Watch those prices rise - its says so here!
Bullfinch replied to Bullfinch's topic in General Car Chat
Are any cars in the 18-25 year old range increasing in price? I know the Porsche 911 993 is but what about cars that were more in the Corrado price range when new -
Always good to read articles such as these:) http://www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/Articles-and-Resources/All-Articles/2014/03/10/Baby-boomer-cars?utm_source=ExactTarget&utm_medium=email&utm_term=&utm_content=&utm_campaign=Hagerty%20UK%20News%20Mar%2014

Yes please put me down. CCGB 3115 if you need to know:)

The Mk5 R32 must have one of the worst car tax to current retail price ratios. Prices now start under £8k so £475 a year road tax is quite a sizeable amount. I assume it won't be long until this is £500 per year. That surely will make some people think twice about buying one

It all depends what you spend the money on. I don't think anyone who has ever turbo'd their Corrado or even done a 2.8 24v conversion has got their money back. Having said that I don't think anyone who has a Corrado thinks I will spend X and my car is now worth X+1. There was a good article on Pistonheads the other day about this. Best bet IMHO is OEM+.

My daily is a 911. 997 Carrera 4S to be precise. It's an amazing car but there's still a place for the Corrado in my life:)

VR6 Storm Classic Green - back on the road
Bullfinch replied to Bullfinch's topic in Members Gallery
I forgot to post up the results of the 263 cams and Stealth re-map back in Dec. There wasn't time to do a before reading but after fitting the Storm produced 209bhp and 202 lb ft of torque. More than happy with that but the real gain is how much smoother the car is. -
What's the reason for going back to the standard VW airbox - BMC too loud?
-
I owned a Mk1 TT 225hp for 3 years from 2005-08. It was plenty fast enough for me and it stuck to the road like glue. Only issue as others have mentioned is if something goes wrong then £££'s are spent. One of my Xenon headlamps had the starter/firing unit fail and so a new unit was required. To fit these you have to remove the front bumper - anyway it was done at a main dealer and part plus labour came to £900. Ouch:(
-
I have exactly the same problem so I'll be interested to know what fixes it. TBH - I try and minimise the effect by generally reversing very slowly and letting the natural laws of friction come into play.
-
I parked as usual in the work car park in my daily and opened the boot to get my bag and coat. A female colleague had just parked her Lexus and called across to me - "has your car got a problem?" "Why" I replied. She said "You've got the bonnet open". I then had to explain the engine in a 911 is at the rear:)
-
I know what you mean Jim. Have you got to 192k miles without doing the timing chains? I've had all the main engine work done plus 263 cams and a re-map. I've thought of the Corrado as depreciation proof in the 5 years I've owned it and if I can spend less than £3k per year on upkeep then this offsets a typical depreciation loss I get on my my regular car, albeit depreciation is a hidden cost which only bites you at time of trade-in:(
-
So sorry to hear about your accident and I hope the x-ray goes OK. It does make you think every one with a Corrado is probably only one moderate prang away from a write-off:(
-
As ever some great comments and suggestions. There are a couple of Mk5 GTi's for sale at dealers near me so I guess I'll take one for a drive and see what I think. Back in 2005 I was going to buy one brand new but instead bought a Mk1 TT 225hp Quattro that was 2 years old at the time. I still like my Corrado so I won't do anything rash as I've invested so much time and money. At least I need to enjoy one summer with 263 cams and a re-map:).
-
I know Corrado owners have different reasons for owning and caring for their cars. Some are dailies, some are weekend/summer toys. I'm in the category where a Corrado has been run as a practical 2nd car as my daily is a 2 seater. The issue for me now when I do man-maths is that the cost to maintain and keep to the standard I want my Corrado to be starts to make the switch to a Mk5 Golf GTi very tempting now that these can be had for £5k.

Somewhere like Goodwood wood be good:)
-
As its the January sale I would say price them as a buy one get one free offer:)
-
That picture is from a Corrado brochure. It says the car is red. I bet it's faded

Good news:) The Corrado has been fixed and is back on the road. My local garage sourced an original VAG hose through TPS. Cost of the part was £52.30 plus VAT.
-
You will see elsewhere my return Boxing Day journey was a little more eventful:(
-
I found the split hose. Forgive my lack of technical know how but its the big hose just behind the engine manifold. As you can see from the pic it's a fairly big split. Anyway now dropped off at my local garage who will order in an OEM part and fit it for me. As ever thanks folks for letting me know what to look for:)
-
Well one mile from home on the A322 dual carriageway after a spirited drive up from Sussex the Corrado suffered a spectacular coolant leak. Managed to crawl home with a plume of steam trailing behind me. Just checked and the expansion tank is totally empty. I assume a hose has split. Any top tips on how to trace it? Also do VW still stock originals or are there better choices out there?

Corrado Club National Day 2014
Bullfinch replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Same day as Monaco GP which I'm going to. Maybe I will make 2015 when the Storm turns 20:) -
Merry Xmas everyone. Who's driving their Corrado on Xmas Day? I'll be driving from Bracknell to Burgess Hill. Look out for me on the M3, M25, M23 and A23 (in the outside lane:))
