  1. Kickstarter?! I don't remember the game Elite, but I do remember KickStart from the 80s! They should bring that back on Saturday mornings !..and Jossys Giants!
  2. Absoloutely love the look of your car, great attention to detail on the sound deadening and rattle suppression..The number plate also really enhances the appeal for me. I am not usually an advocate of personalised plates, but feel with older classics like the Corrado it helps to distinguish it in the eyes of other less well appraised road users that the car is something other than an old banger!..Definitely on the lookout for a plate with initials and number 6 in it..
  3. since reading this thread I have checked the wiring and also the battery. Replaced the battery with new Bosch Heavy Duty item, which in itself seems to have transformed the car electricaly speaking. I also now have a small powder fire extinguisher in the cabin and a larger one in the boot!!..
  4. ..obviously if the rear arches need cutting out etc then I would probably give it a miss, but minor bodywork issues on an old car are less off putting to me than mechanical/electrical items not working. I believe this philosophy is why I have (touch wood) never had a breakdown in any of my 5 Corrados. I pay top money to get a mechanicaly good one, from an owner who could afford to maintain it rather than get a cheap one as a project and proceed to chase issues round the car!..
  5. I would love to say yes to a Carbon Fibre bonnet to paint, but alas I just cannot justify the expense at the moment, maybe in a couple of months?!..I would also prospectively be very interested in the front wings, obviously to paint as well. So hopefully there may be another opportunity later in the year.. I appreciate the cost envolved in the production of these parts in the materials concerned and the significant benefits associated..but, they will be expensive purchases for most..so, if a regular yearly or 6 monthly group buy was set up so people had time to save up/allocate funds that would be good?!..
  6. to be honest I always look at mechanical condition with a Corrado as the most important thing to me. I would not reject a car for a spot or 2 of superficial rust. These are old cars now and even the best maintained examples can develop rust almost overnight!. A well maintained car should always be in good mechanical condition, with all electrics and controls working. If not I usually wonder what else people have let go?! For example a broken spoiler could just be viewed as non-essential and let slide as a job, more than one thing not working though and I start to ask serious questions!..what else has the owner let sliide? could the owner afford routine maintenance?! These are cheap cars at the momment which is worrying from the point of view rthat a lot of people can now afford them that cannot afford to maintain them properly. I always look for a detailed service history and everything working? spec and colour less important as are stonechips on bonnet and minor rust on front wings /badges etc.
  7. Unlucky fella, persevere with it, the rewards are worth it I reckon.
  8. Looks very nice. I've always used black matts with beige carpets, nice contrast and gives people a subtle clue where to stick their muddy boots!..
  9. Welcome, hope you enjoy your first Valver as much as I did
  10. Yeah, get joined up to CCGB and keep it for the Anniversary year at least. I am on my fifth now and keep coming back to them, always regret selling one after a few weeks, sometimes almost immediately. I've just got back from a motorway Xmas tour of England (Surrey, Kent coast, Birmingham, Durham) and the VR6 was sublime, dangerously so with the acceleration and cruising ability. Had the best of intentions on the Xmas roadtrip, keep the revs down and go for economy and a leisurely pace...but, as always I found myself randomly decelerating and accelerating up to speed again just to listen to the noise and experience the way it piles on speed over 4k revs..result 22 mpg average over approx 1000 brilliant miles!.. It's gotta be a keeper?!
  11. I run 3cm lowered suspension with standard wheels/tyres and am very happy with the way the car feels. I have considered going larger 16/17 wheels with low profile tyres but think the ride would just be too crashy, it would look ace though..
  12. Welcome..top name, top car choice, top effort running one with children (100 bonus man points)..you my friend are living it right!..hopefully see you at some meets in 2013 Ben
  13. Good luck! Maybe try driving in a country where they actually invest in road surface quality?!!! Nothing could improve the way my car rides on the appalling surfaces around where I live, roads dug up every 5minutes, roads left with huge pot-holes and speed humps installed everywhere in blanket fashion!
  14. maybe take the Passat for a bag of sand, run both and decide which you like whilst simultaneously having both up for sale (pistonheads a good place to start in my opinion). The Passat could be a nice little earner towards your Corrado dream ultimately?!..
  15. RS5 obviously a formidable car, but as with most modern performance cars the performance isnt really fun to use on the road without threatening your licence. That is why I buy cars such as the VR6 and BMW E36 M3s etc, fun at lower speeds HYaving said all that there are some days when I wish I could just jump in something like an RS5 for a long motorway journey
  16. definitely report to Police, as there may be a spate of it in the area. If so they will prioritise resources to it and may well mount surveillance or increase patrols. Some people who do this are serial offenders who often do it in similar locations time after time (eg route back from pub, booze makes them hateful etc). It was probs random, unfortunate timing though..You havent been doing anything you shouldnt have with anyone you shouldnt have? maybe you were parked over someones perceived parking space?! there are a lot of venemous cowardly cretins out there, who see this sort of thing as justified rather than leaving a note or having a po,lite word!.. ---------- Post added at 3:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 3:32 PM ---------- ..obviously speak to your friend too, they may know of suspect characters in the vicinity or be able to chat to fellow neighbours and find out if any such vandalism has occurred previously and not been reported. I would get a quote before deciding whether to go through insurance. Unless the cost was astronomical I wouldnt want to risk my premiums. Good luck with getting it sorted
  17. That looks like a stealth bike!.something Batman would be seen on! Absoloutely lovely
  18. ..that, Sir, looks incredible. Same colour as my car but that paintwork is definitely better than mine, beautiful. Looks like it was a snap taken in 1990s!
  19. The latest Batman, exactly my kind of film..loved it, full marks 10 out of 10..maybe I am just easily pleased!
  20. your car is looking superb, the spec is perfect. Love the plate, looking at getting a unique plate myself. I am not usually a fan of private plates (particularly on mundane stuff), but I think on the Corrado a private plate helps to make it stand out as a modern classic. It sort of takes the car a few rungs up in the average persons perception. I am not a snob, but do notice people who dont know their cars sometimes view my C as purely an old banger! hope you all enjoy Brooklands, great way to spend New Years day
  21. Happy New Year Corradoists everywhere, I look forward to meeting some of you in 2013, the 25th Anniversary year..it promises to be a good one
  22. maybe Ollie, though I am based near Banstead/Sutton, so usually car is around there. I know there is another LC5M owner on here who is around Kingston A3 area regularly too. Mine usually has roofbars and bikeracks on (as the missus says, looking like the Back to the Future car!)..
  23. I think I have replied tyo a similar thread recently. However, for me the Corrado is so close to perfect. If I was to wish VW hadnt discontinued it and had facelifted it instead in 1995-I would like the additions to be standard Air Con/Climate Control, Leather seats as standard, the lovely Sppedline wheels increased in size from 15" to 16", the rear and side indicators smoked, improved Xenon lights, proper wipers, sport suspension option and a Sport exhaust system option. That just about covers it for me
  24. 2013 looks like it will be an awesome year for Corrado ownership, as long as the weather doesnt let us down like it did last summer!
  25. Yeah, I echo the sentiment above. It is a bad time to sell, demand (and hence achievable prices) is always low at this time of year, particularly for larger engine niche models in the current economic climate. The few buyers that are out there looking will find more bargains than at other times of year. A good Corrado VR6 should fetch around £3k plus in warmer months, yet at this time of year would be hovering around the £2k mark.
