  1. a g60 turbo  theres a few around search for ihi turbo, or look at slims..... still, pics or it didnt happen.
  2. they are different manufacturers for both. ate make the 288, late mk3 vr6 95-98 i think and girling g60 are the 280 part numbers will reveal all too.
  3. you need the 288 caliper to accept the bigger disc.
  4. they are pretty straight forward, not alot to them, a little search should give you the jist of it. 2 people is a good help, one to stand on the wheel while the other changes them.
  5. the discs are 288 mm hence the name. the calipers arent actually that different its the shape of the pads that makes the diffence. larger surface area. carriers are different to 280 setup. worth doing a swap. i still run 4 stud 280mm discs on mine though, couldnt be arsed with redrilling or swapping to 5 stud.
  6. hard to tell from pic but they look like carbon canistor vacuum pipes. many people me included have deleted this. can you take apic of where they run to? the one with out a bolet in it could do with one. isv/blue temp sender/red wire loose on back of throttle body are worth looking at. accelerator cable sticking/throttle body mech sticking too.
  7. you are allowed to drive it to and from an approved repair centre provided it is prebooked, is pretty much how its worded. if it needs welding a place that does car welding is fine. although your insurarance is invalid in most cases for these journeys.
  8. you can drive it to have it welded with no tax/mot provided you ring and book in advance, might save you a bit of hasstle mext time.
  9. wheres my 8 ball  paid for it in january

fk's seem to get a bad rating/reputation form alot of people. seems they have problems with seizing alot. having never owned a set i am not the best to judge. but from general hearsay they seem to be one to avoid.

30mm will look ok, 40mm would be better in my opinion. im sure if you have a seach for lowered 40mm you will find a pic of the same tyre/wheel size combo
  12. vw sales at leicester is a fooking joke too. maybe its a common theme. my mate had £8k in pocket to buy a polo. was ignored for half an hour, then they said someone will be over shortly. another half hour passed. mate walked over to them waved the cash at them and informed them of his opinion of them (properly funny watching there faces drop) now has a very tidy seat ibiza and fantastic service all round from them. glad you are making progress.

what size wheels/tyres do you run?
  14. when were the chains last done? same noise on tickover or just when driving? to be fair most old cars would burn oil averaging over 100mph for 500 miles. keep an eye on it but i wouldnt be too concerned at the mo.
  15. insurance had a massive price jump from april sadly. home insurance policies will be up around £100 when you renew this year. how many no claims do you have? they are still valid up tp two years from your last insurance expiring. some companies three years. how long until you are 25? if you can hold off till then you can look at insuring it on a classic car policy, limited mileage etc. will bring the costs down. failing that buy an 850cc mini insure yourself to drive other vehicles and get your old man insured on the vr......
  16. oh and one sp30 will nearly always not affect the price on your policy stretch
  17. its going to suck big time dude. do the confused.com style quote to give an idea of what price youre looking at. id suggest performance compaines, just purely because of what the car is brentacre, flux, hic etc. i think it stays on your licence for 11 years, but you only have to declare it for 5 years from conviction date (rehabilitation for offenders act?)
  18. fookin expensive on parts for one. over £500 for a new rear windscreen, the you need it shipped here. (and that was a few years ago) but agreed rx8 wasnt thought out very well. dealer parts/servicing for them is a nightmare. they only have a "special team" of mechanics to work on the wankle's. have to run them for at least 5 mins everytime you start them or they flood them selves.
  19. i dont see why it wouldnt fit, cat size may be different but easy enough to work round.
  20. I find grooved discs kill pads. I have ferodo pads, seem good dust wise really and very good stopping power. Are you going up in size then? 304mm off a seat?

    Big problem

how does it drive, stuttery? slow on full throttle? any work been done recently around the fuel rail? blue temp sender worth changing if it hasnt been done recently.
  22. i hear you. i go with 50's for the same reason.
  23. did mine this morning. nice and straight forward and happy that everything looks to be well lubed. there was certainly alot more oil at the back where the gasket sat so fingers crossed thats the trickle of oil stopped. 30042010233.jpg[/attachment:28jjvg5n]
  24. butterfly working as it should do :( heres a pic of underneath. no tps then 30042010235.jpg[/attachment:3e953xt3] only thing i did notice was a small sort of wire (?) coming out from where the orange circle is. this doesnt quite touch the square peg that it seems its aiming for? should it? throttle body seems clean (havnt cleaned anything), and inlet manifold too.... passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf30042010236.jpg[/attachment:3e953xt3] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf30042010237.jpg[/attachment:3e953xt3] dont know where to go with it now. and as always when youre doing one thing you find at least one more problem. god i love old cars. a nut has vanished from the four branch, and this rather yummy looking stuff.... need a new gasket from the block to the housing. 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf30042010234.jpg[/attachment:3e953xt3] i rechecked today and with just red wire off, or all three wires off it idles at 3.5k i guess this points back to electrics.
  25. you have to be scene. god henny what kind of idiot are you pffft
