So after a rather slower trip home than the one that got you there, did you have any thoughts on plans on what to do mate? -

Took a few pics today - will hopefully share them later :) Thanks for a fun day out and thought it was really well attended. Good to catch up with so many folks! -
Fantastic :) Welcome to Corrado ownership! Look forward to seeing a few pictures :)

Still seem to be available out and about. https://www.mecatechnic.com/en-GB/center-cap-58-mm-vw_C208633.htm Just need to detail the VW logo in silver yourself (as someone has done on those ones - the originals always were just black plastic).

It really is a fantastic event. Almost the entire city centre is taken over and of course a good couple of junctions of the ring road for the racing circuit. I believe it will be even bigger this year, so really can't wait. Of course the beauty of it being in the middle of the town is you're not beholden to pay show prices for food and drink either - all the normal sorts of outlets are there for you to pick up a reasonably priced lunch, etc :) -

Shame, Darren - maybe next year? :) -
Folks.. Another great little event we're struggling to drum up any interest for and wondered if we could get any interest here? This event had it's debut last year and I think it's fair to say it surprised all of us who went. Coventry city centre becomes one great big car show, with a large portion of the ring road closed off for racing cars, classic cars, drift cars to thrash around, and the main centre a big static display for all sorts of cars - mostly retro and modern classics. The crowds were astonishing - I think half the city turned out for the day. We had a good club stand with about 7-8 cars I think and towards the end of the day, we were all invited out onto a parade lap on the closed section of ring road where I think it's fair to say we all got to give our Corrado's a bit of a work out :) I've had the pleasure of hitting comparable speeds on the ring road once before in my youth, but shortly afterwards had to have a conversation with the police... so to be able to do it again, and be encouraged to do so, was a real blast :) It's a really unusual, but really enjoyable event located dead central in the middle of England - and well worth a day out. A number of us "locals" will be going so happy to meet up outside of the city and guide you in via the prescribed route, so you don't have to worry about follow sat navs and closed road diversions! The website, to get a flavour of the event is here: https://coventrymotofest.com/ Cheers.

How do you determine what is reasonable or necessary though - were there any cars in front of them that they needed to pull out / avoid? There's a difference between how much space you actually need as a minimum to go round a car, vs how much you might take if you think there's nothing behind you. You mention they were not actually in reverse gear (no reversing lights) so presumably just in first with the clutch disengaged and rolling back.. that might also constitute not being in full control of the vehicle. So might lend some weight to your argument that there was no reason for them to roll backwards, along with whether there was a car parked (or a lamp-post or other obstruction) in front of them or not. I'd say the insurers probably just want to go 50/50 on it as it's not clear cut and for a relatively low value claim, it's not worth their time to establish what really happened. However I can fully sympathise with your position and wanting to absolve yourself of any responsibility. I'm just trying to look at it completely objectively and with no bias for a fellow Corrado owner / enthusiast :) *edit* Sorry I see in your original post you say there was no reason for them to roll backwards. Hmmm. Leaning towards it being their fault now :)

Correct size on the car should be 195/50/15 - worth checking to make sure someone hasn't fitted a lower side profile tyre? Price wise, you're looking at least another 30-40% per tyre. So 195's might be 40-50 quid, and 205's of the same model would probably into the 70-80 quid sort of ballpark - I think only because 195 is still a relatively common size whereas the 205's aren't so much.
-
There are two aspects to this - the exterior facelift (bump bonnet, slightly wider wings) and changes underneath for the VR - I think what's referred to as 'plus axle'. The later 4 cylinder motors got the exterior facelift treatment but I believe the running gear (hubs, etc) remained the same as before. The plus axle stuff was only fitted to the VR6 to correspond with the bigger motor. In terms of what tyres to run - I run 195's on my VR (90% for cost / availability reasons, 10% because I think they look less 'balloon' like) so I don't see why putting 205's on a 16v would cause any real issues. But not sure why you would given they're a fair bit more expensive! :)

I'm happy to drive to yours and drive one or the other up for you ;) -
I hate to say it but I'm almost leaning more towards agreeing with the insurers on this one. Certainly the person in the Corsa should have been looking more closely no doubt about it, but given that the car was parked where it was - and the nose of your car is quite low (Monaro?) at the front so below their rear window line, they would probably have not seen you if looking out of the rear view mirror and their right side mirror (and no reason why they would check their nearside mirror really - I wouldn't have). Either way hope you get a speedy and positive conclusion whatever the outcome - never nice to have your pride and joy bashed up and to be out of pocket too :(

Welcome to the forum. Jesus - not sure but that sounds horrible! Not sure if that's either a completely dead tappet / lifter or the dreaded timing chains. Either way I'd be getting it checked out as a matter of urgency. Doesn't sound like it's running properly either, with a bit of a misfire.

I'll have to take the Fiesta. Mind, that has enough power to crush a normal VR6 so not all bad ;) -
Threads merged.

It's weird how it works but essentially ensure the long flat part at the top is facing towards the rear, and then you just have to slide it over the handbrake lever. It looks like it won't go, but the plastic will stretch accordingly.

Heater matrix? *edit* Hm no they don't look anything like the heater matrix pipes :)

Much as I love my VR6 .. Tesla Model S P85D test drive.

Indeed. And many of these cheaper electric cars pretty much force you into paying a battery 'subscription' which means as soon as your battery loses capacity or suffers some other kind of ill health, it's replaced. I still think an electric car with a range of ~100 miles is perfectly adequate for a large number of people. Especially when plenty of places these days (like shopping centres, city centres, supermarkets, etc) have charging points - so the car can be charging whilst you're between errands, or at work or whatever. -
I think that's pretty normal behaviour for the VR though be good to hear some other opinions on that. Always found my stage 1 would come in intermittently after some driving then stopping for anything more than a couple of minutes.
-
I'd agree with this. If the engine is standard, or relatively standard, and you don't drive it like a hooligan, just ensure that your cooling system is in good health and working correctly - there should be no need for an uprated oil cooler really. Also heard comments from some folks who do have oil coolers finding that they're almost too effective in very cool weather, with the oil struggling to get to a good operating temperature! So that's also worth taking into consideration if you use your car all times of year.

I am extremely envious :) Been a close follower of Tesla for quite a few years now and long lusted after the Model S in it's various incarnations over the last couple of years. Never managed to yet blag a passenger ride (or better drive!) of one :( I did however get to go out in a Tesla Roadster a couple of years ago and yeah - it blew my mind. The performance was staggering. Same thing with the traction control too in the one I went out in - even though the road was damp, it still gripped and launched like it was fired out of a cannon. I'm totally sold on electric to be honest. Infrastructure is progressing nicely, battery tech is improving all the time... I will have an electric car eventually! -
I'd love it. But not at $50,000.
-
Yep - there is an in-line fuel filter under the car. Could very well be a blocked, mummified piece of crap under there if it's never been touched so I'd be looking there next :)
