Indeed a bad day for someone. Makes the big fairy light 3rd brakes off eBay more appealing!

Not sure what you're getting at there, ptfe is ptfe, some are better than others but all are better than not using it if you delete the boost return. Can easily be found in single cans from the internet. Companies like rs and motor factors will be able to supply it too.

Ambesil ptfe is what I used. Should come up on google. It's all roughly similar, no need to pay a middle man for it.

Even if they did work I wouldn't buy anything from someone that calls themselves badboy! I refuse to fund chavs. -
you say that but i seem to think the £350 ish was with footman james! ring as many of the decent ones as you can in my opinion.
-
still dont know enough to give you anything other than a guess. garaged, type of use, miles per year etc. and with prices going as mental as they have done id def bite the bullet and ring an insurance company. last i remember of hearing on r32 insurance was between one lucky chap on here paying around £350, classic policy limited miles etc, to one chap having a renewal come through at just shy of 1k. id ask what the price is if you install a cat 1 alarm to it too, pay for themselves fairly quicky and give you a bit of peace at night.

Footman James, Brentacre, hic, green light etc. Dont know any of you're details so have to have a ring round.

It's part of the mot to check the condition of the exhaust, mainly looking for leaks. If there is no cat present on a post august 92 car they can indeed fail it. To be honest if a garage didn't notice it I wouldn't be sending my car to them for any repair work. As said best bet is to change the decat pipe over for the mot. But yes some garages will turn a blind eye to it. Sat morning is the normal day for things to be inspected by stevie wonder ;)

The mk1 and mk2 Toledo were very similar in size, I'd prob say the same to be honest, I've had both. Much better boot on the mk1 being a hatchback though. Some good spec on the mk2's though. Vr will be better on fuel than the v5. Mine was for sure.
-
Very thirsty engine though. A friend of a friend used to say his porka was better on fuel thanks his mrs mk4 golf v5. Worth thinking about given prices are only going one way.

Nice one for replys. Movement was fairly good on slider pins, removed the caliper today for a good check over. didn't notice any damage to boots but I'll double check tomorrow. Havnt tried winding piston back in but it wasnt hard to do so last time I changed the pads. Have actually got a full set of handbrake cables so I'll swap them over tomorrow and grease up with new pads. Fingers crossed

def not corrado related! my old mans car (04 mazda premacy 2.0 tdi) had a problem a few months back where it seemed the rear offside caliper wasnt releasing properly and only the pad on the outside (facing you with the wheel off) had worn away to nothing and destroyed the disc. he asked me to replace discs and pads so i did that for him. cant have even been 3 months and its the same story, outer pad has worn away to nothing but the inner is fine. everything is connected, seated and tightened up correctly. i am correct in thinking the caliper has given up, or is there a bais valve thats not working as it should? can stick a picture up if the description isnt clear enough. not knowing bugger all specific about mazdas im a bit stumped. at around £85 plus vat for a new caliper and flexi brake lines, its not overly cheap and if it doesnt fix the problem ill feel terrible. with a set of pads and brake fluid itll be well over a tonne.

youd be surprised! half the passats seem to be in very bad condition, so for one thats alright they command a decent price. think i will knock it on the head though. cheers fellas.
-
fair answer! are you a grease monkey then? jesus even the evos can out last them on oil then! haha i did read some interesting stories of people struggling to get them round corners! only problem being finding something else which has been taken care of and doesnt cost the earth. have spent close to 60k this year so im not exactly in a position to splash out. still debating a passat but that will have to involve finance and its not something ive done before or ever really wanted to. bloody children!!
-
been offered a potential decent motor. need an estate and was looking for a passat 2.0 tdi really. but one of my old mans neighbours has decided to get shot of his 9-5 2.0 turbo. i know its been well looked after and had a new turbo less than 1k ago. its got nearly all the extras on it and full leather. he says he will mot it and i can bag it for £900. its on a w plate and has 180k on it, not overly worried about the miles as i do bugger all a year now. i am concerned however at the alarming bad reviews on reliability and eyewatering parts costs. the fact it shares many parts with a vectra doesnt fill me with confidence either. so does anyone have any informed knowledge of them? it wont be a keeper anyway, just to trev around in till later next year when i can afford a passat. selling my car and buying this will free up funds to buy a mk1 caddy too :) plus i figure worst case scenario i can sell a few bits off it to get my pennies back if it self destructs.

Depends how nackered the thread is really, if its going to be adjusted it's alot easier with a new one, but as said not essential.
-
I changed wishbones and bushes at the same time. Easier to get at with the wish bones out the way. Bought complete steering arms too. 32mm fan spanner is indeed a laser item, it's double ended. Veedubmachine sorted me out with a good price on parts.
-
Daves16v did a thread on the parts list required, have a search for it or pm him. There's a few breakers around so should get a good price on parts.
-
All sorted now, managed to find the same bora as a breaker. Was led to believe it's the same setup as the gti mk4's, as you say sits slightly lower. But didn't confirm this sadly. Cheers fellas.
-
Anybody feeling kind enough to check whether the suspension on a y reg bora tdi sport is the same as all mk4 golfs? Or a what models have the same? Think I'm going to have to get a new strut and poss spring from a scrappy tomorrow. Need the car for sat and I'm guessing stealers will be expensive. Figure I'm more likely to find a golf. Many thanks in advance. Jim

Is the engine subframe the same in a Corrado and a Golf MkII?
mimjed replied to Stig's topic in Engine Bay
Well I stand half corrected then. I presumed they were the same as they are interchangeable, but my point was ask for a breaker on here. -

Yep they are the same, assuming yours isn't a vr. Stick a wanted up on here chap, plenty being broken at the mo. May be worth posting a pic if you're not sure what the part is, could save you pennies. -
Sounds dumb but check the alternator belt is tight. Can cause all your symptoms.
