  1. nice to see you pop up again Goldie how is life on the sea's? those pieces of rocking horse poop you helped me out with may be making an appearance this year m8 - though i am investigating them for the VR first ;) add - re-felt heater box control flaps to the list when you do your matrix. i regret not doing mine in the valver & have to pull the dash out again when the weather warms
  2. i recall my mechanic saying he had to cut into the beam on my VR to get the brake bias valve out - a pig of a job he said!! good luck delfinis
  3. i think many of us are :) i am lucky to have grown up with the below since i was about 10 years old & still fondly remember being woke up by the sound of the flat 6 it has not ran for quite a few years but 1 day, 1 day.....
  4. lol glad it passed fairly quickly ;) i am sure there was someone on here who recently went for a 911 & then changed not too long after, cant recall who though
  5. lol no cressa - it is most old cars ;) lol
  6. phew.com " It's important to emphasise that these tax changes do not apply retrospectively so only new cars bought after April 2017 will be taxed under the new system."
  7. there are some good ones on there Dox - good post i still have the phone number of a guy i met at a car meet who had 'VR6 259' on retention from after he sold his own rado VR but no funds sadly lol
  8. ha ha yes i believe we do :) personally i am not against the G60 & if i am honest i would rather like one so as to complete the set ;) lol i was trying to be unbiased (a little), hence why i also mentioned the chains on the VR. my own concern about the G60 would be more about the charger service intervals rather than fear of one exploding its casing lol
  9. ha ha ha you couldnt resist could you eh marks2 ;) lol i thought you were going to avoid the G60/VR6 touchy topic ****bites tongue to stop myself****
  10. your choice of retrain would be good for our rado rescue centre :) lol
  11. i agree with that sentiment Jim - a job should be simply that & not force all of 'go the extra mile' horse sh1t.
  12. it was dark when i went to see my mechanic last night so i didnt get a good look & ive not got the VR back yet but here is a teaser...
  13. bless you EJ - i would be missing it too :'( i missed my valver from the very second it drove away & even though i now have it back i wish i hadnt sold it back then my problem is that i just dont seem to like the majority of other cars over how the rado feels. the seats, the cabin & the sheer fact that even after 15 years since first owning one i still look back at them every time i walk away after locking them you know your only solution dont you ;) lol
  14. welcome tony i have both a '90 1.8 16v & a '95 VR6 in fact, i have owned the 16v twice now as i did sell it a few years ago & then brought it back in 2014 - mainly as i loved the Kamei skirt kit that was on it. as sean has mentioned above the difference between them is night & day in terms of performance but also a few differences in aesthetics too maintenance costs are fairly similar from my experience but do make sure you check if the chains have been done if you go for a VR, if the mileage would warrant such. FYI i brought my VR on 94K & had the chains done at 155K - but i also had a head refurb & some light breathing in terms of 263 cams, a BMC air filter & a remap (all done by Stealth Racing in Banbury) which put her up to 209bhp. i thought this would be worthwhile mentioning as the power delivery difference over the standard map is very nice indeed. not that standard is bad, just that the responsiveness & way the power delivers is much better on the remap oh & the sound! yes i shouldnt forget the sound as who needs a stereo when you have the beautiful growl turning into a full on roar as you go up the revs!! it is addictive to say the least & even better with the BMC i also now have a longlife SS exhaust on it which compliments the package very well & produces lovely burbles & pops on low rev gear down changes. there are a couple of videos on my build thread in members gallery if you want to hear ;) one of the other things i love about the VR is how lazy you can drive it if you desire. it will handle pretty much anything tootling along at 20 or 30 in 5th gear, hills, islands etc but with the KW suspension on it should you desire it will make you grin from ear to ear in both the straights & the twisties :D the valver can be lazy driven but doesnt cope so well with hills in high gears i have leather in the VR & love the heated seats in winter but damn it is hot in there in summer. whereas the valver has material seats which are comfortable in both hot & cold my valver, with it being a fairly early model, also doesnt have the issues with ABS as do many VR's beacause it simply doesnt have it as for the other flavours of rado - my parents had a 2.0 16v at the same time i first owned the valver & i recall i didnt really like it that much. it felt a bit flatter than the 1.8 & seemed to lack some guts. IIRC im sure i had heard that the 1.8 16v was a better engine than the 2.0 as well regarding the G60 i too would be fearful of the chargers & the expense to have them serviced/rebuilt properly. my chain work cost a pretty penny but at least i know they should last a very long time, compared to the relatively frequent servicing of the charger - hopefully someone here will know the mileage intervals but i bet they are massively lower than 155K miles lol (with that i have probably opened the usual can of worms that happens when we discuss G60 or VR6 lol) i also kind of get the impression that chargers can be very hit & miss with reliability & can be prone to pop if you are a bit over exuberant with a downshift take your time, if you can, to find the right one for you & avoid the forecourts/traders as they are all trying to make some big profits on there offerings
  15. welcome back to the rado life :)
