I have just weighted one of the caliper and its 5KG. it definately does not have the yellow tint to it all. yeah I have read earlier posts regarding dip galvanising Vs Powder coating and I am swaying towars Galvanising. There is a company that does it near me. I will have a word with them and find out some costings.

Rears are not so good price wise when I enquired about them...They were 160 pound each!!! with exchnage for your old ones. Think I will go the Biggred route for the rears. I know you can go for MK4 calipers... I dont want the extra cost having to get separate brake lines etc as I am going to get some goodrich stainless brake lines kit

Had originally purchased a pair of front VR calipers from here for sending to Biggred to get them refurbished. Then found VW dealer did a pretty good price on old exchanged calipers and they even gave me a 10 percent discount and with them being local to me there was non of that extra postage charge had I gone the Biggred route. I also found out that if you didn’t have the old caliper for exchange there and then they will still be willing to accept your old caliper within a month but you had to pay an extra 20 pounds per caliper. This was returnable to you when you bring your old ones in Thought I’d take a picture of them whilst they are nice and shinny as a reminder before they go on the car. It even came supplied free with 4 new carrier bolts which was a result! and each calipers in their own VW logo "goody" bag??!! Nice touch !!! So all in these callipers were 61 pounds each. (that’s with my 10 percent discount and for taking in my old calipers) Now…do I need to give the caliper surface an extra lick of transparent coating of some sort to keep them staying shinny????

Its been a long while since I last updated my members thread. Today Ive been busy dismantling the front end. Here is a pic of the work in progress so far...My plan is to get the dismantled parts sand blasted/powder coated and painted. It all started with taking the bumper off...then while I have that off I might as well take the cross member off and it all spiralled out of control :) Looks like I am going to need loads of new bolts and screws as the ones I have taken off are rusted and dont fancy reusing them again. Iam Still undecided if I am going to change the radiator...It doesnt look too bad but since I have everything off it may make sense to change it at this point.

I had notice there was a pipe there but didnt know it was the power steering pipe as it was getting dark didnt get the chance to follow the pipe to see whee it was going to...I have supported the engine before I even removed the 4 bolts and its still supported.

Tell me about it...I purchased a recent VAG aerasol wax for 13 pounds...I am saving that for behind the fuel filler cap area :) the tool station one is only 3 pounds a can.

Great front end pictures just what I need for reference :) Iam in the process of tidying up the front end myself. I have managed to take off the front bumper by unbolting the 4x bolts (these were well tight!!!!) If I take out the remaining smaller bolts I take it the cross member will just come off. Think I will prob up my radiator like what you have done when I take out the radiator support without having to drain and waste the good coolant thats still in there :)

Has anyone got any experience in using the protection wax from toolstation. is it any good ??? http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Automotive/Lubricants+Sprays/Protection+Wax+400ml/d60/sd2795/p41925

Yeah you can really see the difference from the pics...did you get the lens from the dealers...I recently totally cleaned my headlight unit and the lens is letting it down...looks "blurry" in mine caused by millions of tiny stone chips.

Saw this...thought it may be useful for anyone due an MOT soon. I Think its a bit of a bargain not sure if it can be bettered. KWIK-FIT is offering MOT for £29.00 on online bookings using voucher code MOSU-KWIK-SMOT offer valid until 16th April but must be booked by 16th March more details at the link below http://www.moneysupermarket.com/vouchers/deals/mot-only-29-or-25-off-combined-mot-service/75948/

Maybe the 2 closed slat was destined for VR6 in colder climates so the oil can get up to temperature faster ???? U seen ice road truckers on TV they have their huge lorry grills partially sealed. Just a thought :)
-
I noticed that on your sig you have a vr6 storm. On the storm model the grill have 2 closed slats which could make the engine run a bit hot unlike normal vr6 where all the the 3 slats are open. Maybe trying a grill with more "open" slat will help with the cooling side of things in the future. From other threads I ve read it will reduce the temp by a few degrees.

the second generation have 177bhp and peak power comes in at 1750rpm if you can strech it go for the M sport package...Nicer bodykit and better handling upgrades. 17inch wheels that comes with the M pack is fine I think anything more will give it a harsh ride. Tyres are expensive to replace as they are runflats. I think the 5 door 1 series m sport looks miles better than a 3 door version. On twisty roads they are awesome in my opinion.

That looks like the control module for the shrick manifold... have a look at the link below showing a pictures of it http://gti-vr6.net/library/engine/Schrick_howto/Schrick.htm

Received mine today...been a long time coming but very pleased with it. -
I would keep the valver...OK it may not be as fast as the VR but it has all the essential handling side sorted out and bodywork looks pretty mint from your previous posts. So it should be pretty much trouble free motoring.
