'pumping' was a technique I used to employ in the valver if i locked up, which it did a few times. tug, wait til its wet and get on an empty bit of road then stamp on the brakes, even at low speeds it should be enough to envoke a skid, if the brake peddle judders like a mad thing and you hear the tell tale 'd-d-d-d-d-d-d' noise, your ABS is working ;)

it did it again today, utterly failed to fire on numerous attempts. I'd not had time to investigate fully, just happy it seemed to be working again until now. Anyway, as I was turning the key there was a wurring humming sound coming from where the fuses are, so i quickly wipped off the cover and found at least 4 for the relays werent seated correctly, mostly pushed 'up' a little, so i reseated them (read shoved them in properly) and it fired first time! god knows how they came loose, I'll take them out and reseat them properly later on and hopfully that should solve that!

Ask chrisvr6nos about his navigating a unexpected round-a-bout at high speed with the aid of ABS, it works if his experience is anything to go by. Mine seems pretty good, it kicked in the other day when some loony old biddy pulled out on me at a junction and the roads were wet, probably would have hit her if I'd locked up. Depends what you're going to use the car for I guess, is it going on the road as a daily driver or a weekend track toy?

cheap runabout and S3 dont normally go together, but it does look smart... black Audi...mmmmm!

sunroof was an option on early cars, I'd imagine g60's are fairly rare in the states anyway, let alone sunroofless ones! nice to see you rebuilt it rather than killing it off, looks like a good 'un too.

I'm at a loss for words, this so called 'max power generation' of modifiers are getting out of hand!
-
nothings impossible. I beleive Phatvr6 has a porsche steering wheel either in or planned to go in to his corrado, how, I'm not sure.

getting hold of a standard item might be tricky, but audioscape do 'stealth shelves' in all sorts of colours, one of which is beige and has the added bonus of allowing you to hide a set of 6x9's underthem should you wish to.

yeah i thought they were around the £60 mark, pricy but worth it in the long run I think. I suppose if I'm resigned to buying a new one i might as well try pulling the old one to bits and fixing it first really, I'll have a bash this weekend and take photos for a 'how to' in case I manage to fix it!

found it, cheers jim... not sure i'm up to replacing the bearings with some from a RC monster truck axel though...:!: might just invest in a new one like you did and be done with it given that many people said that once its dead, its dead.

After driving about in the bitter cold last night trying to demist my front windscreen with a heater fan thats louder than a low flying 747 I think its about time I tackled the issue. I bought a 'new' one off ebay a while back since the one that was in the car had the same overly vocal tendancys, it was fine save for a little squeak which I cured with some white grease sprayed into the holes at the base of the fan, but now its started making a real racket. Is it possible to dismantle them for repair? From memory it didnt look too easy to get apart so does anyone have any advice on how to silence it once and for all without buying a brand new unit?

theres got to be a way of linking up an alarm to the spoiler to make it raise at the touch of a button... that'd be well smart...

its been said before, but its a sad fact that most of the people working in dealerships, and not just VAG ones, dont share the same passion for cars that some of the customers do, still, you would think they'd recognise older models a little more accuratly!

you dont know until you try PB, I noticed virtually no difference in performance or running issues when I fitted mine, slightly more responsive throttle but thats about it, no negative effects that I can tell although maybe I'm less sensitive to subtle changes than others.
-
86k! thats a rarity these days. I've got a K&N on mine, and I can see why they're not to everyones tastes but its not 'that' loud unless you're really hooning it about. Looks like a lovely example PB, welcome to the site

how much did it set you back if you dont mind me asking?
-
aye the g/f's little lass has the same opinion of mine, its a 'cool sports car' apparently!

those audis are nice, but like dinkus said I dont think it counts as a family car any more than a corrado does, and i dont relish the thought of having to wrestle a baby into the back of a C! this is sort of where the conversation started since we both own cars that'd be entirly impractical if we had familys.
-
thats exceptionally cheap!

what are the 1.8T's like in terms of running costs out of interest? the fact its got a turbo always makes me think its going to be expensive to maintain

I've heard good things about them, but for the money its unlikely you'd find a 01> mondeo.

the electrical faults with the laguna helps since my only reasoning against them up until now was that they're french! I've had poor experiances with ford in the past which make it quite easy to argue against them. The accord's not a bad suggestion, i'd imagine they're fairly well equipt and reliable. henny your mates passat sounds like a corker for the cash, part of my argument is that around 100k miles on a VW engine isnt all that much, but it lowers the price meaning you get more car for your cash.

I kinda like the stock look for the grille TBH! black VW badges never 'did it' for me...

debating with a co-worker over good, cheap, relyable family cars. I'm of the opinion (being a touch biased) that a higher milage A4 or passat would make a perfectly good family waggon since they're fairly cheap (we're setting a 'for example' price of about 3k) will be bombproof being part of the VAG range and look reasonably nice. He on the other hand swings towards the likes of the laguna and focus. can anyone add weight to my argument since I've got little experiance of living with any of these cars!
