About to replace thermostat housing & temp senders
CazzaVR replied to ReekieVR's topic in Engine Bay
too hot, just told them it was for a Corrado and that the engine was the same. Parts came in next day, which is a lot quicker than my locl VW! Also used a Neuspeed stat. Oil temps never go over 100C, water is usually around 70C. They used to be oil 110C max and water 90C max. Has made a real difference! -

Right, these are the Ford bits I got: 1022692 - stat/head seal £1.59 ea x1 1018807 - crackpipe/stat seal £0.85 ea x2 7198663 - sensor seal £0.67 ea x3 1032251 - stat housing £8.35 x1 1032252 - stat housing £8.20 x1 (can't remember which is which, but these are the two smaller housing parts- I bought the large housing part which houses the sensors off Ebay ;) ) 1428105 - screw panhead £0.58 x2 1018814 - screw socket HD £0.53 x2 1018816 - screw socket HD £1.18 x3 1669965 - coolant sensor £8.01 x1 Hope this helps! Didn't need all the screws in the end as some of the old ones were still good. I also didn't replace the two other sensors or the crackpipe, as they were all fine. -

No probs :) Done mine recently, and the only prob I had was removing the allen bolts that attach the coilpack and the stat housing. All of them rounded off. Irwin bolt grippers got them off in a few seconds- wish I'd bought them before starting the job! -

It's definately worth getting the bits from Ford (unless Stinkus has everything you need ;) )- you'll save a fair bit. For example, the blue temp sender is around £6 more from VW! I'll post up some Ford part numbers tonight for you. -
John, you've got a point- would rather use a spanner. Will try and get hold of one. Thanks, Andy- good idea :)
-
Cheers for the responses :) Will have a look at mine soon- will try the pikey method. Anyone got any pics?

My coilies were fitted by a previous owner back in 2003. Just wondering if there was anything I can do to service/maintain them? Any wax/grease etc that anyone can recommend? Also, I don't have the instructions or the C-spanner, and I want to drop them a bit more. How do I do this? Cheers! :)

Nice neighbour! Glad it's sorted :)
-
Me too :) Maybe worth buying a couple of pressure washers ;)
-
Probably a good idea if you still had a look- knowing my luck it's mine that's wrong!
-
Beat you to it, Michelle! Took a quick snap of mine (everything looks a bit rusty! ). You can clearly see the drop link and ARB are mounted above the wishbone. HTH

I'll hold you to that :) No joy- he couldn't give me the paint code and it was too far to travel :(
-
That's good news, matey- apart from waiting sooooo long! Have seen their Z4- not sure what varient it is though. Got big 'Colour Tech' stickers on the side ;)
-
That's the wrong sensor, Gav. Think that's the price for the yellow one (blue on Fords). My local Ford garage got them mixed up too cos of the colour. Mine was £8.01 + VAT, part no. 1669965

BEST PLACE TO GET A SPLITER ? "CHIN SPOILER"
CazzaVR replied to praise b the LOweReD's topic in Suppliers Forum
You can only get 90mm or 50mm. GPC in Luton are prob the cheapest, or you could try Eurocarparts. -
Nice 8)
-
Thanks mate! :)

Hmmm, can't find any pics and mine doesn't have one! It's near the handle near the fuse box tray/cover. It's attached to the cable and it holds the cable to a metal bracket which the handle is also attached to. Anyone got any pics?

Give andy_vw a pm- he's producing some cracking plug 'n' play looms at the mo, with oe connectors and several different options. He's an electrical engineer, so he knows what he's doing ;)

They squeek too  Handling etc will be better, but in my experience the ride definately suffers and the squeeking did my head in after about 5 minutes!
-
Might as well get new ones as they're pretty cheap.
-
Sounds good Dave :) Any chance you could also make the metal bonnet cable clip that always fails? ;)

Good news! 8) Always a bit nerve wracking :?