  16. again apologies Dogma but i am glad you didnt take offence lol i wasnt worked up, it just hit a nerve i think the world would be a much nicer place for us all if the way people act/thought stepped back 50 odd years to when people respected each other & elders, did not take offense at others having different thoughts/beliefs/religions & strive to be better people rather than scum bags an example would be a meme thing i saw on fb the other day - depicting a parent & child at a park & the parent telling the child 'if you dont have anything nice to say, say something clever & devastating' yes it was a joke meme but many people nowadays will think that is a good mentality to give your child & is far & away from the 'dont say anything at all' that i was taught
  17. a rado rescue centre sounds mint lol & as we all know from mechanics bills - most jobs take enough time to warrant some hefty pennies
  18. ha ha that would be some weekend commute lol i guess it is like most things, when you do it for a job everything can get tedious or boring
  19. no offense Dogma but i have grown to really hate that saying!! why should we pass off greed etc as 'this is life' - no it isnt! we all have to make conscious decisions about how we act & what we do - greed & personal gain are some of the worst traits in the current human race & are the reasons our world is so controlled by the few i am in the middle of being diagnosed with aspergers & i have often been told at work that i am blunt & can be rude. it is not that i am rude, it is due to my personal difficulty that when i am interrupted it can take me a moment or two to refocus my brain to deal with the interruption when at a recent family dinner i said to my dad 'you shouldnt judge a book by its cover', to which an uncle said 'that is life' horse ****! we can all strive to be better people & not hide behind excuses like 'that is life' sorry rant over & again not a personal attack on you Dogma, more a vent that all of our lives could & would be improved by people striving to be the best they can rather than accepting everything being dumbed down to the lowest common denominator
  20. i would have to agree - i saw the fb posts & thought at the time 'here we go, another *** trying to make coin off something they have no idea about' a bit like when VSR's come up lol sad but true
  21. now that i could go for Jim!!! lol quite a few of us in this area & we all have many contacts for possible work from here lol i used to love helping my friend with camper van resto's when i used to have more time. i have even thought of asking the guys at the car restoration bodyshop i want to take my VR to if they have any saturday work i could do so as to learn better skills & get a foot in the door anyone want to go 2's on a unit & start with weekend work? ;)
  22. lol life is a funny thing & quite bizarre at times minutes after my above post i pop to a site ive been reading lately (i am trying hard to move myself away from mainstream media as i believe they only print what they are told to but that is another subject entirely) & see this, excerpt follows: "As a society in general we take life incredibly seriously here, working the 9-5 grind in jobs we don’t like, performing repetitive actions with very little meaning or purpose, all so we can earn a paycheque (so we can buy food, so we can keep on living, so we can keep earning to make sure we keep living). It’s an endless cycle. Does that sound right? Does that sound like what we are here for and are destined to do until the end of time… if that ever comes?" http://www.collective-evolution.com/2017/01/09/these-209-seconds-will-make-you-question-your-entire-life-existence/ if you read it click on the 'discussion' thing at the bottom & read the post by Derryl - very interesting indeed!
  23. my dad is/was a plumber by trade - he always pointed towards jobs outside of a building site mainly due to the uncertainty of the work available, he used to subcontract, the physical tole of it & the weather. as he approached retirement he did manage to be put on 'maintenance' work where he would correct things that had gone wrong but he had to shift to day rate pay as his speed slowed such that piece work was not good but - although he slowed down in speed of work it did help him keep fitter than the average person however, he is still bloody brilliant at everything house related! he built all but 1 of the houses i grew up in as a child, i will never forget sitting on the top of a roof helping him do the ridge tiles on the barns when i was barely in junior school & my mom shouting at him to get me down lol he has also built a house in france & did everything except the electrics & he is invaluable with the help he gives me refurb'ing my own house now - i just tend to do the heavy lifting etc now lol i think it is horses for courses really. if you are in an office job you want an outside job, if you have an outside job you want an indoor job lol my mechanic always tells me to stay in the warm office when i ask how his work is im 41, am currently being diagnosed with aspergers, work in IT spending a lot of time at work bored because its a ****e hole & am having many of the same thoughts as you Mic. i want some quality of life, not to spend it sat rotting behind a desk but the stability of a known income holds me back. i have also had a job working from home in the past & TBH that itself can be quite a task to keep motivated & a touch lonely. i think many people underestimate how isolating a work from home job can be. as per you also, it is thinking & deciding what to do whilst being able to minimise risk. i was going to make a small investment in some stock for a mail order thing last year but glad i didnt as changes in the industry last year meant it would have been a waste of money & time with you being a professional accountant i think i would try & do something along those lines but for yourself. if you can get that to the point of enough income whilst giving you plenty of free time you might find that fulfillment through being able to do other things i know i would like to be working on my house or rado's or training my springer puppy rather than being behind a desk with a sore backside cause i sit down so much!! lol
  24. i like your RX2's - what colour are they pls? the lips look kind of bronze i refurb'd with black centres & polished lips on the ones on my valver
