Silverstone looks fairly central for southerners... or brands hatch for extreme southerners... Anyone interested? Or other suggestions?

Well done :)

I thought you guys might like to see my current VW...

Now on my PC so can type a bit more without throwing my phone out the window in predictive text frustration :) I love mk1's and really regret never getting a mk1 GTI. My first car was a beautiful silver mk1 1.3 Driver which looked like a GTI on the outside but had a smaller engine and bog standard interior. It led me to a soft spot for VW forever more. Sadly I think it's too late for me to ever own a GTI and I find that a little sad. It's an iconic car and will absolutely only go up in value now so are you sure you really want to sell it? However much I love the Corrado I don't think I could sell such an icon for one. Is it a GTI though? I don't recall them having sunroofs like that (they had steel slide sunroofs I recall). -
Impressive. Well done :) I washed mine and was knackered.

All 1.8 GTI had the double headlight grille (so did some other models like the 1.3 Driver - my first car). If I recall the Campaign had p-slot alloys, different door pins, came in red, blue or silver and I also seem to remember something different about the seatbelts but I can't remember quite what. -

No they have never done a corrado and I can't see them ever doing it as a profit would be difficult. -

Nice. That reminds me... must do a track day this year in the Corrado!

My thoughts: Porsche 944 Turbo - I'd love one of these so would certainly consider it. Porsche 968 Sport or CS -Too expensive to own and run for me. BMW Z3M Coupe - Yes. Like this idea. hate the Z3 roadster but love the coupe. BMW 850i / Ci - Interesting but doesn't float my boat for some reason. BMW M635csi - Yes like this but prefer a smaller car. Alpina 3.4s Roadster - Maybe. Doesn't float my boat again for some reason.. Audi UR Quattro - Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.... but quite old now so probably no. Audi TT Quattro Sport 240 - Very much like this as a car to collect for the future. Elise S1/S2 - A car I wish I'd bought in the past (I nearly did) but not practical as a long term only car. Or how about... e36 M3 or similar (as mentioned earlier) - bound to rise in value now. TT mk1 V6 EDIT: Corrado's can be a bit of a millstone around your neck. Not because of them breaking down but because they seem very hard emotionally to part with. I'd love to try another car but I don't want to sell this and I can't sell the family car.

And another one... I was collecting my Golf from the body shop today and the owner, who I've known for years as I always use this place, asked me to let him know if I ever sell the Corrado :)

Welcome.

Ah yes that. Not only will no savings be padded on, they will no doubt take the opportunity to raise overall tax. I bet older car tax will rise.

http://m.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motoring/london-set-ban-older-private-petrol-and-diesel-cars While I never drive the Corrado into central London it is a worrying trend. Quite frankly I'm getting sick and tired of the government dictating what I can do and how I should live my life.

At a guess I get somewhere between 25mpg to 30mpg. Mine has 143k on it and has so far proved very reliable over the last 2.5 years (it has a lot of history of mechanical work though, but does still have a few niggles). Buy the best you can and buy on condition and history of maintenance rather than just low mileage. For example a low mileage car with little work having been done will still have a lot of potential issues waiting to happen wheras a higher mileage car which has had items replaced might be a better starting point. Beware of missing or damaged trim as many parts are obsolete now while mechanical parts can generally be found. For rarity seek out a G60 but be aware that getting a charger rebuild is becoming increasingly hard as very few companies do it. The 8v/16v are reliable daily drivers but as you will be using it at weekends only then I personally think either a G60 or VR6. I went for a VR6.

Nowadays I really would advise against most people buying a Corrado if they just want something for a bit of fun and as a daily driver. They can be daily drivers of course. But increasingly they are enthusiasts cars that take effort to run and quite often effort to just find replacement parts. No other car has given me as much enjoyment as my Corrado but if it was to be my only car I certainly wouldn't be selling something relatively modern to buy one. But if you're looking for something that you're prepared to spend time and money just keeping it running and in good order and if you're looking for something that is an event every time you get into it or look at it, then certainly buy a Corrado. It has character in spades - something most modern cars don't. But they also get grumpy and like to tell you when they are having a bad day.

I got a chuftie from my wife today. The golf is having some bodywork done so she very reluctantly accepted a lift from me in the Corrado. She hates the car normally and won't get in it because it's a bit noisy and not as smooth as a modern car. But after a quick blast down the A3 she declared "That goes well!". From her about that car it's a compliment I never thought I'd hear :D
-
Brilliant news. I hope it's in good condition still.
-
And thia is a demonstration of why I can't ever see mymyselfbuying a new car again in the future. There are so many good value cars out there between 5k and 15k that it's nuts now to buy new unless you really value being the first to own something.

Could this be right? Brand new VR6 steering wheels fom VW Classic?

I rearranged delivery to my work address and it arrived this morning. I've not fully unwrapped it but had a quick peek and it's great. I see what you mean about there being so much more texture and the matt look is fantastic. Once again thank you for arranging it. Hmmm... put it on straight away or keep for when mine needs more of a refurbish?
