  1. I'd be interested if the rear spoiler could have an integrated hi-vis rear brake light. Other than that can't see the need to change. Sorry!
  2. I've just seen this today and I'm gutted for you. I hope the health issues get resolved quickly and that some speedy resolution to the car also happens. Best outcome as some have said is that the car is repairable and the dozy woman's insurers pay out a few grand in a personal injury claim. What struck me about the photo was how the bumper looked undamaged - it just shows how high these 4x4's (even a Freelander) are.
  3. Totally agree Jim - just goes to show what a niche car the Corrado was.
  4. When I was 17 and had just passed my test I was able to drive my Dad's black MG Montego and the car was awesome  . It took me another 7 years to appreciate what a proper car was - VWs and Audis have been with me ever since.
  5. How much of a Corrado was hand-built as opposed to put together by robots at Karmann ( don't know if this is good or bad thing  )? Obviously I've read the comments about dodgy paint out of the factory but was anything ahead of it's time? In terms of production how many hours was a Corrado build back in the 90's compared to a modern day Scirrocco. I guess VW lost money on the car as it didn't sell too well.
  6. The other potential issue is the standard of replacement windscreens you sometimes get. I almost think the curvature on the passenger side isn't quite right but I've only ever run Lupo wipers with this replacement screen.
  7. My passenger side wiper also doesn't make full contact - I get a funny triangle/arc style pattern middle to top of the sweep. I too have bent the arm but still isn't great. I was thinking of inserting something between the blade and wiper arm to get a bit more contact at this point of the sweep but so far can't think of anything which will work. Any ideas? As for headlight looms do get a proper one as this cuts down on fire risk. On the forum there's a guy called Kurzy I think who does them and they're good.
  8. It could be this. http://wiki.the-corrado.net/changing_he ... _seal.html A failed foliage cover seal can cause misting.
  9. Looks v.cool. Just one thing though - the car underneath the Jetta GTi looks like a Golf. Have you any rear end profile pics instead? Also how about having a Polo G40 table to keep the supercharging fraternity happy.
  10. Both cars are good. I owned a Mk1 TT for 3 years from 2005-2008. A nice 1.8T 225bhp quattro in Moro blue with silver/grey leather interior. You need to be careful of maintenance costs. I had to get a new Xenon headlight as the whole unit failed and the only way to replace them is to take the whole front bumper off. Needless to say all these tasks were beyond me so I went to the Audi dealer and boy did it hurt - £900 taken off me just before Xmas . Obviously all things are relative and it depends on your budget etc but both cars use the Mk 4 golf chassis so the motoring press always said they were dynamically challenged. However my TT stuck to the road like glue. Having said that I actually think the Corrado is a better drivers car.
  11. All set for a cracking race tomorrow - I forsee a close Button-Hamilton tussle at some stage but lets hope both stay on the track. Alonso will win to keep the tifosi happy.
  12. I'll be doing a 240 mile round trip before Xmas to get this done. This seems to be right up my street - a nice bit of extra get up and go at low-ish revs. My car's only been once to DG this year so it's starting to get withdrawal symptoms - it's addicted to getting on Corrado cam  .
  13. I like the matching red dipstick. Mine's orange and I thought they all were...learn something new everyday :D
  14. Totally 100% agree. It's the only forum I now use as it seems to be full of honest genuine folk who are always happy to help. Well done everyone
  15. To be fair to Tom Tom I synched up my sat-nav tonight and then found the whole map of the USA for £34.95. Hence bought that as I know it's a lot cheaper than paying sat-nav rental of $15-20 per day for 2 weeks. Lets hope it works when I get to Boston a week on Saturday otherwise I'll be fuming :bad-words: .
  16. I've got a pretty standard Tom-Tom sat-nav (think it's the XL) and it only came with UK maps installed (2 plus years ago). I'm going on a USA road-trip holiday around New England and rather than pay Hire Car rip-off prices for daily use of a sat-nav I'm thinking of buying some maps and installing these on to my existing sat-nav. Has anyone done this and if so can you recommend a supplier/internet site?
  17. +1. This was my first live race - had a great seat at Eau Rouge. Can't believe I waited this long to get to my first race. Already thinking about where I should go in 2011.
  18. RW1 - I salute you :notworthy: . Such a great top tip. Unfortunately as you mention black is a rare colour so instead I got some dark brown rubber draft excluder from Homebase. Here's my new modification - lets hope it works  .
  19. Looks like you did a great job there :salute: . Funny you should mention the OEM battery cover as that was a key element in the water ingress as the rain ran down the front wing channels and saturated the battery cover and the wiring loom wires close by. Serves me right for polishing the wing channels!
  20. I invented a new game for rain drops to play having attempted to tart up my engine bay. The irony is I've hardly used any water - just a cloth, a brush and some fairy liquid water so far. My issue relates to the fact I've polished up some of the body coloured parts underneath the bonnet - these include the two side channels on the front wings. Hence the rain drops now glide quickly down these channels but when they get near to my battery they then jump down onto the cover, in turn this has become saturated and as my (unprotected) headlight looms were adjacent to the cover they in turn have had a lovely dowsing today - hence random headlights have been going on. A kind of Corrado mousetrap game for rain drops  . I've used a separate thread to ask for advice on waterproofing the looms but I'd like to know how to stop the rain reaching the battery cover. At present I've blocked up the hole in the "Durdle Dor" foam/rubber piece situated in the channel near to the top mount to try and divert the rain drops higher up. In the picture the red line marks the direction of rain drops.
  21. Thanks I can see that will work for the smaller relay/connector behind passenger side headlight but I also need something which will waterproof the 3 relay unit. This is quite chunky (maybe 10cm x 4cm x 4cm) plus all the wires etc. I think a tupperware beaker might do but I'm sure someone mentioned they used surgical gloves once (would these melt?)
  22. OK folks I think it's time I waterproofed mine. It's been on 9 months and behaved perfectly, however today when I parked up and switched the lights off the nearside light stayed on dipped beam. I gave the relays a quick tap and the light went off but looking at where my relays are situated (in front of battery but behind the headlight) I think it will be best to waterproof. So what do other folks use?
  23. I had a similar dilemma in the late 90's. Whilst still living with my parents I sold my Corrado VR6 in 1999 and even though I had a fair bit of money in the bank I "only" bought a new Golf GTi which I ran for 6 years. I had no scary bills during this time, managed to purchase a flat in 2000 and then sold this in 2005 having made £100k equity gain. Ok so it's now all tied up in a house but I always think bricks and mortar should come before cars. If you follow this route you'll be able in a few years to get a 997 turbo instead of a 996 - a much better looking 911 in my opinion.
  24. My Corrado will turn into a 911 one day (probably 997 variety). How? Well currently the daily is a Mk2 TT so at some stage when kids arrive (as they do  ) this will become some sensible box on wheels - maybe a Q5. At that stage Corrado will have gone up in value, 997's will have come down and with a little bit of money on top a sweet Carerra S will be mine. Meanwhile back in the real world.....

    Chains cost?

When I had my chains done earlier this year DG had the car for 2-3 weeks. That's because I had other work done too plus I was away travelling on business. The one day trips have been for 288mm brake fitment and replacement of noisy wheel bearing.
