  1. I think strategic deactivation of the car through pulling of an important relay is a great way forward!
  2. Jack Daniels / Makers Mark / Wild Turkey & Coke for me.. Increasingly getting into my beers / ales.. not hateful lagers but proper British / German real beers :)
  3. Welcome aboard :) Some interesting motors you've got there!
  4. It is funny how you can spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds on boring maintenance items where you don't notice a single change in the way the car drives or goes.. but you can spent a bit of time adjusting stuff like this and it makes a world of difference! :)
  5. Filter was changed in the time I owned it possibly more than once. So unless something has got sucked into it, you can rule that out.
  6. Hope you get it working soon mate. I know I've said it before but it honestly gave me over 5 years trouble free motoring. I don't think the extended spell of being left / stood between me deciding to part with it and cheesy stripping some of the good bits helped sadly. Good luck!
  7. Yeah - nothing puts me off more than a whiff of desperation! Well, when it comes to cars at least.. ;)
  8. Bendy screwdriver is the way! I spent about 2 hours lying in the footwell.. finally bent the screwdriver into the right position and then the screws came out no trouble. Someone on here advised a pillow on the pedals and remove the drivers seat - will give you a bit of comfort whilst you sit there shouting at it!
  9. Saw that other place up the road - had loads of alloy wheels stacked up in the street to lure you in?
  10. Dropped Andy's wheels off yesterday (and enjoyed queueing for about 45 minutes each way in horrible traffic!) and they did seem to have a LOT of wheels lined up to get done. No wonder with those prices. Might well get the Storm wheels redone though if they do a good job.. those prices are a steal!
  11. Suits me! I'm sure Eric will be ok with this.
  12. Did you keep the springs then? These were a good setup on the 16V.. seemed to give a pretty decent ride quality and the car handled well too.. nice dampers :)
  13. Plenty of 0% deals for 15 months plus on credit cards out there!
  14. First thing ideally - I've had the pleasure of going there later in the morning / early afternoon before and the traffic was appalling - I think I was queuing for roughly one and a half hours to get in :( I was in such a bad mood after that, I paid to get in, stomped around for 15 minutes and left again!!
  15. Wendy.. yeah, may well come along to this. Will have to take my Octavia now though as my mileage limit is hit on the Corrado so going to have to SORN it for a short while (few months). At least my daily driver is a VAG group car now though :) Be more than happy to help clean your car - and get lunch in exchange Makes sense to drive down to yours before setting off as you're on the way to the show.
  16. Was going to suggest something as simple as a cushion or two... Hope you can work out a solution Karl!
  17. Hmm.. it could be the immobiliser. There's no harm in following the procedure to sort it. If you search (or possibly use Google and narrow down to the Corrado Forum by searching with something like this into the search box 'site:the-corrado.net vr6 immobiliser') there should be a quick 5 minute guide to cleaning the contacts for the immobiliser - might help you out!
  18. That doesn't sound like the classic immobiliser problem to me.. when that occurs, the engine will start and run normally for about 1-2 seconds and then just cut out. If you say you're able to start the car and keep it running provided you give it some gas, then I'd say that's something else. Might be worth getting it VAG-COM'd initially?
  19. If you're driving an Aston and you give the thumbs up to someone in an old VW, they'll probably think you're taking the **** - I know I'd feel the same way, even though that's not your intentions at all! You'll still always be welcome to come to Corrado meets of course, but I'd imagine you'd have people queuing round the block to try and ask you for a passenger ride! :)
  20. Blimey - well that really is some step up. When you said you were selling the Corrado I thought to myself "He must have to be getting something special to replace it!" - that pretty much answers that question. Looks stunning mate.. I hope you enjoy every mile you do in it :) Congratulations.
  21. No coincidence then that there's no Top Gear this summer, so will only be on in Autumn / Winter again... I guess they've just ran out of content to do two series a year!
  22. You're in Kettering.. can only reccommend the parts guys at Listers in Coventry (would be about a 45 minute drive for you I guess). Have been going there for years now and both Heath and Ian are more than happy to put through any laundry list of nuts and bolts for enthusiasts like us... worth the drive if your local dealers are lazy feckers!
  23. Obviously I have been following this story with Eric and I must say I was the first to say that he was making a critical mistake leaving his car in the hands of a VW dealer, especially for a job as tricky as the heater matrix. All I can do now is eat my words because it looks like I was very wrong. Fair play to Listers for proving a cynic like me wrong! And so pleased they looked after your pride and joy! ---------- Post added at 9:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 9:07 PM ---------- His is a US car.. so the same recalls will not necessarily apply!
  24. I get equally annoyed at the idiots who fall for this, but more so at the chancers who try and make money off the gullible. He can barely string a sentence together, clearly just found the part in a breakers by chance and now makes out like he's doing the entire VW scene a favour. It makes me f@cking laugh.
