  1. My car is running fine but having acquired a VEGE refurbished head recently (a bit of an impulse purchase) I'm thinking of a complete rebuild longer term. There is no urgency so I may not do this for another year or two. But I think it would secure the cars future and if I know the costs involved then I can start saving and budgeting. I am willing to give some work a go but rebuilding an engine is not something I would consider. So I would want to hand the keys to a reputable garage and let them undertake it... I am looking for some advice on a rough price guide to hand the car over to someone to strip the engine down, refurbish the bottom end and replace the head with the refurbished unit I have. If it's of any relevance the car has done around 140k to 145k and the chains were already done around 3 or 4 years ago. But I assume that's not particularly relevant if it's a complete strip down and refurbish? Also any advice gratefully received on a good company to consider for the work. I have a garage I use but obviously someone a little more used to this kind of work would be preferable. I am based in Surrey so south east preferred but I would be willing to consider further locations for the right company. Any advice appreciated. This is a long term aim rather than something I'm intending to do immediately. Thanks.
  2. My money would be on a 205 GTI rising in value sshortly. I'm seeing them mentioned quite a lot in magazines and they were one the best hot hatches if their era.
  3. Poor RX7. That would have been someone's pride and joy at one point. Someone would have lovingly driven it out of the showroom... and years later it gets chavved up for a television show. Sad times. I no longer want them to do a Corrado.
  4. Buy it Jim before I buy it as a spare spare :D
  5. Also the one that went on mine. Very common.
  6. Photo folder would probably only be accessible once you turn on USB storage, which you need a screen to see. Were your pictures on the phone or a removable sdcard? If the latter then just take it out and either plug into another ohobe or buy a car reader for the pc. Does the phone ring when you call it? If it rings then it's probably just the screen which can be replaced either by a repairer or yourself. I fixed my Samsung Note charging port recently and had to take it apart to get to it. I imagine the screen would be fairly simple to buy from amazon or ebay and then follow instructions on youtube.
  7. This show is literally 5 minutes drive from my house (I live in Esher) and I forget about it every year. I fail again.
  8. The timing chain can break over time simply due to mechanical stresses, although the tensioner is another possible failure point.. If the chain breaks then it is likely to destroy the engine.
  9. That's crap. Wonder how they knew it was there.
  10. I can tell we're back at cloudfare as it's already been broken once this morning (database errors at about 9am).
  11. That's awful news. I'm not far away so will keep an eye out. It's a bit of an odd one someone stealing to order from a garage for a car that nowadays isn't very expensive and most people wouldn't consider buying. Was it a garage at your house or a nearby lockup? What time of day was it stolen? Good luck with it being found although the chances are very slim. Keep an eye on eBay and Gumtree for the wheels.
  12. Beautiful car. Worth every penny. Good luck with the sale and sorry to see you sell up. Like you said, it's the forum and community that really adds to Corrado ownership.
  13. Between the Corrado and the Merc one of them could be out of control expensive to fix if it breaks. I'm just not sure which one :D
  14. I really love these. Quite tempted myself and I already have recaros.
  15. Sorry good point although it's publicly available information. When you setup a website then it's available to anyone who wants to perform a who-is lookup on the website URL (website address). You have to add contact details unless you are a private individual and then you can choose to opt out. It's the online equivalent of looking up a companies head office address which has to be available. Private individuals can opt out of it (they sometimes forget to) but as it's was a company selling stuff then it should be a legitimate company address and contact details. I'll edit it to remove some of the information but anyone in the world can look it up using any of the domain name search engines: https://www.tsohost.com/domain-names For the record I had great service from the company. I just pasted it to show the website was still owned but can only assume it is no longer trading.
  16. That's where I bought some a few years ago. But www.zakparts.com comes up with a "server not found" error. Strange though as the domain is still owned: Domain Name: zakparts.com Registry Domain ID: Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.1und1.info Registrar URL: http://1and1.com Updated Date: 2013-07-14 00:00:00 Creation Date: 2008-07-14 00:00:00 Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2014-07-14 00:00:00 Registrar: 1&1 Internet AG Registrar IANA ID: 83 Registrar Abuse Contact Email: [email protected] Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: Reseller: Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited Registry Tech ID: Tech Name: Hostmaster ONEANDONE Tech City: Slough Tech State/Province: BRK Tech Phone Ext: Tech Fax Ext: Tech Email: [email protected] Name Server: ns59.1and1.co.uk Name Server: ns60.1and1.co.uk DNSSEC: Unsigned URL of the ICANN WHOIS Data Problem Reporting System: http://wdprs.internic.net/ >>> Last update of WHOIS database: 2014-03-25 00:26:52
  17. On a new car £475 isn't likely to put people off. But as cars get older it will do and will result in some being scrapped earlier than they would. I certainly wouldn't consider something like a 2006+ R32 as a second car because with tax, maintenance and then a new £500 bill for road tax it just makes it too much. One of the beauties of the Corrado is that even the VR6 is quite low tax. If it were near £500 then I certainly wouldn't have bought one as the tax compared to value would be too high.
  18. There's a half leather set for sale here which is the best of both worlds.
  19. They look great. Recaros really improve the look and feel inside.

Sounds like this one then: http://shop.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/vwcp/Scirocco-Corrado/Corrado/Abgas-und-Kraftstoffanlage/Mittelschalldaempfer.html (email them and ask if it's the VR6 one though). Sorry to hear you're thinking of selling :(
