  1. very nice work!! i do love this thread :D
  2. its a disgrace is what it is!! but irrespective of the tax side of it oil barrel pries have been around the $80 mark for about 6 weeks IIRC - i had put a couple of rants on here with link to the business insider reports on it in fact todays post says the barrel price is now at its lowest point since 2010 http://uk.businessinsider.com/oil-price-is-falling-2014-11 the petrol companies were seen to rocket prices upwards when the barrel price rose but then are not dropping said prices anywhere near as fast in fact i know that shell for example on v power has only dropped 1p per litre in over 1 week & IIRC its only come down about 3 or 4 pence per litre since oil barrels have stooped to the $80 mark how about the government 'make them' drop prices rather than sit back & 'watch' them do very little but why should they care as i bet most MP's dont even pay for their own fuel!! our government let us the public get spanked left right & centre but they dont give a damn individually as they have their 'expenses'
  3. good on you sean! it should prove interesting :) it always makes me laugh how these dealers cant even post a factually correct advert - how hard is it to look up a colour code lol
  4. me also m8! it makes for very steamy driving in this type of weather too lol ive had a quick search - try this thread for some ideads & its got photos of bits i mentioned http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=75331 let me know how your investigations go & if i have time to look at my valver this weekend i will report back also
  5. good on you for the above info MR L!!
  6. oooo non sunroof!! :) ive just remembered that my mom mentioned about a leak she had in the K plate 2.0 16v when i was attending my VR on sunday. a different scenario but may help. they had water collecting in the boot. it was found to be getting in under the roof rack rails somehow & then running to the back of the roof & into the boot i wonder if it would be possible to do similar but from the front of the roof rack rail are your carpets still down or have you taken them up? i only ask as ive read about a trick with talcum powder where you dust your floor & then pour water from above & the talc highlights the run lines the water takes
  7. Hmmm interesting - i noticed the same with my valver on the weekend but ive not had chance to look yet i was going to test the drivers side front sunroof drain as first port of call if your throttle cable follows the original route i cant see how that would let water in. have you any sign or dampness on the inner door sill seal? i saw a post on here showing such just after a wash & that person found it to be their door skin dry the carpet & test with a few bottle of water - its helpful if another person can lend a hand too ;) annoyingly i had water collecting in the passenger rear footwell, & then some in the front passenger footwell, on the VR & managed to take a look at it on sunday sunroof drains were both ok & couldnt see any sign of it getting in from the door card tested with a couple of litres of water from a bottle & when very heavy flow on windscreen i could see the water level creeping up over the the passenger side edge flange of the foliage thingy i couldnt readily see the water passing under said foliage thingy but the dried carpets were getting wet when i left it a few minutes getting to the foliage thing itself, which i know stealth replaced & sealed heavily a few months ago, is tricky as need to remove wipers & the bottom windscreen trim. I wasnt keen to do that so took a gamble with some silicone sealant & managed to just about build up a layer over the passenger side edge flange fingers crossed that so far the carpets have been dry each morning after overnight rain but i will test fully with another bottle of water when i can Ooo just noticed you have a '90 1.8 16v in white too lol :)
  8. anyone know why pics are not showing :(
  9. only another month & 10 days to wait to see who gets their mitts on this.......seems like forever lol
  10. WHOA!!!! a few bob indeed Kev - just seen this from 2013 http://rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=1061007 over £350K!!! that has now got me wondering if they guy had a real one or a replica lol & found a cracking schematic of the 6R4 http://www.optical3d.com/wp-content/files_mf/1340181054metrolayout.jpg i was too young to see the group B in person too so places like shelsley really are worth going to ive still not managed to see one of the other legends of the time, the ford RS200....maybe one day :)
  11. last year i used the silicone lubricant i purchased for the sunroof & ran some along the inside of the top door rubbers - it seemed to work pretty well at stopping the doors from freezing shut :D

    Help!

