, then built a helcopter then a plane... amazing to see how this guys skills progressed since IIRC he was a Vet by trade and knew very little before he built the Cobra.

about 3 years ago when I owned my ashtray, me and a mate were driving through town on the way to meet some people for a few bevvies, it'd pretty much just stopped raining and the road was a little slippery, that combined with a patch of diesel on the road, an overly tight corner and my lack of experiance in crash-avoidence driving resulted in whats below. turned into the corner and the car didnt do anything, just slithered into curb, bounced up about 3ft off that and smashed into a 5ft steel barrier, which stopped us from traveling into the path of oncoming traffic. My mate was fine save for a sore sholder off the seatbelt and I only tw@tted my head off the window, which hurt but is hardly an injury! to this day you can see a red streak of paint on the middle rail of the barrier on that corner!

yeah he knows, and yeah its likely to be VERY aukward, but you know the problems hes having with his v5 so i guess theres not much that can be done. I could put it on retention for him but I dont have the cash spare to do it at the moment. -

the problem with buying it back is that i wouldnt be able to insure it after its repaired, and selling on a cat C car is difficult at the best of times let alone with how the second hand market is now. I'll ask if the cars availible for others to buy from the insrance company, I doubt they'll want much for it if it is. -
not bad for a quick 5min effort before i go home for the day!
-
sadly its looking that way mate, just waiting to hear from the insurance company :(
-
Hi mate, I see you signed up then! look at the dish on those rears...holy poo! :D

one sentance should suffice "your sales team will no longer be reguarded as w*nkers" sit back, fold your arms and wait for the job offers to come rolling in. seriously, and sorry if you've thought of this already, if they're buying the cars rather than leasing them then they'll be interested in residual value and (I guess) servicing etc as it'll come out of their own pockets rather than the lease company. In terms of job skills it shows long sightedness and planning for the furture rather than the here-and-now impact.

poking out of a hole in the bonnet like the auzzy subaru tuners seem to love doing? mounted on the steering wheel? erm... oh i dunno... grafted onto the inside of one of those old virtual reality headsets which has live images from a bumper mounted camera beamed into your eyes for you to wear while driving? :?

love the curve the half open front/back windows make, how long did it take you to line them up? looks wicked though mate -
well, at the end of the day he still has a mint g40 which he knows is sound since he built it and will have alot of fun driving it, I'd say dont stress over the 'Q' plate, dont let it ruin the hours of graft you've put in to building the car and the pleasure you'll (or rather he'll) get from owning it.

typical woman, paying no attention to the road whatsoever! *puts on flame suit and prepares to get battered by all the female forum members*

a 'Q' plate could effect the resale if you're selling to joe public, but since its the sort of car an enthusiast would be likely to buy I dont think it'll cause too many problems. If they're in the know about g40's and can see you've done a good job then you shouldnt have a problem. on a side note, can you put private plates on a 'Q' plater?

Some good advice needed (Radweld question with prob history)

Rica, I've had the exact same problem for a while now, driving along normally and the engine momentarily cuts out, and before I've recovered from nutting the windscreen its back to normal and I'm wondering if it ever really happened! does reseating the relays cure the problem for a bit? it seems to with mine. I thought it was the fuelpump relay to start with but swapping that didnt seem to work. Depending on the outcome of my accident I'll have to try swapping the ecu relay too, but chances are I wont have to worry about it :( just thought i'd add my 2p and let you know you're not alone in your indavertant kangaroo hopping! -
 think of the paintwork!! ;)

they quite often release a few cars to nissan staff, i saw a few (a while ago) new micras tooling about washinton/sunderland and dad was lucky enough to borrow a pre-release 350z just before they came out. not sure what one would be doing up in glasgow though!

i hear what you're saying, but its not really an option. I thought about buying it backto break it since we all know they're worth more that way but I dont have the time/space/skils to do it. -

right, quick update, went to the coachworks this afternoon and the guy who looked the car over has put it down for a new rear wing on the passenger side and a new passenger door, he also said they'd have to replace the wheels since they're badly kurbed and 'you cant do anything with a chrome finish' even though I pointed out they're not chrome, they're just polished, and not very polished at that. Anyway, he reckons the chances are with the work involved its likely it'll be declared a total loss, although its now in the hands of the insurance company. This weekend I will be mostly removing all salvagable parts!! dont think they'd be too happy if i turned up to hand it over fully stripped but I'm damn sure i'll be taking out all my audio gear and suchlike. gutted TBH, although under the curcumstances its probably the best result, I get a cheque for the car and dont get stuck trying to sell a crashed/repaired car for next to nowt. The cheque should mean I can get a cheap runaround and insure it and build up my no-claims again (hopfully) but sadly it'll mean the end of an otherwise very very happy couple of years of motoring in corrados :( -
'No claims in the last 12 months and max of one claim in previous 3 years' :(
-
that does sound cheap, but it depends on where you live and so on, I've got 2 fault claims against me now too. worth checking out, although I'm leaning towards a (gulp) polo! :(
-
changing the gearbox mount to anything other than a VAG or OEM one will give you harsh vibrations from what I hear, the front mounts a good upgrade though

the first one on the list, taking supercars to the bridge, should make for some very interesting footage, that bridge really is MASSIVE! iirc its above the cloudline so if they got a cloudy day it'll look bloody amazing