Good advice guys - katy, im sure you will get there as you want to drive it! :) you are likely to be correct in that your uncle is being over protective & thinking of your money first rather than your desire to fix the issue if possible. plus, as you mention in your posts it could also be a mix of your uncle not really wanting to get into an involved process of testing & fault finding. sometimes with our beloved rado's its a case of chasing ailing parts round until you fix the overall issue i would imagine that the specialist wullie mentions could possibly give you an idea of potential cost to test & fix based on his experience. After all you know that you need a compression & leak down test running & can then ask for an idea of what head gasket replacement work would cost good luck & keep us all updated on here oh & PS - please let me know your findings on the power steering leak as my 1.8 16v is also loosing fluid

    Help!

Hi Katy Really sorry to hear of your woes :( No offence intended but it seems rather negative of the garage to say they might not be able to fix the engine issue when they dont seem to have done enough investigation to clearly define what is causing the issue. (or so reads the case from the info in your post) Did they give you any more info? such as an idea of where the coolant is being lost etc on what basis is the advice of 'its not worth it' being made? how & on what info are they judging this on? IIRC from when my VR was at stealth, there are a couple of easy checks they could perform to check out the possible cause of the problem & its health. I think they were a compression test & a leak down test..... I quote......'A leak-down tester is a measuring instrument used to determine the condition of internal combustion engines by introducing compressed air into the cylinder and measuring the rate at which it leaks out. Compression testing is a crude form of leak-down testing which also includes effects due to compression ratio, valve timing, cranking speed, and other factors. Compression tests should normally be done with all spark plugs removed to maximize cranking speed. Cranking compression is a dynamic test of the actual low-speed pumping action, where peak cylinder pressure is measured and stored. Leak-down testing is a static test. Leak-down tests cylinder leakage paths. Leak-down primarily tests pistons and rings, seated valve sealing, and the head gasket. Leak-down will not show valve timing and movement problems, or piston movement related sealing problems. Any test should include both compression and leak-down.' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leak-down_tester The other issues dont sound too bad & are more of a maintenance issue. It is common for the original suspension to be replaced due to leaks. I put KW V1's on my VR. brake pads is an easy fix as may be the petrol tank & maybe the gearbox & power steering leaks are an aging seal & hose i feel for you in a not nice situation but it may not be as bad as it seems
  14. good point Kev, seeing these sports in real life gives a massively different experience to looking from the couch. i dont think i will ever forget when i went to Shelsley Hill climb event & saw a metro 6R4 in the flesh for the 1st time. quite how they managed to shoe horn all that engine into such a small area i have no idea!! the owners often have lots of willing to chat to spectators too & he didnt mind me pretty much clambering inside the 6R4 to get a closer look lol Plus seeing OR more pertinent, hearing, the audi S1 quattro's go up the hill is a sheer experience in itself. the sequential turbos in the ones i saw were so big & loud its like they could hoover cows into them from a nearby field :D
  15. Speaking of Group B........oddly the guy i purchased my VR from over derby way had a mint Lancia Stratos in his garage, a lovely red colour with gold wheels & the black bar thing that goes over the top I really wish i had taken some more time to look at it, or ask him for a quick ride in it but i was that focused on buying my VR that it didnt enter my head until a few days after lol
  16. Hello m8 as far as i am aware it is worthwhile using a VT mount for the front engine mount & then use OEM for rear engine mount & both front & rear gearbox mounts IIRC this was what vince at stealth advised me when i had my head rebuild & other bits done I think if you go with VT mounts all round it produces quite a degree of cabin vibrations - Kev Bacon should be able to expand on this if he sees it ;)
  17. No need to apologise, it was my mistake as i was looking on ths thread. ive found the album you refer to & it looks good! the photo on the forecourt is a very nice one :) i didnt even know (or rather had never looked) that you could create an album in a user profile page & ive been on here ages lol well done  i see you have an early model too, judging by the grill. im a fan of the 7 slat version & have recently found & refurbished a replacement for my 16V which i brought back a few months ago
  18. ive been abstaining on this thread & just enjoying reading as i like lots of motorsport & they all have their own unique viewing/following advantages & disadvantages however i feel it timely to pose......should i throw NASCAR into the mix here 'they are making a left turn!!!' (said in the voice of Bubba J from Jeff Dunham) PMSL not that ive watched any NASCAR but it seemed appropriate considering the motorsport slanging going on ;)
  19. keh!? where be this upload you mention Katy? lol
  20. they do outdoor versions too, i was having a browse on the carcoon site - wow they are expensive though but cheaper than building a garage i guess lol
